The Multistrada is the stronger fit for high-performance touring and adventure-style riding, with a higher listed peak output, adjustable electronic suspension and touring-focused equipment. The XDiavel is the better fit for a sport-cruiser brief: a 770 mm seat, feet-forward controls, a wide handlebar and a relaxed riding position.
Those conclusions come from Ducati’s stated model roles and specifications, not from an independent back-to-back road test. Ducati says equipment and specifications can vary by market, so use the figures below as a buying framework and confirm the exact local motorcycle with a dealer.

What each motorcycle is built to do
Multistrada V4 RS: performance touring and adventure priorities
Ducati positions the Multistrada V4 RS as a high-performance touring/adventure model. That description points to a motorcycle intended to combine strong road performance with the ability to cover distance in a more upright, travel-oriented format. Its specification emphasizes electronic suspension and touring-related rider aids rather than a low-slung cruiser stance.
For a buyer, “touring/adventure” does not automatically mean off-road use or a particular luggage package. The cited Ducati pages do not establish a universal luggage fitment, fuel range, passenger comfort score or off-road capability comparison. Treat the role description as a design direction, then verify the equipment and accessories offered in your market.
XDiavel V4: a sport cruiser with a relaxed stance
Ducati describes the XDiavel V4 as a sport cruiser. The manufacturer’s wording is unusually specific about the riding position: “The XDiavel V4’s riding position is relaxed, characterized by wide handlebars, forward footrests and a very comfortable spoon-shaped seat.” That combination is the central reason to choose it. It gives the motorcycle a low-seat, feet-forward character while retaining performance-focused electronics.
The XDiavel’s cruiser format is not simply a styling package. Foot placement, bar width and seat shape determine how your hips, knees, wrists and back are loaded at low speed and on longer rides. A rider who dislikes a tall seat or wants a laid-back stance may find those dimensions decisive even if the Multistrada has the higher peak horsepower.
Engine output: power and torque answer different questions
| Engine measure | Multistrada V4 RS | XDiavel V4 |
|---|---|---|
| Displacement and engine name | 1,103 cc Desmosedici Stradale V4 | 1,158 cc V4 Granturismo |
| Peak power | 180 hp (132.4 kW) at 12,250 rpm | 168 hp (124 kW) at 10,750 rpm |
| Peak torque | 118 Nm at 9,500 rpm | 126 Nm at 7,500 rpm |
Ducati lists 180 hp for the Multistrada V4 RS, 12 hp more than the XDiavel V4’s listed 168 hp. The Multistrada also reaches its peak power at a higher 12,250 rpm. That combination describes an engine tuned to continue making performance as revs rise, but it does not by itself predict a faster real-world motorcycle: gearing, traction, aerodynamics, rider input and test conditions all affect acceleration.

The XDiavel’s listed 126 Nm of torque is 8 Nm higher than the Multistrada’s 118 Nm, and it arrives at 7,500 rpm rather than 9,500 rpm. Lower-rpm peak torque can align with the strong, immediate response many cruiser riders want, but a peak number is not a complete torque curve. It cannot tell you how either engine feels at every throttle position or road speed.
Do not transfer Ducati’s Diavel V4 RS acceleration claim
Ducati’s September 12, 2025 announcement claims that the Diavel V4 RS accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.52 seconds (0–60 mph in 2.43 seconds). That statement applies specifically to the Diavel V4 RS. It is not a test result for the XDiavel V4, the standard Diavel V4 or the Multistrada V4 RS, so it should not be used to rank these two motorcycles.
No independent comparative acceleration, braking or lap-time result is established for the Multistrada V4 RS versus XDiavel V4. Use Ducati’s power and torque figures to understand the design intent, not as a substitute for a controlled ride comparison.
Seat height and ergonomics: the biggest practical difference
| Ergonomic point | Multistrada V4 RS | XDiavel V4 |
|---|---|---|
| Listed seat height | 840–860 mm, adjustable, on Ducati UK MY26 data | 770 mm |
| General layout | Touring/adventure-oriented rider triangle | Wide handlebar, forward footrests and spoon-shaped seat |
| Named position accessory | No comparable item identified in the cited specification | Optional mid-footpegs kit for a sportier position and greater lean angle |
Why the Multistrada’s seat range matters
Ducati’s UK MY26 page lists the Multistrada V4 RS seat at 840–860 mm. That is a tall seat by comparison with the XDiavel’s 770 mm listing, and the 20 mm range means the chosen setting changes reach to the ground. In a showroom, check whether you can place both feet securely, control the bike while backing up and stop on uneven pavement without stretching.
Seat height alone does not determine reach. Seat width, suspension sag, boot sole thickness and your inseam all change the practical distance to the ground. Ask the dealer to demonstrate the available seat setting and confirm whether any accessory seat changes the quoted height.

Why the XDiavel’s layout changes the riding experience
The XDiavel’s low seat and forward controls reduce the knee bend compared with a conventional upright motorcycle. The wide handlebar can make steering leverage feel different from the Multistrada’s touring/adventure arrangement, while the spoon-shaped seat is intended to support a relaxed posture. These are fit characteristics, not claims about comfort for every body type; spend enough time seated to check reach to the controls and whether the forward pegs suit your hips and lower back.

When the optional mid-footpegs kit is relevant
Ducati names an optional mid-footpegs kit for the XDiavel. The manufacturer says it creates a sportier position and allows greater lean angle. It is worth considering if you like the XDiavel’s low seat but do not want the most forward control position. Confirm year-specific fitment, local availability and any effect on your preferred riding posture before ordering.
Suspension, electronics and rider aids
Multistrada V4 RS equipment
The Multistrada V4 RS specification names Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 electronic suspension. Electronic suspension can alter damping and setup through the motorcycle’s control systems, which suits a bike expected to move between touring loads and spirited road riding. The US model page also lists adaptive cruise control, blind-spot detection and full-map navigation. Because Ducati warns that equipment varies by market, treat those US-listed functions as configuration examples rather than a promise that every country receives them.
Ducati’s September 2025 announcement says the new Multistrada V4 RS includes the Ducati Vehicle Observer system, developed in MotoGP, along with a more advanced electronics package. The announcement establishes Ducati’s stated technology direction, but it does not provide an independent evaluation of how the system performs on public roads.
XDiavel V4 equipment
Ducati lists Quick Shift 2.0, Power Launch, cruise control, Hands-Free, a 6.9-inch TFT display and a Multimedia System for the XDiavel V4 page. Those features support a performance-cruiser brief: quick gear changes, controlled launches and connected instrumentation without abandoning the low, relaxed chassis layout.

Do not assume that a feature name guarantees identical software, sensors or bundled accessories in your country. Ask for the local equipment list and whether navigation, phone integration or connectivity functions require a separate device or subscription.
How to compare the electronics intelligently
- Write down the functions you will actually use, such as adaptive cruise control for motorway travel, blind-spot awareness in dense traffic or launch control for occasional performance riding.
- Match each function to the exact market specification, not a global press image or another country’s web page.
- Ask the dealer to show the menu path, display layout and rider-mode controls on the motorcycle you can buy.
- Confirm whether a feature is standard, optional or tied to an accessory package before treating it as part of the value comparison.
Touring, passenger and everyday practicality
The Multistrada’s manufacturer-described touring/adventure role makes it the logical starting point for riders who regularly cover distance and want a performance motorcycle built around that mission. Its electronic suspension and the touring-related equipment named by Ducati support that interpretation. However, the cited specifications do not establish luggage capacity, passenger seat dimensions, wind protection, fuel economy or a real-world range comparison. Those details must be checked on the local bike and the accessory catalogue.
The XDiavel is the logical starting point for riders who want the visual and physical character of a sport cruiser. The low seat can simplify low-speed stops for some riders, while forward footrests and the wide handlebar define the posture. A passenger or long-distance buyer should sit on the actual motorcycle with the intended riding gear; a relaxed solo position does not automatically equal two-up touring comfort.
Questions to ask if you plan to carry a passenger
- Is the passenger seat and grab-rail arrangement standard on the local specification?
- What luggage, backrest and passenger comfort accessories are approved for your model year?
- How does the suspension system accommodate the combined rider, passenger and luggage load?
- Can both riders reach the footrests naturally without interfering with the rider’s controls?
Weight: a small listed gap, not a complete handling verdict
Ducati lists the Multistrada V4 RS at 225 kg (496 lb) wet without fuel and the XDiavel V4 at 229 kg (505 lb) wet without fuel. On that identical stated basis, the XDiavel is 4 kg heavier. The difference is real within Ducati’s specifications, but it is too small to decide the purchase on its own.
Perceived weight depends on where mass is carried, steering geometry, seat height, handlebar leverage, fuel load and how much of your time is spent stopped or moving slowly. The lower XDiavel seat may make its listed mass easier for some riders to manage at a standstill, while the Multistrada’s taller layout changes leverage and leg position. A showroom maneuver, not a spreadsheet, should settle which one feels controllable to you.

Maintenance planning and ownership questions
Ducati’s XDiavel V4 model specification lists an oil service at 15,000 km (9,000 miles) or 24 months and a valve-clearance check at 60,000 km (37,000 miles). Confirm the interval, required fluids and labor time in the service schedule supplied for your market, because Ducati notes that specifications and equipment can vary by region.
The cited official material does not provide a directly comparable Multistrada V4 RS service schedule, maintenance cost, insurance cost, fuel economy or reliability statistic. Do not infer those figures from engine displacement or from the XDiavel interval. Request a written maintenance plan and local labor estimate for the exact VIN or model year you are considering.
Ownership checks before signing
- Ask for the local model-year specification sheet and verify the listed power, torque, seat configuration and equipment.
- Request the scheduled-service intervals for oil, valves, brake fluid, coolant and other recurring items.
- Get an itemized quote for mandatory accessories, luggage, passenger equipment and any electronic packages.
- Confirm warranty terms, roadside assistance and the dealer’s parts lead times.
- Arrange a ride or static fit check in your normal gear before placing a deposit.
Which one is better for specific riding priorities?
Choose the Multistrada V4 RS when…
- Your main use is fast road touring or an adventure-style travel format.
- You value the higher listed peak power of 180 hp at 12,250 rpm.
- Electronic Öhlins Smart EC 2.0 suspension is important to your setup and load-management priorities.
- You want the touring-oriented equipment and rider aids listed on the relevant local Ducati specification.
- You can manage an 840–860 mm seat range and prefer an upright travel-oriented rider triangle.
Choose the XDiavel V4 when…
- You specifically want a sport cruiser rather than a touring/adventure motorcycle.
- A 770 mm listed seat is a major fit advantage.
- You prefer wide handlebars, forward footrests and a spoon-shaped seat.
- The lower-rpm character implied by 126 Nm at 7,500 rpm appeals more than maximum peak horsepower.
- You want the option of Ducati’s mid-footpegs kit for a sportier position and greater lean angle.
Do not choose on the numbers alone when…
- You have not sat on both motorcycles in your riding boots.
- The local equipment list has not been confirmed.
- You need passenger, luggage or touring details that the global model pages do not specify.
- You are using the Diavel V4 RS acceleration claim to estimate either of these motorcycles.
A practical showroom decision process
- Define your dominant ride. Write down whether most miles are commuting, weekend sport riding, long-distance touring, two-up travel or relaxed solo cruising.
- Check fit first. Sit on each bike, reach both bars and controls, operate the stand and simulate a stop. The 840–860 mm Multistrada seat and 770 mm XDiavel seat create fundamentally different starting points.
- Compare posture over time. Remain seated for at least several minutes with your normal jacket and boots. Note knee angle, hip rotation, wrist pressure and whether the forward XDiavel controls feel natural.
- Verify the build. Match the motorcycle’s VIN, model year and country specification to the equipment you expect, including suspension, navigation, rider aids, TFT functions and accessories.
- Request a controlled ride if available. A ride is the only reliable way to judge clutch response, steering effort, engine character, wind exposure and low-speed balance for your body.
- Price the complete use case. Add required luggage, passenger equipment, protection, the XDiavel mid-footpegs kit if desired, scheduled service and insurance. Ducati’s cited pages do not establish current market prices or inventory, so obtain those locally.
- Make the final choice by mission. If the touring/adventure format remains your priority, the Multistrada is the coherent match. If low-seat, feet-forward sport-cruiser ergonomics remain your priority, the XDiavel is the coherent match.
What the published specifications cannot tell you
Official figures are useful for narrowing the field, but they do not replace an evaluation of the motorcycle you will actually own. The available Ducati material does not establish an independent ride comparison, braking distances, cornering speeds, fuel consumption in a shared test, long-term reliability, whole-life cost, current dealer inventory or current local pricing. It also does not provide a universal seat-comfort ranking or prove that a listed electronic aid works identically in every market.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThat limitation is especially important here because the bikes are not direct substitutes in the usual sense. The Multistrada’s taller touring/adventure format and the XDiavel’s low sport-cruiser format can make one feel immediately right and the other unsuitable before engine output becomes relevant. Use the specifications to ask precise questions, then validate fit, equipment and ownership terms with the local dealer.
Bottom line
The Ducati Multistrada V4 RS is the better match for a rider who wants high-performance touring/adventure capability, a higher listed 180 hp peak, electronic Öhlins suspension and touring-oriented technology. The Ducati XDiavel V4 is the better match for a rider who wants a low 770 mm seat, feet-forward controls, a wide handlebar and sport-cruiser character, with more listed peak torque at lower rpm.
Choose the motorcycle that fits your riding posture and primary trips. Confirm the local model year, equipment, service schedule, price and availability before buying, because Ducati’s specifications can vary by market.
