The company says it can reach up to 43 mph and run for four hours at moderate speeds; those are manufacturer claims, not independently verified test results. “Jet ski” is a useful comparison, but “stand-up electric hydrofoil” is the more precise description.
How an electric hydrofoil rides above the water
An electric hydrofoil uses submerged wings, or foils, to generate lift as the craft moves forward. That lift raises much of the hull or board clear of the surface, reducing the amount of craft moving through the water. The foils remain in the water: the craft does not literally levitate or fly through the air.
Electric propulsion supplies the forward motion. The reviewed products describe electric motors rather than a water-jet pump, so the phrase “electric foil jet ski” should be read as familiar shorthand, not as a precise description of every craft’s propulsion or legal category. The U.S. Coast Guard’s terminology distinguishes mechanically propelled personal hydrofoils, also called eFoils or electric hydrofoils, from mechanically propelled surfboards, also called jetboards. Read the Coast Guard’s Policy Letter 22-02, CH-1.
Which products match the dual-drive idea?
| Product | Form and propulsion | Availability described by manufacturer | Published performance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pelagion HydroBlade | Stand-up electric hydrofoil; Pelagion describes a steerable, dual-motor assembly. | Pelagion promotes preorders and test drives on its product page. | Pelagion claims up to 43 mph and four hours of operation at moderate speeds. The page does not provide an independent test protocol or results. |
| The Hydroflyer range | Board-style electric hydrofoils, a different format from a stand-up handled craft. The manufacturer lists several models. | The manufacturer lists models for sale; its page shows October 2026 delivery for two AL models and a two-month custom build for FF models. | The manufacturer describes FF models as 10,000-watt craft capable of over 60 km/h. It lists prices from $9,995 to $18,995. These are volatile manufacturer listings, not independent comparisons. |
| SharkX Electric Ultra AI | Presented by SharkX as an autonomous electric foil jet ski. | The company’s page presents a waitlist call to action, so it is better described as announced or upcoming than as a widely available production craft. | Speed and endurance figures are not stated on the reviewed product page. |
The specifications above are not directly comparable tests. The manufacturers do not establish common test conditions, and no independent comparative results are provided on the reviewed pages. Availability, pricing, delivery estimates, and product claims may change.

What “dual-drive” means here
For the HydroBlade, “dual-drive” refers to Pelagion’s description of its two-motor assembly. The page also promotes steering capability, distinguishing its pitch from a board-style eFoil typically controlled with a handheld remote. Pelagion founder and CEO Jamie Schlinkmann calls the design a tribute to the original Kawasaki Jet Ski “101 experience” and says the company wants to bring it to the electric personal-watercraft market. That is the manufacturer’s positioning, not evidence that the HydroBlade belongs to an established mass-market jet-ski category.
Other electric hydrofoil designs show the same lifting principle at a larger scale. Candela says its computer-controlled foils lift its boats above the surface and reduce energy use by 80%; that figure is the company’s claim about its vessels, not a result that can be transferred to personal watercraft. Candela describes its C-FOIL stabilization system and C-Pod direct-drive motor family on its technology page.

What U.S. riders should check before operating one
The Coast Guard’s Policy Letter 22-02, CH-1, dated October 5, 2022, says mechanically propelled personal hydrofoils and surfboards are vessels subject to laws and regulations for recreational vessels propelled by machinery. It discusses state numbering and a valid hull identification number, carrying a certificate of number, personal flotation device compliance, sound-producing devices, navigation rules and lighting where applicable, and engine-cutoff system requirements when such a system is installed.
The letter is U.S. guidance, not a substitute for applicable law. Requirements can depend on the state, locality, waterway, and craft configuration. Check the current rules where you intend to ride, and consult the Coast Guard policy letter for its detailed discussion.
