For most buyers, the Dzire ZXi is worth considering for its lighting, alloy wheels and extra convenience equipment—not for a safety advantage. The current India-market brochure lists six airbags, ESP, hill-hold assist, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors and ISOFIX anchorages on both LXi MT and ZXi. The sensible comparison is therefore between the ZXi additions and the price premium in your city, using the same fuel type and transmission.
Do not compare an unspecified “ZXi” with an LXi quote. ZXi is listed as petrol manual, petrol AMT and S-CNG manual, while LXi is listed as petrol manual. What the Dzire LXi and ZXi labels actually mean
“LXi” and “ZXi” are trim levels, but each trim is tied to particular powertrain configurations. In the current-generation Dzire brochure, LXi is shown as a petrol manual-transmission variant. ZXi is shown with the petrol manual and petrol AMT, and the brochure also lists a ZXi MT version for S-CNG. That means a price or feature comparison is meaningful only when fuel and transmission are named.

Both trims belong to the current Dzire generation described in Maruti Suzuki’s brochure as a five-seat sedan using the 1.2-litre Z12E petrol engine. Older Dzire generations used different trim matrices, so photographs or old comparison pages are not reliable evidence of current fitment.

Safety: LXi and ZXi share the important basics
The brochure’s variant matrix lists the following safety equipment for both LXi MT and ZXi:
- Six airbags
- Electronic stability program (ESP)
- Hill-hold assist
- Anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD)
- Reverse parking sensors
- ISOFIX child-seat anchorages
As a result, moving from LXi to ZXi does not buy a different published safety package in these key areas. A buyer choosing LXi is not giving up the listed six-airbag, ESP or hill-hold equipment simply because it is the entry trim.
How to interpret the Bharat NCAP result
Maruti Suzuki announced in June 2025 that the All-New Dzire received a five-star Bharat NCAP rating. This is a model-level result announced by the manufacturer; it should not be presented as a separate crash rating for ZXi versus LXi. No source establishes that the trim level changes the tested rating. The practical takeaway is to verify the safety equipment on the exact car you are buying, while treating the five-star result as applying to the tested Dzire model configuration rather than as a reason to assume every trim has identical optional equipment.

What ZXi adds outside the safety package
The clearest documented difference is visible equipment. The brochure lists painted R15 alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, LED Crystal Vision headlamps, projector headlamps and LED fog lamps for ZXi. LXi is listed with R14 steel wheels and does not list those lighting items.

These are equipment and appearance upgrades, not evidence of a different engine, body shell or crash structure. If your priority is the lowest purchase price while retaining the brochure-listed safety basics, LXi covers the essential brief. If factory-fitted lighting and alloy wheels matter every day, ZXi provides those items without relying on accessories.
Cabin and convenience equipment: check the exact matrix
ZXi also adds cabin and convenience equipment beyond the exterior changes, but the available evidence requires a careful approach. Maruti Suzuki’s brochure contains a complete trim matrix for audio, infotainment and controls; use that matrix for the exact petrol MT, petrol AMT or S-CNG MT configuration. Do not assume that every feature shown in launch advertising for the Dzire range is standard on ZXi.
Why range-level advertising can mislead
The launch release describes range features including a sunroof, 360-degree camera, Suzuki Connect and infotainment. Those are range-level statements. The release does not establish that each item is standard on LXi or ZXi. Some features belong to ZXi+ or are available only on other variants. A salesperson’s verbal summary, a social-media image or a brochure page for the top trim should not be used to promise equipment on ZXi.

A practical equipment verification method
- Write down the complete variant name, including fuel and transmission—for example, petrol MT ZXi or S-CNG MT ZXi.
- Ask the dealer to show the current official feature matrix for that configuration, not a generic Dzire page.
- Tick each desired item—audio system, screen, steering controls, camera, connectivity and charging hardware—against the matrix.
- Inspect the display car or delivered vehicle and match the physical equipment with the written list.
- Have any promised accessory or factory feature written on the quotation before you pay.
This process matters because Maruti Suzuki states that variants and equipment can change. A current brochure and a dated quotation provide stronger evidence than an old review.

Engine, transmission and fuel economy
The current Dzire uses Maruti Suzuki’s 1.2-litre Z-Series Z12E petrol engine. The brochure identifies the same engine family across the range, but the transmission choice differs by trim: LXi is listed as manual, whereas ZXi can be ordered with a manual or automated manual transmission (AMT), and with S-CNG in the listed manual configuration.

The 24.79 km/l and 33.73 km/kg numbers are claimed test-cycle figures supplied by the manufacturer. Traffic, temperature, tyre pressure, passenger load, air-conditioning use and driving style can produce lower results. Do not use the petrol figure to estimate S-CNG running cost or compare an AMT quote without checking the AMT’s own certified figure.
Choosing between manual, AMT and S-CNG
- Petrol MT: the direct LXi-versus-ZXi comparison. It has the broadest trim overlap and is easiest to compare on an equal basis.
- Petrol AMT: listed for ZXi and relevant if frequent stop-start traffic makes clutch operation undesirable. It cannot be compared with LXi as an identical configuration because LXi is listed as manual.
- S-CNG MT: listed for ZXi MT. Evaluate local CNG availability, queue times, boot-space implications and the dealer’s current price separately; none of those figures is established by the supplied evidence.
Price: why there is no universal LXi-to-ZXi gap
Maruti Suzuki’s Bareilly product page showed the Dzire LXi MT starting at ₹6,30,600 ex-showroom in the listing retrieved in 2026. That is a city-specific, dynamic listing—not a national current price and not a quote for ZXi. The manufacturer says that prices and schemes prevailing at the time of invoicing or billing apply, and its online terms describe displayed prices as indicative and subject to change.

How to obtain a meaningful price comparison
- Select the same city for both variants on the current Maruti Suzuki price page.
- Compare petrol MT LXi with petrol MT ZXi first; do not mix a manual with AMT or S-CNG.
- Save the date and ask for an itemised ex-showroom and on-road quotation.
- Separate mandatory statutory charges from optional accessories and dealer-added items.
- Ask whether any scheme is conditional on finance, exchange, corporate eligibility or a limited billing period.

- You want painted R15 alloy wheels rather than R14 steel wheels.
- You need the ZXi transmission or fuel configuration, such as petrol AMT or the listed S-CNG MT; LXi does not provide those configurations in the brochure.
- The exact ZXi cabin and convenience equipment you want is confirmed in the current matrix and the price premium fits your budget.
- You prefer factory integration and warranty coverage over sourcing equivalent-looking accessories yourself.
When the top trim may be the more relevant comparison
If your must-have list includes a sunroof, 360-degree camera, Suzuki Connect or a particular infotainment function, compare ZXi with the trim that the current matrix assigns those features to—possibly ZXi+—instead of assuming ZXi includes them. The launch release establishes that such features exist somewhere in the range, not that they are standard on the two trims in this comparison.

Lighting and driving conditions
For a buyer who regularly drives unlit roads at night, the ZXi’s listed LED and projector lighting is a tangible factory upgrade. For mostly daytime urban use, the same equipment may be primarily an appearance benefit. Test the actual headlamp pattern at delivery and understand the correct use of fog lamps; more lighting hardware does not justify dazzling other road users.
Wheels, tyres and repair exposure
R15 alloys give ZXi a different appearance from LXi’s R14 steel wheels. Ask for the exact tyre size, replacement price and availability in your area. Steel wheels can be easier to repair after a hard impact, while an alloy wheel may be more expensive to replace; the brochure alone does not establish local repair costs.

Parking and reverse manoeuvres
Reverse parking sensors are listed on both trims, so they are not a ZXi-only reason to upgrade. If a 360-degree camera is essential, verify the trim assignment in writing because the launch material describes it as a range feature rather than an LXi or ZXi guarantee.
Resale expectations
