Choose the Ducati Streetfighter V2 if you want a lower sport-oriented naked bike, a newer 890 cc V2, and the latest listed electronics package. Neither is objectively “better.” They target different body positions and uses, and the exact Hypermotard 950/RVE/SP or Streetfighter V2/S trim changes the answer. The figures below are Ducati-published specifications from model pages accessed in 2026, not independent test results.
What is the real difference between the Hypermotard 950 and Streetfighter V2?
These Ducatis overlap in price category and cylinder count, but they are not direct equivalents in design. Ducati presents the Hypermotard 950 as a “fun-bike”: a tall machine with a steel trellis frame, a 70-degree steering angle, wide leverage at the bars and a supermoto-inspired stance. The Streetfighter V2 is the sport-oriented naked alternative, built around an aluminum monocoque frame and an ergonomic package derived from sports riding.

That distinction matters more than a peak-horsepower comparison. A rider who enjoys standing taller over the front of the bike, quick direction changes at urban speeds and a commanding view may prefer the Hypermotard even though it is not the newest engine design. A rider who wants a lower seat, a compact road-sport posture and the Streetfighter’s current electronic suite may be happier on the V2. Start by deciding how you want to sit and where you will ride; then use the specifications to choose the appropriate trim.

Every number in this table is a manufacturer specification. Ducati’s figures are useful for comparing the catalogued motorcycles, but they do not predict acceleration times, fuel economy, comfort, braking distances or a particular rider’s lap time.
Hypermotard 950 family: choose the version that matches your use
Hypermotard 950
The standard Hypermotard is the reference point for the family. Its 937 cc Testastretta 11° engine is listed at 114 hp and 96 Nm, while the tall 870 mm seat and long-travel suspension create the upright, leverage-rich riding position that defines the model. The 45 mm Marzocchi fork is fully adjustable and provides 170 mm of front travel; a Sachs rear shock supplies 150 mm at the back.
Ducati lists Bosch Cornering ABS EVO with Slide by Brake, Ducati Wheelie Control EVO, and three riding modes—Sport, Touring and Urban. The 4.3-inch TFT presents the riding information. This equipment list tells you what is fitted; it does not establish that the Hypermotard is safer or faster than the Streetfighter, because calibration, tires, setup and rider inputs also matter.

The RVE sits within the 950 family rather than being a completely different motorcycle concept. Ducati’s technical information groups the standard 950 and RVE with the adjustable Marzocchi/Sachs suspension arrangement. Confirm the precise weight, graphics, market equipment and model year with a dealer before comparing an RVE against a specific Streetfighter V2. The published seat-height and weight figures for the standard bike should not automatically be assigned to the RVE.
Hypermotard 950 SP
The SP is the chassis-focused version. Ducati lists a fully adjustable 48 mm Öhlins fork with 185 mm of travel and an Öhlins rear shock with 175 mm of travel. It also receives a flat motard-style saddle and forged Marchesini wheels. The listed seat height rises to 890 mm, and Ducati makes Ducati Quick Shift standard on the SP.

Those changes suit a rider who specifically wants the family’s most specialized suspension and the visual and functional details associated with a motard setup. They also make the SP a less forgiving fit for shorter inseams. Treat its 890 mm seat as a separate buying decision, not a minor option on the standard 870 mm motorcycle.
Streetfighter V2 family: a lower sport-naked approach
Streetfighter V2 standard
Ducati’s current Streetfighter V2 page is labeled MY25 and describes an 890 cc 90-degree V2 with variable intake valve timing. The listed output is 120 hp at 10,750 rpm and 93.3 Nm at 8,250 rpm. The standard motorcycle is listed at 178 kg wet without fuel and an 838 mm seat height.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIts hardware includes a fully adjustable Marzocchi fork and Kayaba rear shock. Ducati also lists a six-axis inertial measurement unit, Cornering ABS, traction control, wheelie control, Ducati Quick Shift 2.0, four riding modes and a 5-inch TFT. Before ordering, verify that the MY25 designation and equipment apply to the model year and region offered to you; Ducati can vary launch timing and specification by market.
Streetfighter V2 S
The S retains the 890 cc engine and the listed 838 mm seat height but is listed at 175 kg wet without fuel. Its suspension changes to Öhlins fork and shock. The three-kilogram catalog difference is a trim specification, not proof that one version will feel lighter in every maneuver. Tire choice, fuel level, setup and rider position all affect the experience.
Engine figures: what the numbers do and do not tell you
On paper, the Streetfighter has the higher peak-power figure: 120 hp versus 114 hp. The Hypermotard has the higher peak-torque figure: 96 Nm versus 93.3 Nm. Their peaks also occur at different engine speeds. The 950 reaches its listed power peak at 9,000 rpm and torque peak at 7,250 rpm; the Streetfighter reaches those peaks at 10,750 rpm and 8,250 rpm.

That is a description of the published curves’ headline points, not a ride-quality verdict. Peak output does not reveal throttle mapping, gearing, low-rpm response, heat management, clutch feel or how much time you spend near the peak. The Streetfighter’s variable intake valve timing is a stated engine feature, while the Hypermotard’s larger displacement and lower listed torque peak suggest a different specification emphasis. Only a back-to-back ride on the exact motorcycles can tell you which response you prefer.
Recommended Free Tools
- Pick the Hypermotard engine concept if you value the family’s 937 cc configuration and its stated torque peak at a lower rpm, while accepting the taller chassis.
- Pick the Streetfighter engine concept if the newer 890 cc V2, variable intake valve timing and higher catalogued peak power appeal to your sport-naked brief.
- Do not infer fuel economy or range from displacement or power. Ducati’s cited pages do not establish independent consumption figures for this comparison.
Riding position and fit: the decision most riders feel immediately
Why the Hypermotard feels like the taller choice
The 870 mm standard seat and 890 mm SP seat place the rider high relative to the Streetfighter’s 838 mm listing. The trellis frame, 70-degree steering angle and wide-handlebar design are consistent with an upright, motard-style posture. That can give a rider more room to move and a commanding view, but a tall seat also increases the distance your foot must travel at a stop.
Why the Streetfighter may be easier to reach
The standard and S Streetfighter V2 are both listed at 838 mm. That lower published height can make stops less intimidating for some riders, while the sports-oriented ergonomics may place more emphasis on the relationship between the tank, bars and footrests. Seat shape, suspension sag, boot sole and inseam length alter the real reach, so the number alone cannot establish comfort.
Use a fit check instead of guessing
- Ask to sit on the exact trim and model year, not a visually similar display bike.
- Wear the boots and riding trousers you actually use; thick soles can change your reach.
- Check that you can operate the sidestand and move the motorcycle backward without stretching or twisting.
- Test both feet and a one-foot stop. Many riders do not need both heels flat, but they do need a controlled, repeatable stop.
- If the motorcycle will carry luggage or a passenger, repeat the check with the intended load and ask the dealer how sag is set.
Suspension and chassis: standard, RVE, SP and S are not equivalent
The Hypermotard 950 and RVE use the Marzocchi/Sachs arrangement listed above, while the SP moves to larger Öhlins units and longer travel. The Streetfighter standard uses Marzocchi/Kayaba, and the S uses Öhlins. “Öhlins” or “fully adjustable” identifies equipment; it does not guarantee a setup that suits your weight, roads or riding pace straight from the showroom.
Longer travel and a tall stance are relevant to the Hypermotard’s design intent. The Streetfighter’s specification is organized around a sport-naked package rather than a motard-style chassis. If you ride mostly smooth pavement and want to tune suspension for fast road riding, compare the adjusters and the dealer’s setup support on the exact trims. If your routes include broken urban surfaces, ask for a setup demonstration rather than assuming one motorcycle will automatically absorb them better.

Electronics and displays: compare the named systems, not the count
| System or control | Hypermotard 950 family | Streetfighter V2 family |
|---|---|---|
| Cornering braking support | Bosch Cornering ABS EVO with Slide by Brake | Cornering ABS |
| Traction control | Ducati lists riding-control electronics; the cited feature list does not name a separate traction-control label | Traction control listed |
| Wheelie control | Ducati Wheelie Control EVO | Wheelie control |
| Quickshifter | Standard on SP; not stated as standard for every family version | Ducati Quick Shift 2.0 listed |
| Riding modes | Sport, Touring and Urban | Four modes listed |
| Inertial measurement unit | Not stated in the cited Hypermotard feature summary | Six-axis IMU listed |
| Instrument screen | 4.3-inch TFT | 5-inch TFT |
The different labels and feature lists should not be turned into a ranking. A six-axis IMU or an additional riding mode can be valuable to a particular rider, but behavior depends on software calibration and settings. Ask the dealer to demonstrate mode selection, ABS intervention levels and quickshifter operation before deciding that a longer feature list is automatically the better motorcycle.
Weight, parking and low-speed use
Ducati lists the standard Streetfighter V2 at 178 kg wet without fuel and the S at 175 kg. The standard Hypermotard 950 is listed at 193 kg in the same without-fuel wet-weight format. These are not dry weights, and the RVE and SP figures differ from the standard Hypermotard. Because the measurement convention and trim matter, do not describe the Streetfighter as categorically lighter than the entire Hypermotard family.
A catalogued weight difference can affect pushing the bike into a garage, recovering it from a camber and holding it at a stop, but the rider’s leverage and seat height matter just as much. Sit on both, turn the bars fully, and perform a controlled walk-around before using the table as a deciding factor.

A practical buying process
1. Lock down the comparison
Write down the model year, country, trim and intended passenger or luggage use for each candidate. The current Streetfighter page is labeled MY25, while the Hypermotard information covers a family of 950, RVE and SP versions. A dealer quote that omits one of those details is not a reliable head-to-head comparison.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
2. Confirm what is actually included
Ask for a written equipment sheet showing suspension brand, quickshifter status, display, rider aids, wheels and the listed wet weight. This prevents an SP or S feature from being accidentally attributed to a standard bike.

3. Complete the fit check
Use the five-step procedure above on both motorcycles. Pay particular attention to the 890 mm Hypermotard SP if you are considering it; its seat is materially different from the standard 950 listing.
4. Request a controlled demonstration ride
Ride the same route, in the same weather, with the same tire pressures and comparable electronic settings. Include a stop-start section, a tight turn, a faster open section and a rough patch if the dealer permits it. Note reach, clutch effort, heat, wind exposure and whether the bars and foot controls suit your joints. Those observations are your evidence; the specification sheet cannot supply them.
5. Price the real purchase locally
No price, inventory position or promotion is established here. Obtain a current local quotation that separates motorcycle MSRP, destination or documentation charges, registration, taxes, accessories and dealer-installed options. Also verify licensing restrictions, insurance requirements, warranty terms and the model year on the vehicle identification paperwork.

- Declaring the Streetfighter the winner because it has 120 hp. Its peak-power advantage does not answer the posture, fit or low-speed questions.
- Calling every Hypermotard seat 870 mm. Ducati lists 890 mm for the SP; the standard and RVE must be checked by exact specification.
- Assuming the Streetfighter is always lighter. Compare standard with standard or S with SP and keep the “wet without fuel” qualification attached.
- Comparing suspension labels without naming trims. Standard, RVE, SP and S do not share the same fork and shock hardware.
- Treating electronics count as a safety ranking. The named systems differ, but the pages do not establish a comparative safety result.
- Using catalog figures as road-test data. Ducati’s horsepower, torque, weight and seat numbers are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements.
- Assuming global availability. Confirm the region, current model year, stock and final price with an authorized local seller.
Verdict: which one is better for you?
The Hypermotard 950 is the better match for a rider who wants the motorcycle’s tall, upright, motard-style character and is comfortable choosing among standard, RVE and SP seat and suspension variations. The standard 937 cc engine, 870 mm seat and 193 kg listed wet weight define the baseline; the SP moves to an 890 mm seat, Öhlins suspension, longer travel, forged wheels and standard quickshifting.
The Streetfighter V2 is the better match for a rider who wants a lower 838 mm seat, a sport-oriented naked-bike position and Ducati’s current 890 cc V2/electronics package. The standard is listed at 178 kg wet without fuel, while the S is 175 kg and adds Öhlins suspension. Its 120 hp headline is meaningful only as a catalog comparison, not as a guarantee that every rider will find it more exciting.
If your priorities are evenly split, do not choose from the table alone. Sit on the exact trims, ride them back-to-back and get a local quote for the same model year. Your riding position, inseam confidence and intended roads should decide the final answer.
