The rollout was scheduled to begin in September 2026 and unfold in phases over 24 months, but the announcement does not establish that the trucks have been delivered or entered service. Amazon is a customer the fleet is expected to serve—not the announced purchaser of all 500 trucks.
Who announced the 500-truck plan?
Einride announced the plan on August 18, 2026, describing it as an order and planned deployment on its Saga AI fleet-intelligence platform. The company said the trucks would expand its electric freight network across California, Texas, New Jersey, Illinois, and Georgia, serving Amazon and other key customers. Einride’s announcement is the source for the order, customer and rollout details.
The announcement does not say that Amazon bought the trucks. Einride’s stated model is to coordinate freight capacity and electric trucks for shippers through Saga AI, so customers can use the service without taking on the fleet’s capital investment or management themselves. That is Einride’s description of its offering, not independent confirmation of customer savings or operating performance.
When are the Tesla Semis expected to arrive?
Einride said deployment would begin in September 2026 and proceed in multiple phases over 24 months. It also said the arrangement was fully financed through third-party financing solutions. The release does not give a unit-by-unit delivery calendar or disclose a purchase price.

As of October 7, 2026, the available announcements establish the plan and its intended start date, but not how many of the 500 trucks had been delivered or entered service. Tesla’s Q2 2026 shareholder update said the Semi remained on schedule for production to start in 2026; that is a production schedule statement, not confirmation that Einride’s fleet was fulfilled. Tesla’s Q2 2026 shareholder update provides that schedule context.
What Tesla says the Semi can do
Tesla’s U.S. Semi product page lists an estimated range of up to 500 miles, estimated energy consumption of 1.7 kWh per mile, and charging capability of 1.2 MW. Tesla also says deliveries start in 2026 and markets the truck as a Class 8 vehicle with access to a Megacharger network. These are manufacturer-published estimates and product claims, not measured results from Einride’s routes. Tesla Semi specifications

Tesla also claims lower ownership costs than a comparable diesel truck, citing electricity costs and reduced maintenance needs. Tesla Semi Director Dan Priestley said in Einride’s announcement: “EV heavy trucks provide lower costs per mile from fuel savings, reduced maintenance, and better uptime over diesel trucks.” He added: “These savings increase further through operational efficiency when deploying EV trucks at scale.” These statements express Tesla’s position; the announcement does not provide independently measured total-cost results for Einride’s planned fleet.
What will determine whether a large electric-truck rollout works?
Specifications alone do not establish whether the trucks will fit each freight lane or compete economically with diesel. The outcome will depend on how the fleet, charging and freight schedules work together. Relevant measures include:

It also reported that Saga AI had powered more than 19 million electric miles and 42,000 optimization sessions globally, drawing on seven years of commercial operations. Those are company-reported platform figures from the 2026 announcement, not independent measures of the planned Tesla fleet’s performance.
How the plan compares with other Tesla Semi deployments
Other announced fleet activity offers context, but it should not be confused with Einride’s 500-truck plan.

The deal signals a large planned deployment supported by third-party financing and a fleet-management platform. It does not establish that all 500 trucks have been built, delivered, or put to work; that Amazon purchased them; or that the fleet has achieved a particular cost, emissions, or reliability result. Einride’s announcement includes forward-looking statements, so its planned schedule and expected benefits should be read as plans rather than guarantees.
