Yes—a Lexus LFA sold for more than $1 million. RM Sotheby’s recorded a $1,105,000 sale at its Monterey auction in 2023. The 2012 car was the 188th of 500 built and had 47 miles when catalogued. That result is real, but it does not mean every LFA sells for seven figures.

How much did the Lexus LFA sell for?

The headline result was $1,105,000 for a 2012 LFA at RM Sotheby’s Monterey sale in 2023. The auction catalog identified the car as serial number 188 of 500 and recorded 47 miles at cataloguing. Those details matter: this was a particular low-mileage car in a particular auction, not a universal price for the model.

Other recorded transactions show a wider range. Hagerty lists a 2012 LFA sold through Bring a Trailer for $910,611 on April 8, 2024, with 2,600 miles indicated, and a red 2012 LFA sold through Bring a Trailer for $780,000 on December 29, 2022. RM Sotheby’s records another 2012 LFA at $819,000 in Monterey in 2021, with under 3,850 miles indicated at cataloguing; its listing calls the car the 54th of 500.

These are selected individual sales, not a formal price index, and the available records do not supply the same information for every car. A fair comparison should account for sale date and venue, mileage and condition, and whether the example is a standard LFA or a Nürburgring Package car.

When did LFA production end, and how many were made?

Lexus says the final LFA left its Motomachi Plant in Aichi Prefecture on December 14, 2012. Production began December 15, 2010, at a pace of about one car per day, according to the company’s end-of-production announcement.

Lexus announced a worldwide production limit of 500. RM Sotheby’s catalog descriptions divide that total into 436 standard LFAs and 64 Nürburgring Package examples. The 2023 auction result came roughly a decade after production ended; the title’s “eight years” does not identify a documented transaction in the available records.

What did the LFA cost new?

On February 24, 2010, Lexus announced a U.S. manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $375,000 for the 2012 LFA, excluding delivery, processing, and handling. The announcement also stated that 500 cars would be built worldwide. The figure is the announced U.S. MSRP, not a claim about every market or each buyer’s final out-the-door price. Lexus’s release lists a 4.8-liter V10 rated at 552 horsepower at 8,700 rpm, a six-speed Automated Sequential Gearbox, and carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic construction for the chassis and bodywork. Why one LFA brings more than another

The recorded results show that sale price varies substantially, but they do not establish a single cause for each difference. Mileage is one documented comparison point: the $1,105,000 2023 car had 47 miles at cataloguing, while the 2024 Hagerty-recorded example showed 2,600 miles and sold for $910,611. The listings also differ by sale venue and date, and the supplied records do not provide a complete, consistent account of condition or equipment for every car.

Package matters too. RM Sotheby’s identifies 64 Nürburgring Package cars within the 500-car run, making the distinction relevant when comparing examples. Do not treat the five transactions above as directly equivalent, or infer an appreciation rate from them: they are separate results, not a comprehensive market series. Hagerty’s record pages may display further comparables, but a result without corresponding lot details should not be used to make a like-for-like comparison.
