Ducati Hypermotard 950 vs Panigale V2: Which One Fits Your Riding?

The Hypermotard 950 favors upright motard ergonomics and torque, while the MY25 Panigale V2 delivers a faired sportbike layout, higher stated power, lower seat and lighter published weight.

Neither Ducati is universally better. The Hypermotard 950 is the logical choice for an upright, wide-bar, motard-style riding position, stronger stated peak torque and long-travel suspension options. The MY25 Panigale V2 is the better fit for a rider who wants a faired sportbike, higher stated peak power, a lower seat and a lighter published wet weight. That conclusion is based on Ducati’s specifications and design descriptions, not an independent head-to-head road test.

Start by identifying the exact motorcycles

“Panigale V2” is not one unchanging motorcycle. Earlier generations use different engines, chassis parts and dimensions. The quantitative Panigale in this comparison is the MY25 model introduced in Ducati’s November 5, 2024 announcement. Likewise, “Hypermotard 950” covers the standard model, RVE and SP, which do not share every component or dimension.

Ducati also cautions that equipment and specifications can vary by market. Confirm the model year, trim, country specification and new-versus-used status with a local Ducati dealer before treating any figure as a purchase specification.

The weights use Ducati’s stated convention of wet weight without fuel. They are not directly comparable with a measured, fueled motorcycle on a public weighbridge. Peak horsepower and torque are manufacturer figures; they do not by themselves prove which bike accelerates faster in every gear or feels easier at every road speed.

Riding position and intended use

Hypermotard 950: upright leverage and movement

Ducati describes the Hypermotard as a motard-style motorcycle with an upright posture and wide handlebars. That layout generally gives the rider more upper-body room, a commanding view and substantial leverage at the bar. Those are reasoned ergonomic inferences from the design; they are not a claim of a standardized comfort test.

The tall 870 mm seat on the standard and RVE, and 890 mm on the SP, are central to the experience. A rider with a shorter inseam may need to slide forward at stops, use one foot, or request a showroom sit-test before deciding. Suspension sag, seat width and boot sole thickness also change the reach to the ground, so a published seat height is a screening number rather than a fit guarantee.

The upright triangle is a sensible starting point for urban riding, tight back roads and roads where frequent steering input and visibility matter. It does not mean the Hypermotard is automatically more comfortable for every rider or every distance.

Panigale V2 MY25: faired sportbike ergonomics

The Panigale V2 has a faired sportbike layout. Ducati says the MY25 ergonomic triangle was revised to reduce wrist load while retaining front-end feel when cornering. That is a manufacturer description, not an independent comfort measurement. The lower 837 mm seat is a substantial fit advantage on paper for many riders, although clip-on position, knee bend, seat shape and reach to the controls still determine whether it suits your body.

The fairing and sportbike stance make the Panigale the more natural choice when your priority is a conventional supersport riding position and the visual and aerodynamic character that comes with it. A lower seat does not turn it into an upright standard motorcycle; spend time seated in full riding gear before ordering one.

Engine output: torque versus power

What the numbers say

The Hypermotard’s 937 cc Testastretta 11° twin is rated at 114 hp at 9,000 rpm and 96 Nm at 7,250 rpm. The MY25 Panigale V2’s 890 cc V2 is rated at 120 hp at 10,750 rpm and 93.3 Nm at 8,250 rpm.

  • The Panigale has the higher stated peak power, by 6 hp, and reaches that peak at a higher engine speed.
  • The Hypermotard has the higher stated peak torque, by 2.7 Nm, and reaches it earlier.
  • These are peak values at different rpm points. They do not describe the complete torque curve, gearing, throttle calibration, traction limits or real-world acceleration.

For a rider choosing from specifications alone, the Hypermotard’s earlier, higher peak-torque figure supports an inference of an engine character that should feel muscular in ordinary road use. The Panigale’s higher peak-power figure supports an inference of greater top-end emphasis. Neither inference replaces a controlled test ride, and neither establishes a universal winner.

Ducati’s MY25 Panigale design change

In its November 5, 2024 launch announcement, Ducati called the new Panigale V2 “an epochal transition” because the bikes were designed from the ground up rather than simply adopting an engine with reduced displacement. That is Ducati’s marketing and engineering description, not an independent validation. It is also why older Panigale V2 specifications should not be mixed into this MY25 comparison.

Weight, seat height and real-world fit

On Ducati’s published figures, the MY25 Panigale V2 is the lightest motorcycle here at 179 kg wet without fuel. The Hypermotard 950 standard and RVE are listed at 193 kg, while the SP is listed at 191 kg. The 12-to-14 kg difference can matter when pushing the motorcycle, making tight parking maneuvers or changing direction, but published weight does not predict every rider’s sense of agility. Mass distribution, handlebar leverage, steering geometry, tires and suspension setup all contribute.

The seat-height gap is larger: 837 mm for the Panigale, 870 mm for the Hypermotard standard/RVE and 890 mm for the SP. Before comparing numbers with your inseam, ask the dealer to let you sit on the exact trim with the suspension at its normal sag. A motorcycle that is technically lower can still feel difficult to support if the seat is wide or the rider’s hips are positioned far from the ground.

Suspension and chassis equipment

Hypermotard standard and RVE

The standard and RVE use a Marzocchi front fork with 170 mm of travel and a Sachs rear shock with 150 mm. That is considerably more front travel than the Panigale’s 120 mm and suits the Hypermotard’s tall, upright format. Longer travel can provide more room for bumps and load changes, but it does not prove superior grip or comfort on a particular road without matching setup and testing.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Hypermotard SP

The SP replaces those units with Öhlins suspension and increases travel to 185 mm at the front and 175 mm at the rear. It also raises the seat to 890 mm. The SP should therefore be treated as a distinct configuration, not as a cosmetic package applied to every 950. Riders who value suspension adjustability and the tallest, most specialized Hypermotard setup should examine the SP separately from the standard and RVE.

Panigale V2 MY25

The MY25 Panigale uses an adjustable 43 mm Marzocchi fork and a Kayaba rear shock, with 120 mm front and 150 mm rear travel. Those figures are typical of a faired sportbike architecture: less suspension travel and a lower overall stance than the Hypermotard. They describe hardware and geometry, not a guaranteed lap time, ride quality or cornering advantage.

Suspension choice should be matched to the rider rather than judged only by brand. Ask the dealer what adjustments are available, whether the showroom motorcycle has factory settings, and whether sag can be set for your weight. A well-set-up standard model may suit you better than an SP whose taller seat and settings are difficult to manage.

Electronics and standard equipment

Ducati lists Cornering ABS EVO, traction control, wheelie control and riding modes for the Hypermotard 950 family. Quick shift is standard on the SP and RVE and optional on the standard trim according to Ducati’s specification information. Check the exact national equipment list, because market content can differ.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The MY25 Panigale V2 brochure lists riding and power modes, Cornering ABS, traction and wheelie control, engine-brake control, automatic tire calibration and a brake-light function. The systems are not a simple scorecard: calibration, menu layout, rider preference and the ability to adjust intervention matter as much as the number of features. Confirm which functions are standard on the motorcycle in your country rather than assuming every MY25 Panigale has identical software or hardware.

Ducati’s Hypermotard materials also identify model-related options such as heated grips and readiness for the Ducati Multimedia System. Availability and compatibility can depend on year, trim and market. Treat those items as equipment to verify on the vehicle’s specification sheet, not as universal standard equipment.

Maintenance intervals and ownership questions

Maintenance item Hypermotard 950 Panigale V2 MY25
Routine/oil service interval 15,000 km or 12 months Oil service at 15,000 km or 24 months
Valve/Desmo inspection Valve-clearance check at 30,000 km Desmo service at 30,000 km

The intervals are not a total cost-of-ownership estimate. Labor rates, local taxes, consumables, valve-check labor, tire choice and dealership pricing can change the bill substantially. Ask a local dealer for a written schedule and price for your market, and request the same information for a used motorcycle’s next due service.

For a used bike, obtain service invoices, verify the VIN and model year, check whether the correct trim-specific suspension and electronics are present, and determine whether the 15,000 km and 30,000 km milestones have been completed. Do not infer reliability, resale value or annual running cost from the intervals alone; no independent statistics establish those outcomes here.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The different time limits also matter to low-mileage owners. A Hypermotard routine service is listed at 12 months, while the Panigale V2 oil-service interval is listed at 24 months. That does not eliminate annual inspections, storage preparation or local legal requirements, so ask the dealer exactly what is due when distance is low but calendar time has passed.

Price, availability and buying checks

No single global price comparison is reliable because Ducati pricing, taxes, registration charges, freight, inventory and equipment vary by country. Request an itemized quote for the exact year and trim, including dealer-installed options. Compare the standard Hypermotard, RVE and SP as separate motorcycles rather than assuming the price difference buys only graphics.

Ask whether the quoted Panigale is genuinely MY25, especially when a dealer has earlier stock. Confirm the model-year code, engine specification and included electronics on the vehicle identification sheet. For either motorcycle, ask about delivery timing, warranty terms and the next scheduled service. Ducati directs buyers to local dealers for market information, which is the appropriate place to verify availability and current pricing.

Which Ducati is better for common riding priorities?

If your priority is… Specification-led choice Why
Upright posture and wide-bar leverage Hypermotard 950 Ducati identifies its motard-style format, upright posture and wide handlebars.
Faired sportbike character Panigale V2 MY25 Its bodywork and sportbike ergonomic triangle are designed around that role.
Highest stated peak power Panigale V2 MY25 120 hp at 10,750 rpm versus 114 hp at 9,000 rpm.
Highest stated peak torque Hypermotard 950 96 Nm at 7,250 rpm versus 93.3 Nm at 8,250 rpm.
Lowest published seat Panigale V2 MY25 837 mm versus 870 mm on standard/RVE and 890 mm on SP.
Lowest published wet weight Panigale V2 MY25 179 kg without fuel versus 191–193 kg for the Hypermotard trims listed.
Most suspension travel Hypermotard 950 SP 185 mm front and 175 mm rear, with Öhlins components.

This table is a decision aid, not a performance ranking. If two priorities conflict—for example, a low seat and an upright posture—your physical fit and intended roads should decide which compromise is acceptable.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What each motorcycle asks you to compromise

Choosing the Hypermotard means accepting a taller seat than the Panigale in every listed trim. The SP adds another 20 mm over the standard and RVE, reaching 890 mm. In return, the family offers the upright layout, higher stated peak torque and substantially more suspension travel. A rider who cannot confidently place a foot at a stop may value those dynamic qualities less than a secure fit.

Choosing the Panigale means accepting a sportbike posture even though Ducati says the MY25 revision reduces wrist load. Its 837 mm seat and 179 kg wet weight are advantages on paper, but the fairing, lower travel and sportbike ergonomic triangle remain defining characteristics. A rider seeking a commanding upright view or broad handlebar leverage should not choose it solely because the seat is lower.

Neither specification sheet supplies a universal answer about passenger comfort, long-distance fatigue, reliability or resale value. Those outcomes depend on the rider, setup, market and use. Keep the decision anchored to the documented differences and verify subjective factors by sitting on or riding the exact motorcycle.

How to choose before you buy

  1. Write down the exact target. Record “Hypermotard 950 standard,” “RVE,” “SP” or “Panigale V2 MY25,” plus your country and model year. Do not compare a used earlier Panigale with MY25 figures.
  2. Measure your fit. Bring your normal boots and riding trousers. Sit on the exact motorcycle, reach both bars, check knee angle and practice supporting it at a stop.
  3. Match the riding position to your roads. Decide whether your riding is dominated by upright urban and winding-road use or by the faired sportbike posture you specifically want. This is an ergonomic decision, not a claim that one chassis is universally faster.
  4. Compare the full equipment list. Confirm quickshifter status, riding modes, suspension brand and adjustability, and any market-specific options on the vehicle identification sheet.
  5. Request local pricing and service estimates. Get the motorcycle price, registration costs, first service, 15,000 km service and 30,000 km Desmo or valve service in writing. The published intervals do not reveal your dealer’s labor charge.
  6. Inspect a used example by trim. Verify the VIN, service records, accident repairs, warning lights, suspension condition and whether the advertised SP or RVE equipment is actually fitted.
  7. Arrange a sit-test or test ride. Ducati’s specifications can narrow the choice, but they cannot establish your comfort, confidence, throttle response preference or ability to manage the seat height.

Common comparison mistakes

  • Mixing generations: MY25 Panigale V2 figures do not describe earlier Panigale V2 models.
  • Treating every Hypermotard 950 as identical: the SP has Öhlins suspension, more travel and a 20 mm taller seat than standard/RVE.
  • Using peak power as an acceleration guarantee: gearing, torque delivery, rider aids, tires and conditions also matter.
  • Assuming the lowest seat is automatically easiest: seat width, suspension sag and your inseam change actual reach.
  • Reading service intervals as ownership cost: only a market-specific dealer estimate can price labor and parts.
  • Assuming listed equipment is global: Ducati notes that specifications and equipment can vary by market.
  • Comparing wet weights as if they were measured identically in a showroom: Ducati’s figures exclude fuel, while accessories and measuring practice can change a ready-to-ride motorcycle’s scale reading.
  • Calling the SP an appearance-only upgrade: its Öhlins units, longer travel and taller seat materially change the specification.

The practical verdict

Choose the Hypermotard 950 when your decisive requirements are an upright motard-style stance, wide handlebars, the higher stated peak-torque figure or long-travel suspension—especially the Öhlins-equipped SP. Choose the MY25 Panigale V2 when you want a faired sportbike, the higher stated peak-power figure, a 837 mm seat and the lighter 179 kg published wet weight.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If neither list clearly wins, the deciding step is a dealer sit-test or ride on the exact year and trim. Your fit, local specification, service pricing and intended roads can outweigh the headline engine numbers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which is better, the Ducati Hypermotard 950 or Panigale V2?

There is no universal winner. The Hypermotard 950 suits an upright motard-style position, wide handlebars, higher stated peak torque and longer-travel suspension. The MY25 Panigale V2 suits a faired sportbike preference, higher stated peak power, a lower seat and lighter published wet weight.

Is the Hypermotard 950 more comfortable than the Panigale V2?

That depends on your body and riding. Its upright posture and wide bars may reduce the need to lean forward, while Ducati says the MY25 Panigale ergonomic triangle was revised to reduce wrist load. Neither statement is an independent comfort test, so sit on the exact motorcycle in your normal gear.

Which has more power and torque?

The MY25 Panigale V2 is rated at 120 hp at 10,750 rpm, versus 114 hp at 9,000 rpm for the Hypermotard 950. The Hypermotard is rated at 96 Nm at 7,250 rpm, versus 93.3 Nm at 8,250 rpm for the Panigale.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Which Ducati is easier for a shorter rider?

The Panigale has the lower published seat at 837 mm. The Hypermotard is listed at 870 mm in standard/RVE form and 890 mm as an SP. Seat width, suspension sag, inseam and boot sole still determine actual reach, so a dealer sit-test is essential.

Which is lighter?

The MY25 Panigale V2 is listed at 179 kg wet without fuel. The Hypermotard 950 standard and RVE are listed at 193 kg, and the SP at 191 kg, using Ducati’s stated measurement convention.

What is the difference between the Hypermotard 950 standard, RVE and SP?

The standard and RVE use a Marzocchi fork with 170 mm travel and a Sachs shock with 150 mm travel, while the SP uses Öhlins suspension with 185 mm front and 175 mm rear travel. The SP also has an 890 mm seat instead of 870 mm, and quick shift is standard on SP and RVE but optional on the standard trim according to Ducati’s specification information.

What are the service intervals?

Ducati lists routine service for the Hypermotard 950 at 15,000 km or 12 months, with a valve-clearance check at 30,000 km. The MY25 Panigale V2 lists an oil service at 15,000 km or 24 months and a Desmo service at 30,000 km. Dealer labor and parts pricing vary by market.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Should I compare an older Panigale V2 with these figures?

No. The figures in this comparison apply specifically to the MY25 Panigale V2 introduced in Ducati’s November 5, 2024 announcement. Earlier Panigale V2 generations can have different engines, dimensions, equipment and weights.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Pick the Hypermotard 950 for upright motard ergonomics, higher stated peak torque and long-travel suspension; pick the MY25 Panigale V2 for faired sportbike character, higher stated peak power, a 837 mm seat and 179 kg published wet weight. Confirm the exact trim, market equipment, price and service costs, then sit on or ride that motorcycle before deciding.
