1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsChoose the Ducati Hypermotard 950 if you want an upright, motard-style motorcycle with a tall stance, wide-bar control and lower stated mass. Choose the Ducati SuperSport 950 if you want a lower sport-touring position, more built-in wind protection and an easier reach to the ground. Neither is universally better. The right answer depends on your inseam, roads, passenger plans and tolerance for wind exposure.
The figures below compare the standard Hypermotard 950 and standard SuperSport 950 on Ducati’s US specifications accessed October 13, 2026. Ducati says equipment and specifications can vary by market, model year and trim, so verify the exact motorcycle offered in your country before buying.

The short answer: match the bike to the ride you actually do
These motorcycles share a 937 cc Testastretta 11° L-twin, but they are designed around different rider priorities. Ducati presents the Hypermotard as a motard-inspired machine: the rider sits upright, uses a wide handlebar and moves around the motorcycle with leverage and visibility. The SuperSport is Ducati’s sport-touring interpretation, combining a forward-leaning road-bike posture with an adjustable windscreen and provisions for longer road work.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →That makes the decision relatively clear:
- Pick the Hypermotard 950 for urban riding, tight back roads, frequent standing or body movement, and a high, commanding view. Its lower listed mass and taller ergonomics favor riders who value quick changes of direction and leverage more than weather protection.
- Pick the SuperSport 950 for fast paved-road trips, commuting where wind fatigue matters, and riders who need a substantially lower seat. Its fairing, adjustable screen and sport-touring layout make it the more natural choice for sustained highway use.
- Do not choose from horsepower alone. Ducati’s quoted peak figures differ, but they are manufacturer ratings rather than independent dyno or road-test results. They do not prove that one bike accelerates, handles or feels faster in every situation.
If you can, sit on and ride both before paying a deposit. Seat shape, reach to the bars, knee angle, clutch effort, wind pressure and your confidence at low speed can outweigh a specification-sheet advantage.

Exactly which versions are being compared?
“Hypermotard 950” is a family name, not one universal specification. Ducati’s range includes the standard model, the RVE and the higher-specification SP. The SuperSport range includes the standard 950 and the 950 S. The table uses only the US-market standard Hypermotard 950 and standard SuperSport 950 unless a variant is identified.
Ducati’s current website has moved its Hypermotard presence toward the newer Hypermotard V2. That is a different motorcycle. Do not substitute V2 figures for the 950 figures in this comparison, and do not assume a used bike from another year has identical equipment.
Published standard-model specifications
| Item | Hypermotard 950 standard | SuperSport 950 standard | How to read it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Engine | 937 cc Testastretta 11° L-twin | 937 cc Testastretta 11° L-twin | Same displacement and engine family; calibration, intake, exhaust and chassis context still affect the riding experience. |
| Claimed peak power | 114 hp at 9,000 rpm | 110 hp at 9,000 rpm | Ducati manufacturer figures, not independent dyno results. |
| Claimed peak torque | 96 Nm at 7,250 rpm | 93 Nm at 6,500 rpm | Manufacturer figures; they do not describe the complete torque curve. |
| Listed wet weight | 193 kg (425 lb), wet weight without fuel | 205 kg (452 lb), wet weight without fuel | The stated basis is identical, so the Hypermotard is 12 kg (27 lb) lighter on Ducati’s figures. Fuel is excluded. |
| Seat height | 870 mm (34.2 in) | 810 mm (31.9 in) | The Hypermotard is 60 mm (2.4 in) taller by the published measure; seat shape and rider proportions still determine actual reach. |
| Fuel capacity | 14.5 L | 16 L | A tank-size comparison only. No fuel-consumption or range claim is established here. |
| Seats | Two-seat motorcycle | Two-seat motorcycle | Passenger usability depends on the exact trim, accessories and the passenger’s tolerance for the riding position. |
| Listed rider aids | Riding modes, cornering ABS, traction control and wheelie control | Riding modes, cornering ABS, traction control and wheelie control | Names and standard equipment can vary by year, market and trim; confirm the individual motorcycle. |
| Windscreen and shifting | No adjustable touring screen is listed for the standard comparison | Adjustable windscreen and Ducati Quick Shift listed | These are important differences for highway comfort and clutch use in traffic. |

Engine and performance: what the numbers do—and do not—tell you
Both bikes use the same displacement and basic engine family, so the comparison is not about choosing a small engine against a large one. The Hypermotard has the higher quoted peak power and torque, while the SuperSport’s torque peak is listed at a lower engine speed. Those figures suggest different calibration priorities, but a peak number cannot reveal throttle response, gearing, traction, heat management or how much of the engine’s output you can use on your roads.
The Hypermotard’s upright leverage can make a moderate road speed feel energetic because you have a broad view and a large steering input available. That is a description of the riding position, not a claim of measured acceleration. The SuperSport’s fairing and lower torso position can make high-speed progress feel calmer, but wind protection can also mask speed. Neither conclusion is a substitute for a controlled test ride.

When the Hypermotard’s character makes sense
- Short, technical roads where rapid steering inputs and a commanding view matter.
- City streets with frequent junctions, speed changes and low-speed manoeuvres.
- Riders who prefer to sit tall and move their upper body rather than lock into a conventional sport-bike crouch.
- Owners who value the lightest stated package of these two standard motorcycles.
When the SuperSport’s character makes sense
- Open roads where wind pressure and sustained speed are major fatigue factors.
- Riders who want a sport-bike feel without the extreme ergonomics of a full supersport.
- Commuters who will use the adjustable screen and quickshifter frequently.
- Trips where the larger stated tank capacity is useful, while recognizing that actual range depends on consumption, route and riding style.
Ergonomics and rider fit
The seat-height gap is the most consequential specification difference for many buyers. The Hypermotard’s seat is substantially higher, while the SuperSport’s seat is lower and integrated into a more conventional road-bike silhouette. A lower seat can improve confidence when stopping, but it does not guarantee a perfect fit: seat width, suspension sag, boot sole thickness and the distance to the bars and footpegs all change the effective reach.
Ducati describes the 950-generation Hypermotard’s posture this way: “The ergonomics of this motard-inspired bike, ensures the rider maintains an erect riding position with wide elbows, which translates into maximum levels of reaction and control whatever the conditions.” That is the manufacturer’s product description, published in a 2021 release, not an independent test conclusion; the page now redirects toward newer Hypermotard material. You can read the original Ducati wording on its Hypermotard 950 SP release.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Use your inseam as a starting point, not a verdict
- Put both feet on the pegs and check whether your knees are cramped or excessively bent.
- With the motorcycle upright, move one foot to the ground and check whether you can support the bike without leaning your torso far away from the bars.
- Turn the bars fully left and right. Make sure your wrists, knees and hips remain comfortable and that the tank does not interfere with your preferred stopping position.
- Repeat the check wearing the boots and riding gear you will actually use. Thick soles can change confidence on the taller motorcycle.
- Ask the dealer to demonstrate any factory low seat or suspension option for the exact year. Do not assume an accessory from one trim fits another.
A rider who can manage the Hypermotard’s height may appreciate the extra room and leverage. A shorter rider may still prefer it after a test ride, while a tall rider may find the lower SuperSport comfortable if the bars and pegs suit their proportions. Height alone cannot settle the choice.
Weight, fuel and low-speed practicality
Ducati lists the Hypermotard as lighter on the same “wet weight without fuel” basis. That distinction matters: adding fuel, luggage, accessories and a passenger changes the scale reading. The lighter published figure can help during parking-lot manoeuvres and direction changes, but it does not establish a measured handling advantage. Chassis geometry, tire choice, suspension setup and rider input remain important.
The SuperSport has the larger stated tank. That may reduce the frequency of fuel stops for a given consumption rate, but Ducati’s pages cited here do not provide a directly comparable economy figure. Do not convert capacity into a claimed riding range. Local fuel, traffic, speed and luggage can alter consumption substantially.

Parking and everyday manoeuvres
The SuperSport’s lower seat may be easier when reversing or paddling the motorcycle backward. The Hypermotard’s tall seat gives a better view over traffic for some riders, but a tiptoe stop can make a sloped driveway or loose surface more stressful. Practice both motorcycles with the engine off before a purchase, especially if your garage has a ramp or uneven floor.

Chassis, suspension and trim differences
Do not apply one wheel-travel figure to every Hypermotard 950. Ducati lists 170 mm front and 150 mm rear travel for the standard and RVE versions. The SP is listed with 185 mm front and 175 mm rear travel, Öhlins suspension and Marchesini forged wheels. Those are variant-level differences, not reasons to assume every SP feature appears on a standard bike.
The SuperSport 950 S adds Öhlins suspension and a passenger-seat cowl to its listed standard equipment. The cowl changes the passenger arrangement, so confirm whether the motorcycle you are viewing is configured for two-up use. The standard SuperSport remains the appropriate reference for the table above.
How to identify the right used-bike specification
- Read the VIN-linked equipment list or original sales invoice rather than relying on a seller’s abbreviated model name.
- Check for Öhlins components and forged wheels before assuming a Hypermotard is an SP.
- Confirm whether a SuperSport is the standard 950 or 950 S, and whether a passenger seat or cowl is installed.
- Match suspension settings and service records to the motorcycle’s exact year; parts and calibration can change without changing the family name.
Equipment and electronic aids
Both standard motorcycles are listed with riding modes, cornering ABS, traction control and wheelie control. These systems can support different skill levels, but their intervention settings, menus and names may vary by market and model year. Learn the controls before riding aggressively, and never treat an electronic aid as permission to exceed road, tire or weather limits.
The SuperSport specification specifically lists an adjustable windscreen and Ducati Quick Shift. A screen that can be repositioned lets you trade airflow for visibility, while a quickshifter can reduce clutch use during acceleration. Neither feature removes the need to use the clutch for starts, stops and situations where a smooth manual shift is safer.

The standard Hypermotard’s appeal is less about touring hardware and more about the open, upright cockpit. Accessory screens, heated grips or multimedia equipment may exist for particular years, but fitment and compatibility must be confirmed through an authorized Ducati program for your exact trim. Do not price an accessory into your decision until you have verified installation, wiring and warranty implications.
Which one suits common riding jobs?
| Riding job | More natural starting point | Reasoning and caveat |
|---|---|---|
| Urban commuting | Hypermotard 950 | The upright view and broad-bar control suit frequent low-speed changes. The tall seat can reverse the decision for a rider who is uncomfortable stopping on uneven ground. |
| Motorway or fast dual-carriageway trips | SuperSport 950 | The adjustable windscreen and sport-touring bodywork address airflow. Actual comfort depends on your torso length, screen position, weather and helmet. |
| Twisty back roads | Either, based on preference | Choose the Hypermotard for upright leverage and movement; choose the SuperSport for a lower, more conventional sport-bike connection. No independent handling comparison is established here. |
| Regular passenger use | Check the exact trim first | Both are listed as two-seat motorcycles, but the SuperSport 950 S’s cowl and the individual seat/accessory configuration can change practicality. |
| Occasional track sessions | Neither is automatically “the track bike” | Choose according to the circuit, your coaching and setup support. The available specifications do not establish lap-time performance or track suitability. |
| Mixed-weather touring | SuperSport 950 | Its listed screen gives it a useful starting advantage against wind. Neither model’s weather protection, luggage capacity or long-distance comfort has been independently measured in the supplied material. |
Maintenance and ownership questions
Ducati’s US pages list the same headline service schedule for both motorcycles: routine service at 9,000 miles (15,000 km) or 12 months, with a valve-clearance check listed at 18,000 miles (30,000 km). These are intervals, not prices. They do not predict labor rates, parts cost, dealer availability, insurance, depreciation or total cost of ownership in your area.
Before buying new or used, obtain a written estimate from a local authorized dealer. Ask what the annual service includes, whether the valve check is due by time as well as distance, and what the warranty requires. A motorcycle that is cheaper to purchase can still cost more to keep if support is distant or scheduled work is overdue.
Ownership checks that can change the decision
- Dealer distance: confirm who can diagnose the electronics and perform scheduled valve work.
- Insurance: obtain quotes using the exact model, trim, year and declared use; premiums are not interchangeable between the two families.
- Ergonomic accessories: verify the availability and legality of low seats, bar changes, screens and passenger equipment before relying on them to solve a fit issue.
- Used-bike history: request invoices, software updates, recall completion and evidence of time-based services, not only odometer readings.
- Availability: current inventory and pricing were not established by the specifications cited here, so check your local market rather than using an old advertisement.
A practical decision process before you buy
- Define your dominant route. Write down the percentage of city streets, open highway, winding roads and two-up riding you expect. Pick the motorcycle that serves the largest share, not the most exciting five percent.
- Set a fit requirement. Decide whether you need confident flat-footing, a narrow seat, a relaxed knee angle or a forward sport-bike reach. Test in full gear.
- Compare standard against standard. If a dealer offers an RVE, SP or 950 S, record the trim before comparing suspension, wheels, seat, cowl or electronics.
- Ride the same route. Use identical tire pressures recommended for each motorcycle and include a slow U-turn, rough pavement, a steady-speed section and several corners. Keep notes immediately after each ride.
- Check the wind and heat. Move the SuperSport screen through its positions and assess airflow at your normal speed. On the Hypermotard, note whether the exposed posture is acceptable for your commute.
- Price the complete purchase. Add registration, insurance, first service, protective gear and any genuinely required ergonomic equipment. Leave unknown local costs as unknown until a dealer confirms them.
- Recheck the exact specification. Compare the VIN, model year, equipment list and warranty terms with the figures you used. Ducati warns that equipment and specifications can vary by market.
Common comparison mistakes
Mistake 1: treating four horsepower as a winner
The Hypermotard’s quoted peak output is higher, but peak power is only one point on an engine curve. Without independent acceleration, dyno and road data, it is not valid to call it definitively faster.
Mistake 2: using seat height as the whole fit analysis
A lower seat can help at a stop, yet a wide seat may increase the effective reach. Conversely, the taller motorcycle may suit a rider whose proportions and riding boots provide enough support. Sit on both with the suspension loaded.

Mistake 3: mixing trims
SP suspension and forged wheels, RVE equipment, or SuperSport S hardware can make a showroom comparison look like a model-versus-model verdict when it is actually a trim-versus-trim comparison.
Mistake 4: assuming tank size equals range
Capacity is not consumption. Until comparable economy data and your route are known, describe the SuperSport as having the larger stated tank, not guaranteed longer range.
Mistake 5: treating manufacturer language as test data
Ducati’s description of upright control explains its design intent. It does not replace an independent assessment of comfort, cornering speed, passenger experience or weather protection.
Verdict: which Ducati is better for you?
The Hypermotard 950 is the better fit for a rider who wants an upright, expressive motorcycle, accepts a tall seat and values leverage, visibility and the lighter published package. The SuperSport 950 is the better fit for a rider who wants a lower seat, adjustable wind protection and a sport-touring posture for longer paved-road rides.
For an undecided buyer, the most defensible choice is not the motorcycle with the bigger headline number. It is the one that lets you stop securely, hold your preferred pace without fatigue and use the majority of your roads. Confirm the year, market and trim, then let a back-to-back test ride settle the remaining questions.
