Neither motorcycle is universally better. The Ducati XDiavel V4 MY25 (US) is the stronger match for a buyer who prioritizes published horsepower, high-rpm performance hardware and advanced electronics. The 2026 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy is the more persuasive choice for someone who values a lower listed price, a substantially lower laden seat and a larger published torque figure delivered at lower rpm. Those are specification-based conclusions, not proof that one bike accelerates faster, handles better or feels more comfortable. A proper decision requires checking the exact US configuration and riding both motorcycles if local test rides are available.
What this comparison actually covers
The model years are different, so this is not a same-year comparison. Ducati identifies the motorcycle on its US product page as the XDiavel V4 MY25, while Harley-Davidson’s current US page identifies the motorcycle as the 2026 Fat Boy. Ducati also warns that equipment and specifications can vary by market. Confirm the model-year label, color, installed equipment and final paperwork with a US dealer before placing a deposit.

The primary specifications and prices below come from the manufacturers’ current US pages: Ducati’s MY25 XDiavel V4 page and Harley-Davidson’s 2026 Fat Boy page. They are published product claims, not independent dyno results or a controlled back-to-back road test. No verified comparative test establishes a winner for acceleration, cornering, ride comfort, reliability or fuel economy.

The numbers are not all measured on the same basis. Ducati’s 505 lb figure is wet weight without fuel, whereas Harley’s 694 lb figure is running order. Ducati gives an unladen seat height; Harley gives a laden seat height. Treat those values as useful fit and specification clues, not as a laboratory-controlled weight or reach comparison.

Price: what you pay before the ride-away number
Ducati’s listed US prices
Ducati lists the XDiavel V4 at $28,995 in Burning Red and $29,295 in Black Lava. The page adds a $1,295 destination charge. Ducati says its displayed prices exclude options, taxes, title, registration, processing and handling, dealer charges and any potential tariffs; the dealer sets the actual selling price. Before taxes and dealer fees, that places the two paint choices at $30,290 and $30,590 once the stated destination charge is added.
Harley-Davidson’s starting figure
Harley-Davidson lists the 2026 Fat Boy as starting at $22,599+. The plus sign matters: it signals that the displayed starting amount is not a guaranteed out-the-door total. Ask for a written worksheet showing freight or destination, setup, documentation, registration, taxes, accessories, financing charges and any market-specific fees.
How large is the published gap?
Using only the displayed starting figures, the Ducati is $6,396 above the Harley in Burning Red and $6,696 above it in Black Lava. Including Ducati’s stated destination charge makes the pre-tax gaps $7,691 and $7,996 respectively. This is a list-price comparison, not a prediction of transaction prices or ownership cost. Dealer discounts, availability, options, insurance and financing can change the real difference.
Engine output and character: read the rpm as carefully as the headline number
Ducati XDiavel V4
The Ducati uses a liquid-cooled 1,158 cc, 90-degree V4 Granturismo. Its US specification page lists 168 hp (124 kW) at 10,750 rpm and 93 lb-ft (126 Nm) at 7,500 rpm. The figures describe a high-revving output peak: maximum horsepower is quoted near 11,000 rpm, and maximum torque is quoted considerably higher in the rev range than the Harley’s torque peak.

2026 Harley-Davidson Fat Boy
The Fat Boy uses a 117 cu in Milwaukee-Eight 117 Custom V-twin. Harley lists 103 hp at 4,800 rpm and 126 ft-lb at 3,000 rpm, with the torque figure identified as tested to the J1349 method on the current US page. The larger torque number arrives at a much lower stated engine speed than the Ducati’s peak.
What those figures do—and do not—tell you
On paper, the Ducati has 65 more published horsepower, while the Harley has 33 more published pound-feet of torque. The different engine sizes, configurations, rpm points and test descriptions mean you should not turn those figures into a guaranteed acceleration result. Gearing, traction, throttle calibration, aerodynamics, rider weight, launch technique and the shape of the torque curve all affect what happens on the road.
The specifications do support a practical buying inference. A rider seeking a large top-end power number and electronics intended to manage changing levels of intervention will find the Ducati’s published package relevant. A rider who prioritizes a high torque number at 3,000 rpm and a traditional large-displacement V-twin layout may find the Harley’s figures more appealing. The engine sound, vibration, clutch effort, heat and low-speed response remain subjective until you ride the specific motorcycle.

Seat height and inseam fit
Ducati quotes a 30.3-inch (770 mm) seat height. Harley quotes a 25.9-inch laden seat height. That is a 4.4-inch difference in the published numbers, but the measurement conditions differ: Ducati does not label the figure as laden in the supplied specification, while Harley does. A shorter rider may find the Harley easier to reach at a stop, yet seat width, suspension sag, boot choice and your preferred one-foot technique also matter.

During a showroom visit, sit in your normal riding boots with both hands on the bars. Check whether you can place the foot you normally use at stop signs securely, whether the bar forces your shoulders forward, and whether the tank or seat edge interferes with your knees. Do this before evaluating paint, accessories or financing.
Weight and low-speed confidence
Ducati’s wet-without-fuel figure is 505 lb; Harley’s running-order figure is 694 lb. Because fuel and measurement conventions are different, the 189-lb difference is directional rather than a controlled direct comparison. Nevertheless, the published values indicate that the Harley is the heavier machine on its stated basis. Ask the dealer to let you walk each bike upright, turn the bars at full lock and reverse it from a parking space. Those exercises reveal more about your confidence than a brochure number alone.
Wheelbase and fuel range considerations
The XDiavel’s wheelbase is 63.8 inches (1,620 mm), and the Fat Boy’s is 65 inches. The Ducati lists a 5.3-US-gallon (20-liter) tank; Harley lists 5 gallons. Tank capacity is not a range guarantee because consumption, speed, traffic, temperature and riding style are not supplied in these specifications. Use the capacities when planning stops, but do not promise a particular mileage.
Standard equipment and electronic assistance
What Ducati emphasizes
- Riding and power modes: allow the bike’s operating character and power delivery to be selected according to the available settings.
- Cornering ABS: the listed system is designed for braking assistance while leaned over; it is not permission to exceed road or tire limits.
- Ducati traction and wheelie control: electronic intervention can help manage wheel slip and front-wheel lift, but neither system removes the need for appropriate throttle control.
- Quick shift: the listed system can reduce clutch use during gear changes. Confirm exactly which shift directions and operating conditions are supported on the motorcycle you are buying.
- Cruise control: useful for sustained-speed riding where legal and safe.
- 6.9-inch TFT and turn-by-turn navigation: give the Ducati a more information-rich cockpit than a basic analog cruiser arrangement.
These items are listed by Ducati for the MY25 US model, but the company’s page says specifications and equipment can vary by market. Have the dealer identify each item on the vehicle identification number’s build sheet.

What Harley-Davidson emphasizes
- Rider Safety Enhancements: the 2026 page highlights Harley’s electronic safety package. Request the current feature list and operating description for the exact US motorcycle rather than assuming every function is identical across markets.
- LED lighting: the page calls out LED lighting as part of the Fat Boy’s equipment presentation.
- Lakester cast-aluminum wheels: these are a prominent design and equipment detail on the current model page.
- Classic Fat Boy presentation: the wide-shouldered styling, bright metal and wheel design are central to the model’s visual identity, but appearance is a personal preference rather than a measurable advantage.
The two equipment lists point in different directions. Ducati’s list is dominated by rider-adjustable controls, display functions and intervention systems. Harley’s list emphasizes safety features, lighting and the Fat Boy’s established visual formula. Neither list, by itself, proves that one motorcycle is more reliable or more enjoyable.
Which bike fits a particular buyer?
| If your priority is… | Specification-based lean | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum published horsepower | XDiavel V4 | 168 hp at 10,750 rpm versus 103 hp at 4,800 rpm |
| A large published torque figure at low rpm | Fat Boy | 126 ft-lb at 3,000 rpm versus 93 lb-ft at 7,500 rpm |
| Lowest listed entry price | Fat Boy | $22,599+ starting price versus Ducati’s $28,995–$29,295 before its destination charge |
| Lower stated seat height | Fat Boy | 25.9 inches laden versus Ducati’s 30.3 inches |
| Rider modes, quick shift, TFT and navigation | XDiavel V4 | Those functions are listed on Ducati’s MY25 US page |
| Traditional V-twin format and Fat Boy styling | Fat Boy | Its 117 cu in Milwaukee-Eight 117 Custom and Lakester wheel treatment match that brief |
| Lowest published weight figure | XDiavel V4, with a qualification | 505 lb wet without fuel versus Harley’s 694 lb running order; the bases are not identical |
Use this table to narrow the choice, not to skip the ride. For example, a tall rider who likes the Ducati’s electronics may accept its higher seat, while a shorter rider may reject the Harley’s lower price if the bike’s mass feels difficult to move in a garage. Those are fit decisions that a specification sheet cannot settle.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Test-ride and showroom checklist
- Verify the identity. Confirm that the Ducati is the MY25 XDiavel V4 and the Harley is the 2026 Fat Boy. Photograph the VIN plate and build sheet if you are comparing dealer inventory.
- Request the out-the-door worksheets. Have each dealer itemize the motorcycle price, destination or freight, setup, documentation, taxes, registration, accessories and financing charges. Do not compare one bike’s advertised starting price with the other bike’s destination-inclusive figure.
- Check your contact points while stationary. Sit in riding gear, reach the controls, turn the bars fully, lift the bike from the side stand and back it up. Pay attention to reach and balance rather than showroom polish.
- Use the same route if possible. Ride each on the same type of streets, including a stop-and-go section, a steady-speed section and a series of legal corners. The purpose is to compare your own confidence, not to create an unofficial race test.
- Try the electronic functions safely. With the motorcycle parked, learn the menu layout, mode selection, cruise-control controls and navigation interface. Do not change settings while moving until you understand the manufacturer’s procedure.
- Record your impressions immediately. Write down clutch feel, heat, mirrors, wind exposure, reach to the foot controls, low-speed balance and whether the engine response suits your habits. Memory tends to favor the last bike ridden.
- Ask about support. Request the local service schedule, parts lead times, roadside assistance, warranty terms and the cost of the first major services. Ducati publishes its intervals; Harley’s applicable terms should be confirmed for your market and dealer.
Maintenance and warranty information available from the pages
Ducati lists a 24-month warranty with unlimited mileage for the XDiavel V4. It specifies oil service at 9,000 miles or 24 months and a valve-clearance check at 37,000 miles. Those intervals help you frame a service conversation, but labor rates, consumables, geographic availability and exclusions still affect ownership cost.

Do not mix the 2025 and 2026 Fat Boy figures
Harley-Davidson’s official US page for the 2025 Fat Boy lists 104 hp at 4,800 rpm, while the current 2026 page lists 103 hp at 4,800 rpm. The 2025 page is available at Harley-Davidson’s 2025 Fat Boy page. Use 104 hp only when discussing the 2025 motorcycle; use 103 hp for the 2026 comparison here. A one-horsepower change is not a reason to infer a major real-world performance difference without independent testing.
Why a specification sheet cannot declare a universal winner
Peak power and torque are single points on an engine test. They do not show the complete torque curve, gearing, throttle mapping or the speed at which either motorcycle reaches a given road speed. Likewise, a seat-height number does not include seat width or suspension compression, and a listed wet weight without fuel is not the same measurement as running order.
Electronics can expand the range of available settings, but their value depends on how intuitive the controls are and whether you want to manage those settings. Styling, sound, vibration and the feeling of an engine’s pulses are inherently personal. The only defensible conclusion from the published material is conditional: choose the Ducati when its power-and-electronics brief is your priority; choose the Harley when its price, lower seat, torque-at-low-rpm specification and classic V-twin presentation better match your use. Test rides and a complete dealer quote should decide between two motorcycles that serve different ideas of a performance cruiser.
