Short answer: choose an electric scooter in Nepal by matching its verified variant to your route, hills, passenger load, parking and charging access—not by headline range or ex-showroom price. Obtain a dated, written on-road quote, confirm registration and licence requirements, and read the exact battery, vehicle and service warranties before paying.
A Nepal AutoMart buyer guide published 30 September 2026 lists six selected scooters at NPR 2.3 lakh to NPR 4.2 lakh ex-showroom. Registration, road tax and insurance are extra, and prices, specifications and availability can change. Treat the figures below as a starting point for questions to ask an authorised seller, not as a guaranteed offer.

What should a Nepal buyer check before choosing an electric scooter?
Start with the journey you actually ride. Write down your one-way distance, steepest sections, typical speed, number of passengers, luggage, road surface and where the scooter will be parked overnight. Then check whether you can charge at that location every day. A scooter with a large claimed range is a poor purchase if its workshop is far away or its battery cannot be charged where you live.

Use this order when comparing models:
- Exact variant: identify the battery capacity, motor output, equipment and model year on the quotation. Trim names and specifications can differ between markets.
- Route suitability: ask for expected performance on hills with your normal passenger and load, not only a flat-road top-speed claim.
- Range evidence: record the test cycle behind the number and plan a reserve for traffic, gradients, weather and battery ageing.
- Charging: verify socket type, charging time, cable length, parking permission and any compatible public chargers.
- Support: confirm a nearby workshop, parts stock, diagnostic capability and realistic booking time for the exact powertrain.
- Full cost: compare written on-road totals, finance charges if applicable, insurance and likely consumables rather than ex-showroom prices alone.

Which electric scooters are listed in Nepal’s 2026 buyer snapshot?
The following figures come from Nepal AutoMart’s guide and are variant-specific listings. “Lakh” means 100,000 Nepalese rupees. The guide says specifications can vary, so have the dealer write the exact battery and equipment on your quotation.

Every price in this table is an ex-showroom figure from that dated guide. It excludes registration, road tax and insurance. Ask for the battery chemistry, charge time, warranty mileage and years, ground clearance, suspension specification and kerb weight for the exact Nepal-delivered scooter; those details were not consistently established in the listing.
How should I interpret an electric scooter’s claimed range?
A certified number is a laboratory or standardised-cycle result, not a promise for your route. Ather says its declared certified range uses ARAI IDC conditions and that actual performance varies with riding conditions and patterns. Nepal AutoMart similarly identifies roads, load, speed and weather as major influences and warns that different test cycles are not directly comparable.

Put the cycle in your notes beside the range. The 159 km ARAI figure listed for the Ather Energy Rizta Top and the 100 km IDC figure listed for the TVS iQube Standard should not be ranked as though they were measured identically. The 220 km figure shown for the Yadea GT 70 has no test cycle recorded in the guide, so it needs especially careful verification.
Build a practical reserve
Measure your longest normal day, including the return trip and an unplanned detour. Hills, stop-and-go traffic, a second rider, cold or wet weather and tyre pressure can all reduce usable distance. Battery capacity also declines with age. Select a model that completes the route without relying on the final few percentage points, and ask the seller how the dashboard range estimate is calculated.
Request a route-relevant demonstration
During a test ride, use the road grade and load you normally face if the dealer permits it. Observe acceleration uphill with a passenger, braking on uneven surfaces, suspension clearance and whether the battery percentage falls faster than expected. A short flat-road ride cannot establish long-term range or reliability, so keep the written specifications and warranty as the basis of your decision.

What is the real price after buying an electric scooter?
The guide’s NPR 2.3–4.2 lakh range is not an on-road total. Nepal’s Vehicle and Transport Management Act says a vehicle bought or imported into Nepal must be registered within 15 days of purchase or customs clearance and may not be operated without registration. Confirm the current process and fees with the transport office responsible for your province.
Get a dated, itemised quotation
- Ex-showroom price for the exact model, battery and trim.
- Registration charges and any current road tax.
- Insurance premium and coverage limits.
- Charger, accessories, delivery or documentation fees.
- Any financing, processing or early-settlement charges.
Current model-by-model provincial fees were not established in the available official material. Do not accept a verbal “on-road” figure; ask the dealer to show each charge and its validity date. If two sellers quote different totals, ask whether they are including the same insurance and registration items.
Compare ownership costs carefully
An electric scooter can avoid petrol purchases and some engine maintenance, but the comparison depends on your electricity tariff, annual distance, charging losses, insurance, tyres, brakes, software or diagnostic work and eventual battery replacement. Request the battery warranty terms and any paid service schedule. Do not claim a universal payback period without your own kilometres, electricity rate and quote.
No current Nepal-wide electric-scooter subsidy or model-specific incentive was verified in the available official sources. Check the relevant provincial and local authorities before treating a rebate as part of your budget.
What licence, registration and helmet rules apply?
The Department of Transport Management portal lists age 16 for two-wheeler licence categories A/K. Confirm that the category matches the exact vehicle you intend to register; do not assume that a low-speed label removes ordinary requirements. Nepal’s registration law requires registration before operation, with the 15-day period described above.

Ather’s manufacturer FAQ states: “Therefore, yes, a valid drivers’ license, registration & helmet are absolutely mandatory for riding an Ather Electric Scooter.” That is the manufacturer’s statement about its own scooter. Use the current Department of Transport Management requirements and your provincial transport office for the broader legal position, including the category, documents, fees and testing process.

Wear a correctly fitting helmet that meets applicable local requirements on every ride. Carry the registration and licence documents required for your vehicle, and ask the dealer to identify any additional equipment required at delivery.
How do I set up charging at home or work?
Charging convenience can determine whether an electric scooter is practical. Before purchase, obtain permission to park and plug in, identify the nearest safe socket, and check whether the cable can reach without crossing a walkway or wet area.
Confirm the supplied charger and socket
Ather says its portable charger works with a 5-amp socket. That statement applies to its charger; it does not prove compatibility for another brand. Ask the seller whether the supplied unit needs a dedicated circuit, earthing, surge protection or a particular socket rating. Have an electrician inspect an old, loose or overloaded outlet rather than using an improvised extension.
Calculate time, not just battery size
Obtain the charge time from the battery percentage you normally use, not only a claimed zero-to-100 figure. Ask whether charging slows near full, whether the charger is carried on the scooter and what happens if the charger fails. If you rely on workplace charging, confirm opening hours and whether several riders share the outlet.
Check public charging independently
Ather describes a fast-charging grid and says its FAQ offered free use “till 2026,” while also claiming up to 15 km of range per 10 minutes under its conditions. Because that date and fee terms can change, verify the current fee schedule and station status before relying on it. A network offered by one manufacturer is not proof of compatibility or convenient coverage for another scooter. Ask for the connector, payment method, operating hours and backup plan for your city.
How important are service, spare parts and warranty?
The nearest authorised workshop is part of the product. Nepal AutoMart recommends confirming that the workshop supports the exact model and powertrain, then asking about parts availability and booking time. Brand-level network counts do not guarantee that a particular variant can be repaired at every listed location.

Questions to put in writing
- Which workshop will handle scheduled service for my registration address?
- Are battery diagnostics, controller work and firmware updates available there?
- Which wear items are stocked locally, and what is the usual order time?
- What roadside, towing or immobilised-scooter assistance is included?
- Does moving to another province affect warranty support?
Read separate terms for the vehicle, battery, charger and accessories. Note exclusions for water ingress, accident damage, unauthorised repairs, storage, charging equipment and commercial use. Keep invoices and service records because a missing record can complicate a warranty claim.
Example of a battery plan
Ather’s Nepal FAQ says its Eight70 plan covers the battery for eight years or 80,000 km, whichever comes first, and provides free replacement if battery health falls below 70%. Those are manufacturer- and plan-specific statements. Before signing, confirm that the plan applies to the exact scooter and sale, how health is measured, what exclusions apply and whether the promise transfers to a second owner.

Ather says its battery is IP67 rated and water resistant. An IP rating for that product is not a blanket monsoon-safety rating for every electric scooter, nor a promise that immersion, water ingress or charging in wet conditions is covered. Read the exact manual before riding through standing water, and never connect a wet or damaged charger.
For Nepal’s varied roads, inspect ground clearance, suspension travel, tyre size and braking hardware. Ask the dealer how the underside, battery enclosure and connectors are protected. Slow down on gravel, potholes and flooded sections, keep both tyres correctly inflated and stop if warning lights, unusual heat, smell or loss of power appears. Have a qualified technician inspect impact or water damage before charging again.
What is a disciplined buying process?
- Map the route: record distance, gradients, traffic, passengers and parking for a typical week.
- Shortlist two or three exact variants: include one with comfortable range reserve and one with the charging method you can reliably use.
- Verify specifications: obtain battery size, test cycle, charge time, kerb weight, ground clearance and warranty in writing.
- Ride the route conditions: test hills, braking, suspension and passenger performance where permitted.
- Inspect support: visit or call the workshop that will serve your address; ask about parts and booking times.
- Confirm legality: check the A/K licence category, age requirement, registration process and helmet obligations with the transport office.
- Price the complete purchase: collect an itemised, dated on-road quote including registration, road tax and insurance.
- Review the contract: check battery-health definitions, mileage limits, exclusions, delivery condition and refund terms before paying a deposit.
- Plan the first month: arrange safe charging, save emergency contacts and retain every invoice, certificate and warranty document.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Choosing the biggest range number
Fix: compare test cycles and use a route reserve. An unrecorded cycle, such as the one attached to the listed Yadea GT 70 claim, cannot be compared directly with IDC or ARAI.

Assuming every charger or network works
Fix: match connector, socket, power and payment details to the exact scooter, and maintain a home-charging fallback.
Ignoring the second rider and hills
Fix: test or question uphill acceleration, braking and battery use with your normal load.
Relying on a brand-level workshop count
Fix: identify the actual workshop for your address and ask which parts and diagnostics are available for your variant.
Assuming water resistance covers flooding
Fix: follow the manual, avoid immersion and obtain a written warranty interpretation for water-related damage.
Bottom line for Nepal buyers
The best electric scooter is the one that completes your real route with reserve, can be charged safely where you park, and has a reachable workshop with written battery and vehicle support. Use the 2026 market snapshot to create a shortlist, then verify the exact variant, legal paperwork, current on-road price and service terms with the dealer and transport office before purchase.
