Ducati Diavel V4 or Harley-Davidson Road Glide: Which Motorcycle Fits Your Ride?

The Ducati Diavel V4 favors sportier performance and a lighter power-cruiser format, while the 2026 Harley-Davidson Road Glide is built for long-distance touring. This guide compares their published specs, ergonomics, technology, luggage, pricing caveats and real-world use cases.

Choose the Ducati Diavel V4 if performance, acceleration and a more agile power-cruiser format matter most. Choose the Harley-Davidson Road Glide if you plan long highway days and want built-in wind management, touring equipment and a purpose-designed passenger-and-luggage platform. Neither motorcycle is objectively “better.” They solve different problems, and the published figures come from different model years and measurement standards, so a direct spec-sheet winner would be misleading.

Start with the kind of riding you actually do

The Diavel V4 and Road Glide occupy very different parts of the motorcycle world. Ducati describes the Diavel V4 as a machine for sport riding, strong acceleration and mid-range touring. Harley-Davidson positions the Road Glide as a long-distance touring motorcycle, highlighting its fixed fairing, rider comfort and highway equipment. Those are manufacturer descriptions rather than independent test conclusions, but they accurately frame the buying decision.

For short, lively rides on winding roads, the Diavel’s lower published mass, higher peak horsepower and upright power-cruiser layout make more sense. For multi-day trips, interstate travel, a passenger, and carrying gear, the Road Glide’s fairing, touring seat, adjustable bars, integrated display and established luggage space are more relevant than peak horsepower.

Choose the Diavel V4 when these priorities lead

  • Strong acceleration and a sportier engine character are more important than maximum touring protection.
  • You prefer a motorcycle that is easier to move around at low speed than a large touring platform.
  • Your typical ride is a few hours rather than an entire day on the interstate.
  • You want a distinctive power-cruiser design and are comfortable adding touring equipment as needed.

Choose the Road Glide when these priorities lead

  • You regularly ride long highway distances in changing weather.
  • A fixed fairing, windshield, touring seat and integrated electronics should be standard equipment.
  • You carry a passenger or need substantial luggage for overnight and multi-day travel.
  • You value relaxed cruising and highway comfort more than the highest published horsepower figure.

Published specifications, with the qualifications attached

The following table puts the available figures in one place. Ducati’s detailed numbers come from its October 2022 launch announcement for the 2023 Diavel V4. Harley-Davidson’s performance, seat-height, fuel-economy and price figures come from its U.S. 2026 Road Glide page. The Road Glide weight and luggage figure are from Harley-Davidson’s 2025 specification page and are included only as context.

Do not subtract 491.6 lb from 838 lb and present the result as a precise advantage. Ducati’s figure excludes fuel, while Harley’s figure is an in-running-order value from a different model year. Fuel load, equipment, fluids and the manufacturer’s measurement method can all change the comparison.

Engine character: horsepower is only one part of the answer

Diavel V4: the performance-led choice

Ducati lists 168 horsepower at 10,750 rpm from the 1,158 cc V4 Granturismo and 93 ft-lb (126 Nm) at 7,500 rpm. On paper, that is a substantial horsepower advantage over the Road Glide’s published 105 hp. The Diavel’s peak-power figure also arrives at a higher engine speed, which fits its sport-oriented mission and encourages a more active relationship with the throttle and rev range.

Ducati says the updated Diavel V4 delivers dynamic performance, impressive acceleration and deceleration, sport-riding capability and the ability to cruise at low speeds. That wording is the manufacturer’s characterization, not an independent acceleration test. It does, however, explain why the Diavel appeals to riders who want a cruiser silhouette without giving up a distinctly performance-focused engine.

Road Glide: torque and relaxed progress

Harley-Davidson lists 105 hp and 130 ft-lb for the 2026 Road Glide’s Milwaukee-Eight 117. The torque figure is higher than Ducati’s published peak torque, and the Road Glide is designed around relaxed, sustained travel rather than chasing the highest horsepower number. Peak torque alone does not predict which motorcycle will feel quicker in every gear or situation; gearing, throttle calibration, engine speed, rider input, traction and total loaded mass all matter.

The practical distinction is intent. The Diavel invites brisk changes of pace and spirited road riding. The Road Glide’s engine specification supports steady highway travel, passing power and carrying a touring load. A test ride that includes low-speed traffic, a highway merge and an uphill section will tell you more about the character you prefer than a single peak figure.

Weight, seat height and low-speed confidence

Published ergonomics strongly affect daily confidence, but the two companies do not present their measurements in the same way. Ducati gives the Diavel V4 a 790 mm (31.1 in) seat height and a 223 kg (491.6 lb) curb weight without fuel. Harley-Davidson lists a 26.6-inch laden seat height for the 2026 Road Glide and, on its 2025 page, 838 lb in running order.

The Road Glide’s lower stated seat height can make it easier for a shorter rider to reach the ground, yet the motorcycle’s much larger touring mass still affects parking, reversing and tight turns. Seat height is only one part of fit: seat width, suspension sag, bar reach, footboard position and where the mass sits can change how secure a bike feels.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What to check at a showroom

  1. Put both feet down in your normal riding boots and note whether the seat forces your legs wide.
  2. Reach the bars without locking your elbows or leaning your torso forward.
  3. With the engine off, walk each motorcycle backward on level ground. This reveals practical mass and balance better than a brochure number.
  4. Turn the bars fully in both directions and check whether your knees, wrists or controls feel cramped.
  5. Ask to sit with a passenger or luggage fitted if that is how you will normally ride.

Because the Diavel and Road Glide figures use different bases, treat them as orientation rather than a laboratory comparison. Your own ability to stop, paddle through a parking lot and place a foot securely matters more than a calculated weight gap.

Wind protection and weather management

The Road Glide’s frame-mounted Sharknose fairing and windshield are central to its purpose. Harley-Davidson says the 2026 model is made for long-distance touring and highlights improved aerodynamics and reduced weight for easy handling. That statement is marketing copy from the manufacturer, not an independent aerodynamic measurement, but the fixed fairing still provides a type of wind and weather management that the Diavel’s open layout does not.

On the Road Glide, the fairing can reduce the continuous wind load on your chest and arms during highway travel. It also creates a more enclosed cockpit for colder mornings and wet conditions, although no fairing eliminates the need for appropriate clothing or guarantees a quiet airflow for every rider.

  • ✅【360° FREE ROTATION】 - With an adjustable swivel ball joint, you can rotate your smartphone or device at your own will, providing the best viewing angle. Quickly pick and place with one hand, free your hands and make calls and GPS navigation more convenient

The Diavel’s power-cruiser format leaves you more exposed. That can be an advantage on warm local rides, where airflow and a clear view of the road are welcome. At sustained interstate speeds, however, the rider supplies more of the weather protection through riding gear and body position. Optional screens and touring accessories may change the experience, so check the exact configuration rather than assuming every Diavel is equipped the same way.

Touring equipment, displays and luggage

Road Glide equipment is integrated from the start

The 2026 Road Glide includes Harley-Davidson’s Skyline OS and a 12.3-inch display. The motorcycle also has a frame-mounted fairing, a touring seat and handlebars with 27 degrees of adjustability. Those features reduce the number of aftermarket decisions a long-distance rider has to make before a trip. The 2025 specification page lists 2.42 cubic feet of luggage capacity, which is useful context for planning, but confirm the exact cases and capacity on the 2026 motorcycle you are pricing.

A large display can make navigation, audio and vehicle information easier to read, but it also adds interface complexity. Spend time in the menus while stationary and ask whether the controls are usable with gloves. The right question is not simply whether the screen is larger; it is whether you can change the functions you use without taking attention from the road.

Diavel technology keeps the bike compact

The Diavel V4 has a 5-inch color TFT and Bluetooth connectivity. Ducati lists an accessory turn-by-turn navigation option rather than treating navigation as the same standard touring package described for the Road Glide. This keeps the core motorcycle more visually compact and lets an owner add equipment according to need.

For occasional touring, that approach can be sensible: add the navigation or luggage you will actually use, then keep the bike light and uncluttered for local rides. For frequent touring, price the accessories, installation and storage before deciding that the lower equipment commitment is an advantage. Ducati’s U.S. accessories catalog lists a Diavel V4 rear bag; verify current fitment and availability with a dealer before ordering because catalog status can change.

Passenger comfort and carrying practicalities

A Road Glide is designed around long-distance travel, so its touring seat, fairing and available luggage make it the more natural starting point for two-up trips. The 2.42-cubic-foot luggage figure published for the 2025 model provides a useful reference for packing, but do not assume the same capacity or equipment on every trim or model year without checking the build sheet.

The Diavel can be equipped for touring, yet its standard identity is a sport-oriented power cruiser. If you normally ride alone with a small bag, that may be exactly what you want. If you regularly carry a passenger, rain gear, tools and several days of clothing, compare the complete accessory configuration rather than the base motorcycle. Passenger footpeg position, back support, luggage mounting and the effect of added weight on suspension setup all deserve a showroom inspection.

Price: compare current motorcycles, not mismatched headlines

Harley-Davidson’s U.S. 2026 Road Glide page lists a starting MSRP of $25,999 or more. The “+” matters: the final price can change with configuration, destination, setup, taxes, registration, dealer charges and local inventory.

Ducati’s U.S. launch announcement for the 2023 Diavel V4 listed $26,695 for Ducati Red and $26,995 for Thrilling Black. Those are historical launch MSRPs announced in 2022 for expected 2023 availability. They are not a current 2026 Ducati quote, so they cannot establish a present-day price winner against the Road Glide.

Build an apples-to-apples quote

  1. Ask each dealer for the exact model year, trim, color and standard equipment in writing.
  2. List freight, destination, setup, documentation, taxes, registration and any mandatory fees separately.
  3. Add the touring equipment you would need on each bike: luggage, navigation, wind protection, passenger provisions and security accessories.
  4. Use the same payment assumptions if financing, and keep insurance and gear as separate ownership decisions.
  5. Check whether the quoted motorcycle is physically available; a published starting price is not a promise of local inventory.

Only after those steps can you compare out-the-door totals. The available figures do not establish a current, nationwide cost-of-ownership or reliability advantage for either model.

Which one works better in common riding scenarios?

Weekend mountain roads

The Diavel is the more natural fit when the ride is defined by bends, repeated acceleration and a desire for a responsive, performance-led feel. Its 168-hp rating and lower published no-fuel mass support that role, although actual pace depends on the rider, tires, road and conditions. The Road Glide can travel through the same roads, but its touring equipment and greater running-order mass may be more motorcycle than you need for a two-hour loop.

Interstate travel across several states

The Road Glide’s fixed fairing, windshield, touring seat, adjustable handlebars and integrated 12.3-inch system address the problems that appear after several hours in the saddle. The Diavel can cover the distance, especially with accessories, but you should decide whether you want to add wind and luggage equipment or start with a touring platform.

Daily commuting

Neither motorcycle should be chosen from specifications alone for a daily commute. Measure your parking spaces, low-speed turns, traffic density and weather exposure. The Diavel’s open cockpit and performance focus may suit a shorter, more active route. The Road Glide’s protection and low laden seat may be preferable for a long freeway commute, but its size can be inconvenient in narrow parking structures.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Frequent two-up travel

Start with the Road Glide unless your passenger requirements are modest and you specifically prefer the Diavel’s character. Confirm passenger seating, footpeg comfort, luggage volume and suspension setup in person. A solo test ride cannot answer a two-up comfort question.

A test-ride plan that can settle the decision

  1. Fit both motorcycles first. Sit in your normal gear, check reach and foot placement, and practice walking each bike with the engine off.
  2. Ride a slow section. Include a U-turn, a stop on an incline and a tight parking maneuver. Notice steering effort and confidence, not just acceleration.
  3. Use a highway section when legal. Evaluate wind pressure, buffeting, mirrors, seat support and how naturally you can hold your lane.
  4. Try representative acceleration. Make a controlled merge or pass and compare how each engine delivers thrust. Do not infer a complete verdict from peak horsepower or torque.
  5. Test the controls. Operate the display, Bluetooth functions, navigation controls and handlebar adjustments while stationary before deciding whether the technology is intuitive.
  6. Repeat with the intended load. If you ride with a passenger or luggage, arrange a second evaluation with that load or at least sit on a properly equipped example.
  7. Get written current pricing. Match model year, equipment and all fees before comparing the final numbers.

Important limits of this comparison

  • The detailed Ducati specifications are for the 2023 Diavel V4 launch, while the principal Harley-Davidson figures are for the 2026 Road Glide.
  • The Diavel weight excludes fuel; the 838-lb Road Glide figure is an in-running-order value from the 2025 page. They are not interchangeable measurements.
  • Ducati’s prices are historical launch MSRPs, while Harley-Davidson’s price is a current listed starting MSRP that can change.
  • No independent head-to-head acceleration, handling, reliability, ownership-cost or market-survey result is established here.
  • Published seat heights are also presented differently: Ducati gives a stated seat-height specification, while Harley-Davidson gives a laden figure. Actual reach depends on the rider and motorcycle setup.

The practical verdict

The Diavel V4 is the better match for a rider who wants a dramatic, sport-oriented power cruiser, values acceleration and intends to keep touring requirements moderate or selectively accessorized. Its published 168-hp output, 1,158-cc V4 and 223-kg no-fuel curb weight point toward that mission, while its 5-inch display, Bluetooth and optional navigation leave room to configure the bike for longer rides.

The Road Glide is the better match for a rider who sees the motorcycle as long-distance transportation first. Its fixed Sharknose fairing, touring seat, adjustable handlebars, Skyline OS 12.3-inch display and available luggage address wind management, comfort and organization before you add anything. The 2026 model’s 105-hp and 130-ft-lb figures describe a different performance priority rather than an inferior engine.

Make the final choice after sitting on both, riding both at low speed and highway speed, and comparing current out-the-door quotes with the accessories you genuinely need. The best motorcycle is the one whose protection, fit, load capacity and engine character match the miles you will actually ride.
