Neither motorcycle is universally better. The Ducati SuperSport 950 is Ducati’s road-sports model, while Kawasaki positions the Z900 as a naked motorcycle. In the published figures available here, the 2025 U.S.-specification Z900 ABS claims more peak power—123 hp at 9,500 rpm versus 110 hp at 9,000 rpm for the SuperSport 950. Both listed seat heights are 31.9 inches. Your better choice depends on whether you want a sport-oriented, faired motorcycle or an exposed, upright naked bike, plus the exact model year, market equipment, service support and price available to you.

What the Ducati SuperSport 950 and Kawasaki Z900 actually are

This is a comparison between two different motorcycle formats, not two trim levels of the same concept. Ducati describes the SuperSport 950 as its “road sports bike.” Kawasaki labels the Z900 a “Naked Motorcycle” on its U.S. model page. Those descriptions establish each manufacturer’s intended positioning: the Ducati uses a sport-bike form with bodywork, while the Kawasaki uses the open layout associated with a naked bike.

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

That distinction should come before the horsepower discussion. A rider who wants a sport-focused cockpit and the visual and aerodynamic purpose of fairing panels may prefer the SuperSport’s concept even if the Kawasaki has the larger published output. A rider who wants a simpler-looking, exposed motorcycle and an upright naked-bike layout may prefer the Z900. The specifications do not measure comfort, wind pressure, steering feel or real-world acceleration, so those should be confirmed with a same-market test ride.

Specification Ducati SuperSport 950 Kawasaki Z900 ABS How to interpret it
Manufacturer positioning Road sports bike Naked motorcycle Different bodywork and riding concepts, not a direct style match
Engine 937 cc Testastretta 11° L-twin 948 cc inline-four in the 2025 U.S. specification Different cylinder layouts and engine character; displacement is close
Claimed peak power 110 hp at 9,000 rpm 123 hp at 9,500 rpm (2025 U.S. specification) The cited Kawasaki figure is 13 hp higher, but both are manufacturer claims rather than independent dyno results
Claimed peak torque 93 Nm at 6,500 rpm 73.1 lb-ft at 7,700 rpm (about 99 Nm after unit conversion) Published in different units and at different engine speeds; do not treat this as a matched torque test
Seat height 31.9 inches 31.9 inches (2025 U.S. specification) Equal stated numbers do not guarantee equal reach or foot placement
Weight figure published in the cited material 205 kg wet without fuel on Ducati’s 2024 India page 467.5 lb (49-state) or 469.7 lb (50-state) curb on Kawasaki’s 2026 U.S. page Wet weight without fuel and curb weight are different measurements and markets

Other electronic equipment cited The 2024 India page describes an inertial platform; this is a different market and year reference ABS, traction control, power modes, cornering management, IMU-enhanced chassis-orientation awareness and electronic cruise control on the 2026 U.S. page Not a like-for-like feature verdict because the Ducati and Kawasaki references are not matched by year and market
Published service interval 9,000 miles or 12 months Not established by the Kawasaki sources cited here Obtain the local maintenance schedule before comparing ownership cost

The Ducati U.S. page used for the engine, output, seat height, quick-shift and service information does not identify a model year. Kawasaki figures come from a 2025 U.S. specification sheet and a 2026 U.S. model page. If you are shopping in another country, treat the table as a starting point and verify the local homologation, equipment and weight label.

Engine layout, displacement and claimed performance

Ducati’s 937 cc L-twin

The SuperSport 950 uses Ducati’s 937 cc Testastretta 11° L-twin. Ducati lists 110 hp at 9,000 rpm and 93 Nm at 6,500 rpm. The two-cylinder layout and the peak-torque speed indicate an engine specification aimed at delivering its strongest published torque below its power peak. That does not tell you how smooth, quick or easy to control the engine feels in traffic; throttle response and gearing vary by calibration and gear, and those qualities require a ride on the exact motorcycle.

The L-twin is part of the SuperSport’s identity. Choose it if the Ducati engine configuration and the road-sports package are central to what you want, rather than selecting solely from the largest horsepower number.

Kawasaki’s 948 cc inline-four

The 2025 U.S. Z900 specification lists a 948 cc inline-four with 123 hp at 9,500 rpm and 73.1 lb-ft at 7,700 rpm. Converting the torque figure gives approximately 99 Nm, but the original Kawasaki value is stated in pound-feet and is measured at a different engine speed from Ducati’s 93 Nm figure. Because the figures come from different documents and units, they should not be treated as a controlled dyno comparison.

On the published peak-power figures alone, the Z900 has the advantage: 123 hp versus 110 hp. That is a specification advantage for riders who prioritize the higher claimed number, not proof that it will be faster in every gear or on every road. Rider weight, gearing, traction, launch technique, road surface and test conditions all affect acceleration, and no matched independent test was established for these two motorcycles.

What the numbers can and cannot answer

  • They can answer: which cited specification claims more peak power, which engine layouts the manufacturers list, and where each manufacturer places its stated peaks.
  • They cannot answer: which motorcycle has better low-speed manners, stronger roll-on acceleration, a more pleasing sound, less vibration, a better gearbox or a faster lap time.
  • They should not be used to: assume the Ducati is slow or the Kawasaki is automatically easier to ride. Those conclusions require comparable gearing information and an independent evaluation.

Riding position, bodywork and the 31.9-inch seat

Both cited manufacturer specifications list a 31.9-inch seat height. That is useful for an initial screen, but it is not a complete fit measurement. Seat width, the shape of the front of the seat, suspension sag, handlebar position, footpeg location, boot sole thickness and your inseam determine how much of your foot reaches the ground. Two motorcycles with the same published height can therefore feel different at a stop.

The more important ergonomic distinction is the body style. Ducati’s “road sports bike” positioning points toward a sport-oriented cockpit and fairing-based design. Kawasaki’s “naked motorcycle” label identifies an open design with the engine and chassis more exposed visually. These descriptions help you choose a starting point, but they do not establish which bike will be more comfortable over a particular distance.

Choose the SuperSport concept when:

  • You specifically want a faired road-sport motorcycle rather than a naked-bike silhouette.
  • Your riding priorities include a sport-bike environment and you are willing to verify the exact reach to the bars and foot controls in person.
  • You value Ducati’s L-twin configuration and the SuperSport nameplate more than the Kawasaki’s higher published peak-power figure.

Choose the Z900 concept when:

  • You prefer the exposed, naked-bike format and do not want a sport-bike bodywork package.
  • You want the cited 123-hp peak-power specification and the broader electronic equipment list shown on Kawasaki’s 2026 U.S. page.
  • You want to evaluate an upright-oriented motorcycle without assuming that an identical seat-height number guarantees identical fit.

Electronics and rider aids: compare the exact year, not the brochure headline

The 2026 U.S. Kawasaki page lists ABS, traction control, selectable power modes, cornering management, a quick shifter, IMU-enhanced awareness of chassis orientation and electronic cruise control. That is a substantial list of named electronic systems for the cited Z900 specification.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Ducati’s U.S. page lists Ducati Quick Shift up/down for the SuperSport 950. A separate 2024 India page describes an inertial platform. Because that Ducati reference is both a different market and a different year reference from the Kawasaki documents, it cannot be used to declare that one motorcycle has a universally superior electronics package. Equipment can change with model year, regional regulations and trim.

Before signing a sales contract, ask the dealer to identify each system on the vehicle identification number or the local specification sheet. Confirm whether ABS, traction control, riding modes, cornering functions, cruise control and the quick shifter are standard, optional or unavailable in your country. Also ask whether the quick shifter works in both directions and under what operating conditions; the product names alone do not establish the exact calibration.

Weight: why the cited figures cannot produce a fair winner

Ducati’s 2024 India page gives a wet weight of 205 kg without fuel. Kawasaki’s 2026 U.S. page gives curb weights of 467.5 lb for the 49-state version and 469.7 lb for the 50-state version. A wet weight that excludes fuel and a curb weight measured under Kawasaki’s definition are not equivalent data points. The sources also represent different markets and model-year references.

For that reason, do not rank the SuperSport and Z900 as lighter or heavier from these figures alone. If mass matters to your decision, request the local certification label or owner’s manual for both motorcycles and confirm whether the stated number includes fuel, fluids, battery and other operating equipment. Then compare like with like.

Maintenance and ownership questions

What is established for the Ducati

The cited Ducati U.S. product page states a service interval of 9,000 miles or 12 months. That is the only maintenance interval established in the supplied specifications. It does not provide a complete cost forecast, labor rate, valve-inspection price or parts total.

What is not established for the Kawasaki

The Kawasaki sources used for this comparison do not establish a matching service interval. Do not assume that the Z900 will cost less to maintain, or that the Ducati will cost more, without obtaining the maintenance schedule and a written estimate from a dealer that supports your market.

Questions to ask before buying either bike

  • What is the exact model year and market specification?
  • Which scheduled services are due by mileage and by time?
  • What are the labor rates and parts prices at the dealer you would actually use?
  • Are software updates, diagnostic checks or electronic-system calibrations included in scheduled service?
  • How far is the authorized service network from your home, and can it support the motorcycle’s electronics?
  • What warranty terms, roadside assistance and parts lead times apply in your country?

These answers matter more to long-term ownership than a generic assumption based on the badge. The supplied information does not establish matched local prices for either motorcycle, so obtain current, same-market quotes rather than relying on an old listing or a different country’s price.

Which motorcycle is better for different riders?

For the rider who wants the higher published output

The cited 2025 U.S. Z900 specification is the clear choice on peak power, at 123 hp versus the Ducati’s 110 hp. Treat that as a paper advantage only. If your decision depends on acceleration, ride both motorcycles in the gears and conditions you actually use, because no matched independent test is available here.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For the rider who wants a road-sports identity

The SuperSport 950 is the natural fit if Ducati’s road-sports concept, faired appearance and 937 cc L-twin are the reasons you are shopping. The Kawasaki may still be the better purchase for your roads or budget, but it is not the same body-style proposition.

For the rider who wants a naked motorcycle

The Z900 is the direct match for Kawasaki’s naked-bike positioning. Its 2026 U.S. equipment list also includes more named electronic aids than the Ducati U.S. page cited here. Verify that those systems are present on the local version you can buy before treating this as a final feature advantage.

For a rider choosing by seat height

Neither motorcycle wins on the published number: both are listed at 31.9 inches. Arrange an in-person sit, preferably wearing the boots and riding clothing you use. Check whether you can place one or both feet securely, turn the bars without your knees hitting the controls, and reach the clutch and brake levers without stretching.

For a rider choosing by electronics

The cited 2026 U.S. Z900 page has the broader documented list: ABS, traction control, power modes, cornering management, quick shifter, IMU-enhanced chassis awareness and cruise control. The Ducati page documents Quick Shift up/down, while the inertial-platform reference comes from a 2024 India page. Ask for a market-specific Ducati equipment sheet before declaring a winner.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a rider choosing by operating cost

There is not enough matched evidence here to name a maintenance-cost winner. Ducati’s 9,000-mile/12-month interval is documented; the corresponding Kawasaki interval is not established in the cited material. Compare local service schedules, labor rates, insurance, consumables and dealer access using written quotes.

A practical buying process

  1. Fix the comparison year and country. Write down the exact Ducati and Kawasaki model years and the market in which each will be registered. Do not mix a 2024 India specification with a 2026 U.S. specification when deciding what your local motorcycle includes.
  2. Confirm the VIN-specific equipment. Ask for the official build sheet or local brochure. Check ABS, traction control, riding modes, cornering functions, cruise control and quick-shifter operation individually.
  3. Check fit at a standstill. Compare reach to the ground, bar position, lever adjustment and the ability to move the motorcycle backward under your own strength. The equal 31.9-inch seat figures are only an initial reference.
  4. Ride both on the same route. Include a low-speed section, a typical commute, a highway segment and several safe acceleration runs. Use the same rider, clothing, tire condition and fuel level as closely as practical.
  5. Evaluate the engine you actually use. Note clutch take-up, throttle response, shifting, heat, vibration and the rpm range you use most. Manufacturer peak figures cannot answer these subjective questions.
  6. Get ownership numbers in writing. Request purchase price, registration costs, insurance estimate, scheduled-service pricing and parts availability from a local dealer for each motorcycle.
  7. Recheck the final specification before payment. Confirm that the motorcycle delivered matches the year, market, trim and equipment you compared. Keep the local owner’s manual and service schedule with your purchase records.

Common comparison mistakes

  • Treating 123 hp as a universal victory. It is a higher claimed peak number, not a complete performance test.
  • Assuming equal seat heights mean equal ergonomics. Seat width and chassis setup can change your reach and balance.
  • Comparing 205 kg wet without fuel with 467.5 lb curb. The measurement definitions and markets differ.
  • Combining electronics from different years. The Kawasaki list is from a 2026 U.S. page; the Ducati inertial-platform reference is from a 2024 India page.
  • Using a foreign price or service schedule. Taxes, warranty terms, labor rates and equipment vary by country.
  • Expecting a specification sheet to choose your riding position. A test ride and a careful fit check are essential when the motorcycles represent different body styles.

Final decision

Pick the Kawasaki Z900 if your priority is the cited 123-hp peak-power figure, a naked-bike format and the broad electronic equipment list documented for the 2026 U.S. model. Pick the Ducati SuperSport 950 if you specifically want Ducati’s road-sports concept, 937 cc Testastretta 11° L-twin and faired sport-bike identity, and its fit and local support work for you.

The fairest conclusion is conditional rather than absolute. The Z900 leads the published power comparison, while the SuperSport answers a different style of motorcycle brief. Confirm the model year, market equipment, fit, service schedule and current local price, then let your riding position and intended roads decide which one is better for you.
