In the 1997 U.S. Honda CR-V, the “hidden table” is the removable cargo-area floor itself—not a separate table stowed in the vehicle. Lift the carpet and pull the handle to remove it; folding legs underneath turn it into a picnic table.
Where is the picnic table in an early Honda CR-V?
Honda’s 1997 CR-V Owner’s Manual labels the feature “Built-in Table” and says, “The cargo area floor can be taken out and used as a table.” To find it, lift the carpet covering the cargo floor and look for the handle. Lift and pull the handle to slide the floor out.
How to set it up and put it back
- Lift the cargo-area carpet and pull up the handle to remove the floor panel.
- Unfold the legs underneath. Push the middle of each leg’s locking arms until they lock; Honda says all four legs must be locked before use.
- To return the panel to the cargo-floor position, align its projections with the holes in the cargo-area floor.
What is underneath the table?
Honda later described the removable folding table as covering a waterproof under-floor bucket for wet or dirty gear. Honda Australia’s retrospective on the original CR-V also notes that the cargo floor could double as a picnic table—and that owners had to bring their own chairs. These descriptions explain the design, but do not establish that every early CR-V in every market had it.
Weight limit and safety warnings
Honda’s 1997 manual sets a maximum load of 20 kg (44 lb). It also warns not to stand on the table and not to place hot pots, pans or kettles directly on it. Use it as a light-duty surface only after locking all four legs.

Which early CR-Vs came with the table?
The 1997 U.S. owner’s manual documents the feature, and Honda’s later material describes the design. Those sources do not establish a complete year, trim or market fitment list, so it would be too broad to say that all early CR-Vs had the table. If yours is missing one, confirm the exact model year and body style before buying a replacement; compatibility details are not established here.
