There is no universal winner. The 2026 Kawasaki Z1100 SE ABS has the higher published engine output, while the 2026 Ducati Monster V2 has a much lower published weight figure and a different V2 character. The most important qualification is that the manufacturers use different weight definitions, so the numbers cannot be treated as a precise apples-to-apples advantage.

For the U.S. market, this comparison uses Ducati’s 2026 Monster V2 listings and Kawasaki’s 2026 Z1100 SE ABS listing. Choose the Kawasaki if stronger stated power and torque, cruise control, and its SE suspension and brake package matter most. Choose the Ducati if a compact 90-degree V2, lower stated mass, Ducati’s electronics package, and its published 28,000-mile valve-clearance interval fit your priorities. Seat height is listed as 32.1 inches for both, but a test ride and an in-person fit check should decide the final choice.

What is actually being compared?

The model names cover different configurations. Ducati’s U.S. product page presents the 2026 Monster V2 in several configurations and colors, including Monster and Monster+ versions. Kawasaki’s U.S. listing used here is specifically the 2026 Z1100 SE ABS. A price or equipment comparison is meaningful only when you identify the exact trim, destination charge, and market.

Source figures: Ducati’s 2026 Monster V2 specifications and Kawasaki’s 2026 Z1100 SE ABS specifications.

Engine and performance: Kawasaki wins the published-output contest

Ducati’s 890 cc 90-degree V2

The Monster’s 890 cc V2 is listed at 110.7 horsepower at 9,000 rpm and 67 lb-ft of torque at 7,250 rpm. Those figures describe the engine’s peak points, not the shape of its torque curve, throttle response, gearing, vibration, sound, or how quickly the motorcycle changes direction. Ducati’s official launch description calls the Monster an “iconic, charming bike” that is “advanced and easy to handle”; that is manufacturer positioning, not an independent handling verdict.

The V2 layout is the defining mechanical choice. A buyer who wants the feel and packaging associated with a 90-degree twin may value the Monster even when another motorcycle has a larger displacement or higher peak figures. The published specifications alone cannot establish which engine feels smoother, stronger in a particular gear, or easier to manage in traffic.

Kawasaki’s 1,099 cc inline-four

The Z1100 SE’s 1,099 cc inline-four is listed at 134.0 horsepower at 9,000 rpm and 83.3 lb-ft of torque at 7,600 rpm. On the U.S. figures, that is a 23.3-horsepower and 16.3-lb-ft advantage over the Ducati’s listed peaks. Both engines reach their stated maximum horsepower at 9,000 rpm, while the Kawasaki’s listed peak torque arrives 350 rpm later.

The extra output gives the Kawasaki the clearer specification-based case for riders who prioritize acceleration potential, high-speed passing reserve, or the performance headroom of a larger four-cylinder engine. It still does not prove a faster real-world motorcycle in every situation: gearing, traction, rider input, conditions, and the motorcycles’ different weights all affect actual results.

Do not mix U.S. and European Kawasaki numbers

Kawasaki Europe lists the Z1100 SE at 100.0 kW and 136 PS at 9,000 rpm, with 113.0 Nm at 7,600 rpm. The U.S. page lists 134.0 hp and 83.3 lb-ft. Keep the region and units attached to every number; the pages use different market specifications and measurement conventions. The European figures should not be presented as a correction to the U.S. listing without establishing the relevant testing and homologation basis. See Kawasaki Europe’s Z1100 SE specification page.

Weight, seat height, and chassis: the numbers need context

The Ducati’s stated weight is lower, but not directly comparable

Ducati lists the Monster at 386 lb wet without fuel. Kawasaki lists the Z1100 SE at 487.3 lb curb and defines curb weight as including fluids, a tank that is more than 90% full, and the toolkit if supplied. Those are not identical measurement bases. The 101.3-pound arithmetic difference is therefore not an apples-to-apples statement of how much heavier one ready-to-ride motorcycle is.

The practical conclusion is narrower and safer: Ducati publishes a substantially lower number under its stated convention, while Kawasaki publishes a higher curb figure under a fuller, explicitly defined convention. Before using either number to predict parking-lot maneuverability, braking feel, or cornering effort, sit on both motorcycles and ride them. Fuel load, accessories, tire choice, and rider position also affect what you experience.

Both list a 32.1-inch seat height

Both U.S. pages list a 32.1-inch seat height. That equal specification does not guarantee equal reach to the ground. Seat width, shape, suspension sag, frame geometry, rider inseam, boots, and where your hips sit can change the effective reach. Ducati lists lower-seat accessory options, which may matter if the standard seat feels tall or wide.

During a dealer visit, check whether you can place the balls of both feet down while keeping the motorcycle balanced, move it backward on a slight slope, reach the controls without stretching, and hold the bike at a stop with the bars turned. These checks answer fit questions that a single seat-height number cannot.

Chassis and suspension hardware

The Monster uses a monocoque aluminum frame, a 43 mm Showa fork, and a Showa monoshock with preload adjustment. Its braking specification is twin 320 mm front discs with Brembo M4.32 calipers.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Z1100 uses a twin-tube aluminum frame, a 41 mm adjustable inverted fork, and an Öhlins S46 rear shock on the SE trim. Kawasaki lists dual front discs and Brembo M4.32 calipers. The Kawasaki fork offers more explicitly listed adjustment, and the SE’s rear shock is a premium component by specification. That does not establish which suspension is better set up for your roads or weight; adjustment range, spring rates, damping settings, tire condition, and setup support all matter.

Electronics and equipment: similar goals, different packages

Monster V2 rider aids

Ducati lists a six-axis inertial measurement unit, cornering ABS, Ducati Traction Control, Ducati Wheelie Control, Ducati Quick Shift 2.0, engine-brake control, and four riding modes. This is a broad electronic package for a middle-displacement naked motorcycle. The riding modes let the manufacturer combine throttle response and intervention settings, while the IMU allows the systems to account for lean angle and other chassis movement.

The Monster’s 5-inch full-color TFT is paired with Ducati Multimedia System functionality and listed turn-by-turn navigation. Confirm the phone, headset, app, and regional requirements with a dealer before treating every connectivity feature as included and ready to use.

Z1100 SE rider aids

Kawasaki lists an IMU-based system that monitors chassis orientation, Kawasaki Cornering Management Function, Kawasaki Traction Control, Kawasaki Intelligent Braking System with ABS, selectable power modes, cruise control, and Kawasaki Quick Shifter. Cruise control is a meaningful equipment distinction for riders who spend time on highways; it is not listed in the Ducati equipment summary supplied for this comparison.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Z1100 SE has a 5-inch TFT and smartphone connectivity. Kawasaki states that some voice-command and navigation functions require a purchased license, and that availability can vary by market. Budget for that qualification rather than assuming every navigation function is unlocked at delivery. Details are on the U.S. Z1100 SE page.

Price: compare exact trims and destination charges

Ducati Monster V2 pricing

Ducati’s U.S. page displays Monster configurations starting at $13,295. It lists Monster+ configurations separately and shows an additional $995 destination-charge note for the Monster+. Because colors and equipment configurations can carry different displayed prices, identify the exact Monster or Monster+ version in any quote.

Kawasaki Z1100 SE ABS pricing

Kawasaki’s U.S. listing shows a $14,999 MSRP for the Z1100 SE ABS and an $840 destination charge. The page displays $15,839 when that destination charge is included. Taxes, registration, dealer documentation, setup, accessories, financing, and incentives can change the amount you actually pay.

What the price gap does and does not show

The displayed figures put the Kawasaki’s listed MSRP above the starting Monster price, but they are not perfectly matched trims. A base Monster, a Monster+ with its destination note, and a Z1100 SE ABS do not represent identical equipment levels. Ask both dealers for an itemized out-the-door quote using the same assumptions. Manufacturer-listed prices are current reference points, not guaranteed transaction prices.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Maintenance evidence: one clear Ducati interval, no ownership-cost winner

Ducati publishes a valve-clearance check at 28,000 miles (45,000 km) for the Monster. That is a useful planning figure for a high-value service event. The official Kawasaki pages checked for this comparison do not establish a comparable valve-clearance interval or a complete maintenance-cost schedule.

Because one interval is published and the other is not in the available U.S. product information, you cannot responsibly declare a maintenance-cost winner. Request the Kawasaki service schedule, labor estimates, parts prices, warranty terms, and dealer inspection intervals before comparing total ownership cost. Also account for tires, chain and sprocket wear, brake consumables, insurance, registration, accessories, and riding frequency.

The Ducati interval appears on the Monster product page and in Ducati’s October 23, 2025 U.S. launch announcement.

Which motorcycle fits which rider?

Choose the Kawasaki when these priorities lead

  • Higher published output: 134.0 hp and 83.3 lb-ft exceed the Ducati’s listed 110.7 hp and 67 lb-ft.
  • Highway equipment: cruise control is part of the listed Z1100 SE electronics package.
  • SE hardware: the trim includes an adjustable inverted fork and an Öhlins S46 rear shock by specification.
  • Four-cylinder character: you specifically want a 1,099 cc inline-four rather than a V2.
  • Ready-to-ride mass is less important: you accept Kawasaki’s higher published curb figure in exchange for the engine and equipment package.

Those are specification-based reasons, not proof that every rider will find the Z1100 more exciting or easier to control. Confirm the riding position, throttle response, heat, vibration, and low-speed balance on a legal, supervised test ride.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose the Ducati when these priorities lead

  • Compact V2 format: the 90-degree 890 cc engine is the central identity of the Monster.
  • Lower stated weight: Ducati’s 386-lb wet-without-fuel figure is much lower than Kawasaki’s 487.3-lb curb figure, subject to the measurement caveat.
  • Integrated rider aids: the listed package includes cornering ABS, traction control, wheelie control, engine-brake control, quick shift, and four riding modes.
  • Navigation approach: Ducati lists its Multimedia System and turn-by-turn navigation with the 5-inch TFT.
  • Published service planning: the 28,000-mile valve-clearance check gives you a clear Ducati interval to put into a maintenance budget.
  • Lower-seat option: Ducati lists accessory lower-seat choices if the standard 32.1-inch seat does not suit you.

Again, the lower published weight does not by itself prove easier handling because Kawasaki and Ducati define the figures differently. Ride both before using weight as the deciding factor.

A practical buying process

Use the following sequence to turn the specification comparison into a purchase decision.

  1. Define the exact models. Write down “2026 Ducati Monster V2,” “2026 Ducati Monster+,” or “2026 Kawasaki Z1100 SE ABS.” Do not compare a dealer’s different-year or different-trim inventory against the wrong price.
  2. Record an itemized quote. Ask each dealer to separate MSRP, destination, setup, documentation, taxes, registration, accessories, and discounts. Compare the final totals rather than headline prices.
  3. Check fit while stationary. Wear the boots and riding gear you normally use. Test foot reach, bar reach, clutch feel, steering lock, backing up, and holding the motorcycle upright on uneven ground.
  4. Arrange equivalent test rides. Ride similar roads on both motorcycles, including a low-speed section, a representative bend, a stop-and-go stretch, and a highway segment where legal. Keep weather, tire condition, and riding time as comparable as possible.
  5. Evaluate the controls. Check mode changes, quick-shifter behavior, brake feel, engine braking, traction-control adjustability, cruise-control operation on the Kawasaki, and the visibility of each TFT in sunlight.
  6. Verify connectivity costs. Confirm which navigation and voice features work in your country, which app or phone permissions are required, and whether Kawasaki’s license requirement applies to the functions you want.
  7. Request service information. Get the Kawasaki schedule and written estimates, then compare them with Ducati’s 28,000-mile valve-clearance interval and the rest of each dealer’s maintenance plan.
  8. Check final availability. Manufacturer pages warn that equipment and specifications can vary by market. Verify the VIN-year, color, trim, recalls, warranty, and delivery date before signing.

Common comparison mistakes

Treating the weight difference as exact

Subtracting 386 from 487.3 produces a large number, but it combines Ducati’s wet-without-fuel convention with Kawasaki’s curb convention that includes a nearly full tank and a toolkit. Use the figures as directional information, not as a laboratory comparison.

Assuming equal seat heights mean equal ergonomics

Both list 32.1 inches, yet seat shape and chassis layout can make one motorcycle easier to reach, move, or balance. Lower-seat availability on the Ducati is useful, but only your own fit check can establish comfort.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Using peak horsepower as a complete performance verdict

Peak power and torque are single points in the rev range. They do not describe acceleration in a selected gear, roll-on response, gearing, traction, heat, sound, or rider confidence. No independent comparative performance test is established by the manufacturer pages used here.

Comparing a base Ducati price with a fully specified Kawasaki without naming trims

The Ducati page shows multiple Monster configurations, while Kawasaki’s listing is the SE ABS. State the trim and destination charge whenever you quote a price.

Assuming a manufacturer feature list guarantees every regional function

Kawasaki specifically qualifies some voice-command and navigation functions with a purchased license and notes that availability can vary. Ducati also warns that specifications and equipment may vary by market. Verify the exact motorcycle and software features delivered in your country.

Bottom line for a 2026 buyer

The Kawasaki Z1100 SE ABS is the stronger specification choice for a rider who wants the higher listed output of its 1,099 cc inline-four, cruise control, and SE suspension hardware. The Ducati Monster V2 is the stronger fit for someone drawn to a 90-degree V2, Ducati’s broad electronic aids, a much lower published weight figure under its own convention, and a clearly published 28,000-mile valve-clearance check.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Neither result is universal. The seat-height number is equal, the weight measurements are not directly equivalent, and the products are not perfectly matched trims. Get an itemized local quote, confirm market-specific equipment and service information, and ride both motorcycles before deciding.
