What the current listings say about Tesla and the rebate
Canada’s Electric Vehicle Affordability Program (EVAP) offers up to $5,000 at the point of sale in 2026 for qualifying light-duty electric vehicles. The Government of Canada says vehicles made in countries with which Canada has a free-trade agreement must have a final transaction value of $50,000 or less; Canadian-made EVs are not subject to that price cap. Tesla Canada’s incentive page lists the Model Y RWD at $49,990 MSRP. Separately, Transport Canada’s current eligible-vehicle list names the 2026 Tesla Model Y RWD-B for $5,000 on a purchase or a 48-month lease. The available official sources do not verify the specific price increase or show that it caused the listed Model Y to lose eligibility. Why the advertised MSRP is not the eligibility test
The program’s threshold is based on final transaction value, not a casual comparison with the displayed MSRP. Tesla describes its threshold as a total transaction price under $50,000 before taxes, freight, government fees and certain licensed dealership fees. The government describes the limit as $50,000 or less. Because the wording differs at the boundary, buyers should rely on the official program rule and the actual transaction details—not assume that Tesla’s phrasing or a vehicle’s advertised price settles the question.

How much can a qualifying Model Y transaction receive?
Transport Canada’s list gives the 2026 Model Y RWD-B these maximum incentive amounts by purchase or lease term:

What Tesla buyers should verify before ordering
- Match the exact vehicle. Confirm that the model year and trim on the contract match a vehicle on Transport Canada’s eligible list. The current listing cited here is for the 2026 Model Y RWD-B.
- Check the final transaction value. Ask the participating seller to confirm the value under EVAP rules, including any items that count toward it. Do not treat the $49,990 MSRP alone as proof of eligibility.
- Confirm the purchase or lease terms. The listed amount depends on transaction type and lease length; the full $5,000 is shown for a purchase or 48-month lease.
- Confirm timing and seller participation. Ask whether the transaction date and delivery arrangements qualify, whether any required customer pre-qualification is complete, and whether the seller is administering the program.
- Recheck immediately before committing. The vehicle list, program funding and seller participation can change. Tesla says incentives are not guaranteed, funding may lapse, and it may opt not to participate.
What about the Tesla Model 3?
Tesla’s current Canada incentive page says Model 3 vehicles are not currently eligible for EVAP. That is distinct from the listed 2026 Model Y RWD-B; check the government list for the exact vehicle rather than assuming the same status applies across Tesla models.

The current official information does not support saying that a Tesla price increase has made the Model Y categorically ineligible for Canada’s $5,000 rebate. It shows a $49,990 Model Y RWD MSRP on Tesla’s incentive page and a 2026 Model Y RWD-B listing for up to $5,000 on a purchase or 48-month lease. Whether a particular transaction qualifies depends on its exact vehicle, final transaction value, timing and seller participation.
