The Hayabusa ran 9.75 seconds at 147.02 mph; the Kawasaki ran 9.79 seconds at 144.47 mph. That result applies to those 2008 motorcycles—not to a current ZX-14R-versus-Hayabusa race. Current U.S. manufacturer specifications do not provide a directly comparable set of peak-output figures, and the bikes have different listed weights and launch aids.
Who won the measured quarter-mile?
In Cycle World’s March 1, 2008 comparison, the Hayabusa recorded the quicker best pass: 9.75 seconds at 147.02 mph. The ZX-14 ran 9.79 seconds at 144.47 mph; Cycle World noted that the Kawasaki’s time was corrected to sea level. The Suzuki’s margin was 0.04 second, with a higher trap speed. Cycle World described the bikes as running back-to-back under the same conditions, making this the clearest direct timed comparison available here. Cycle World’s comparison
This is a result for the 2008 ZX-14 and 2008 Hayabusa. The Kawasaki in that test predates the ZX-14R name and later model updates, so its elapsed time cannot establish which 2025 motorcycle is quicker.
What the current U.S. specifications say
The manufacturers’ 2025 listings offer useful context, but they are not a head-to-head test and do not establish a current drag-race winner.

The figures are not a complete apples-to-apples performance comparison: the Suzuki page supplies displacement and curb weight but not a peak horsepower figure comparable to Kawasaki’s stated output. Manufacturer-listed horsepower also should not be mixed with a magazine’s measured dyno result as if both were obtained by the same method.

What the 2008 dyno and road impressions add
In its discussion of the 2008 test bikes, Cycle World reported 173.4 hp for the Hayabusa on its dyno and said the tested Kawasaki was 10 hp down at peak. These are the magazine’s measurements of those particular motorcycles, not current manufacturer figures. Cycle World’s dyno discussion
The same road comparison described the Kawasaki as lighter-feeling and more neutral in steering, with smoother engine running. Cycle World said the Hayabusa felt slightly larger and had a longer reach to the handlebars. Those are the magazine’s qualitative impressions of the 2008 bikes, not measured performance specifications.

Why a standing-start result can change
A quarter-mile pass is not determined by peak power alone. Getting off the line cleanly and putting power down matters, and rider execution can make a difference in a standing-start race. Suzuki says the Hayabusa’s launch control assists acceleration from a standing start; Kawasaki lists KTRC and power modes. These features inform how a rider might set up a run, but their presence does not by itself predict elapsed time.
For a meaningful current comparison, both motorcycles would need to run with the same rider and a consistent procedure, with the surface, weather, tires, setup and preparation reported. No current same-day, same-track ZX-14R-versus-Hayabusa test is established here. A sanctioned closed course is the appropriate setting for drag racing; public roads are not a safe substitute.

Hayabusa details beyond the race
Suzuki’s 2025 U.S. listing also specifies a 20.0 L (5.3 U.S. gal.) fuel tank, 800 mm (31.5 in.) seat height, six-speed transmission, 120/70ZR17M/C front and 190/50ZR17M/C rear tires, and Brembo Stylema front brakes. Those details may help with a broader motorcycle comparison, but they do not demonstrate which bike would win a drag race. Suzuki’s 2025 Hayabusa specifications

Cycle World reported that both 2008 test bikes registered 186 mph on its radar gun, attributing that figure to the manufacturers’ self-imposed top-speed agreement at the time. It is historical reporting about those test motorcycles, not a current top-speed claim or evidence about quarter-mile performance. Cycle World’s 2008 report
