Does Volkswagen Sell a Pickup Truck in the USA?

Volkswagen Group’s planned U.S. pickup is the Scout Terra, not a Volkswagen-badged truck. Scout targets 2027 initial production; the Amarok successor announcement is for South America.

No current Volkswagen-badged pickup for sale in the United States is identified in Volkswagen’s and Scout Motors’ official information reviewed here. Volkswagen Group’s announced U.S.-market truck is the Scout Terra, a forthcoming pickup sold under the Scout brand—not a Volkswagen model. Scout currently targets initial production in 2027 and expects entry-model pricing under $60,000; both are forward-looking figures, not guarantees.

What pickup can U.S. buyers expect from Volkswagen Group?

Scout Terra: a future Scout-branded truck

Volkswagen Group announced a separate U.S. company based on the Scout brand to develop and manufacture an electric rugged SUV and pickup for the U.S. market. The pickup is named Scout Terra. That makes it part of Volkswagen Group’s U.S. plans, but it does not make it a Volkswagen-badged truck. Scout’s Terra page says initial production is targeted for 2027, subject to change, and that entry-model pricing is expected to start under $60,000. Those are Scout’s current targets and expectations, not a confirmed on-sale date or final price.

Scout currently describes the Terra as having body-on-frame construction, four-wheel drive, mechanical locking differentials and a 240V outlet. These are details on the product page for a forthcoming vehicle; specifications may change before production. See Scout’s Terra page for its current description.

Is the Volkswagen Amarok coming to the United States?

Volkswagen’s April 3, 2025 announcement concerns an Amarok successor developed specifically for South America, with production planned in Argentina from 2027. Volkswagen Group said it would invest $580 million in Argentina for the program. The announcement does not establish U.S. sales or availability. Read Volkswagen Group’s announcement.

What about Volkswagen’s old U.S. pickup and the Tarok?

Volkswagen’s U.S. newsroom provides historical context for its former pickup and the Tarok concept, but neither is evidence of a current production pickup for the U.S. market. Volkswagen reports that 77,514 Volkswagen Pickup models were sold in the United States over five years; the newsroom page does not state the years. For the Tarok concept, Volkswagen claimed a 2,200-pound payload and said that was at least 1,200 pounds more than the last compact pickup sold in America. Those are Volkswagen’s concept-page figures, not an independent comparison or a current vehicle specification. See Volkswagen’s U.S. newsroom page.

How to read the answer

  • Looking for a new truck wearing a Volkswagen badge: the official information reviewed does not identify one currently for sale in the United States.
  • Looking for Volkswagen Group’s planned U.S. pickup: the announced vehicle is the Scout Terra, under the Scout brand, with initial production targeted for 2027.
  • Looking for an Amarok: Volkswagen’s cited successor announcement is for South America, not a U.S. launch.

This is a conclusion from the official product and announcement pages cited above, not a comprehensive inventory of dealers, used listings, individual imports or legal import routes. It does not establish that no privately imported or used Volkswagen pickup can be found in the United States.
