Not every 2026 Tesla Model 3 is reported to lose its radio. Radio World reported that Tesla’s 2026 Model 3 Standard trim would ship without an AM or FM tuner; its report does not establish that the higher trims or every market are affected. Tesla’s new Australian Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive announced October 7, 2026, is a separate entry-level model, and its tuner status has not been stated in the available materials.
Which 2026 Model 3 trim is reported to have no radio?
Radio World reported that Tesla announced the feature changes on October 7, 2025, and that the 2026 Model 3 Standard and Model Y Standard would ship without AM or FM radio. The report was published October 21, 2025. Its claim is specific to those Standard trims; it does not establish that the Model 3 Premium or Performance loses a tuner, or that the change applies in every market. Radio World’s report does not give enough information to identify tuner equipment across all regional configurations.
That distinction matters if you are shopping: a trim name or model year alone is not enough to confirm reception in a particular car. Check the equipment listing for the exact market and configuration, or ask Tesla to confirm whether it has a built-in terrestrial tuner.
Does the new Australian Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive have FM or DAB?
Tesla announced a new Australian Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive on October 7, 2026. GoAuto reported a price of A$45,900 before on-road costs and deliveries expected in mid-to-late October. Neither the report nor Tesla’s configuration page establishes whether this Australian entry-level version includes AM, FM or DAB reception. The overseas Standard-trim report should not be treated as confirmation of the Australian car’s equipment.

For the Australian model, confirm tuner support directly for the specific vehicle before ordering if broadcast radio is important to you. GoAuto’s report lists Apple Music, Amazon Music, Spotify, Netflix and YouTube through Tesla Theatre, but those services are internet audio or video—not over-the-air radio reception. GoAuto’s Australian report and Tesla’s Model 3 configuration page do not specify tuner status.
How can you listen without a built-in tuner?
Stream audio through the car
In-car streaming apps can provide music and other audio, subject to service availability, region, vehicle configuration and connectivity. They do not receive local AM/FM/DAB broadcasts, and internet audio may not be available wherever you drive.

Pair a phone over Bluetooth
Radio World reports Bluetooth audio from a mobile device as another option. You can listen to a radio app on your phone through the car’s audio system, but that is app-based listening, not reception by a built-in tuner. Access may depend on the app, mobile coverage and data service. Radio World describes phone audio as an alternative.
Carry a portable AM/FM radio
A standalone portable radio can receive terrestrial broadcasts without relying on the car’s internet connection, subject to local signal coverage. It is a separate listening device, not a verified Tesla retrofit or an integrated receiver; no supported tuner installation or connection to the vehicle speakers is established.

Why the loss of broadcast radio matters
Radio World cited an Edison Research figure that 51% of Tesla drivers spent time listening to AM/FM radio. The report calls it Edison Research’s most recent “Share of Ear” finding, but does not specify the study year; the figure should not be read as a current measurement for all drivers or markets. Radio World links to a Westwood One page, rather than establishing the underlying study’s publication date.
Grace Whaley, senior manager for communications and social media for the National Association of Broadcasters, told Radio World: “Removing broadcast radio from vehicles is a disservice to millions of drivers who rely on these stations for trusted news, community connection and emergency alerts.” That is the NAB representative’s position on the change, not an independent finding about the impact on Tesla owners.
