Not across Europe as a whole. Tesla’s current European support information lists Tesla Assisted Driving in eight countries: the Netherlands, Lithuania, Estonia, Denmark, Belgium, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Croatia. That list is not a Europe-wide authorization, and a listed country does not guarantee that every Tesla can use the system. Eligibility can depend on the vehicle’s hardware, software version, model, trim, model year, configuration and region.
In Europe, the system remains supervised driver assistance. You must watch the road, stay engaged and be ready to take over. It is not a self-driving car, and permission in one country does not automatically settle whether you may use it after crossing a border.

Tesla also says activation and use in other countries depend on legal approval and further developments. The company’s country list is therefore best read as a current availability statement, not proof that the feature is legal or technically enabled everywhere on the continent.

Why the Netherlands matters, and why its approval is not automatically EU-wide
On 10 April 2026, RDW said it had issued type approval for Tesla’s FSD Supervised driver-assistance system. RDW’s explanation said the approval was then valid only in the Netherlands. It described a separate process for possible wider European admission: an application to the European Commission, a vote by member states and a majority decision in the responsible committee.
That sequence is important. A Dutch type approval did not, by itself, authorize the software in every European Union country. Tesla’s later support list includes seven additional countries, but the material available here does not document the individual legal basis or operating conditions for each of those markets. Do not infer that every country follows the Dutch approval automatically.
What RDW tested
In a 17 June 2026 explanation, RDW said its assessment included more than 3,000 hours of testing, more than 1,000 test runs and data from 1.8 million kilometres driven in Europe with FSD Supervised. Those figures describe RDW’s own assessment inputs; they are not a guarantee of identical performance or safety on every road in every country.
Recommended Free Tools
RDW also reported that approximately 40,000 Teslas had driven about 24 million kilometres in the Netherlands since approval without relevant incidents during the period it observed. This is a dated statement about that Dutch post-approval experience. It does not establish risk-free operation, prove equivalent results elsewhere or remove the driver’s legal responsibility.
What “Full Self-Driving” means in Europe
Despite the product name, the European system is not autonomous driving. RDW states that FSD Supervised is an advanced driver-assistance system and that “a vehicle with FSD Supervised is not self-driving.” Its other formulation is that “the driver is supported and remains responsible.”

The driver must participate in traffic, monitor the system and be available to take over immediately. RDW says eye- and hand-availability monitoring is used and warns that a driver cannot read a newspaper while the system is active. Tesla likewise instructs drivers to keep their eyes on the road and remain ready to intervene.
Functions Tesla describes
Tesla says its assisted-driving package can perform several driving tasks, subject to the vehicle and regional configuration:
- Steer the vehicle.
- Change lanes.
- Take route exits.
- Navigate around vehicles and other objects.
- Make turns.
These capabilities do not transfer automatically to every Tesla. Tesla identifies hardware, software version, model, trim, model year, configuration and region as factors that can change availability. A country appearing on the support page is therefore not proof that a particular used or imported car is eligible.
Does the European version work like the US version?
No. RDW explains that Europe and the United States use different vehicle-admission processes and that vehicles use different software versions. It specifically says the US and EU versions of FSD Supervised are not directly comparable one-to-one.
That means US demonstrations, feature lists, operating behavior or marketing claims should not be treated as evidence of what a European vehicle can do. The local name may also differ: Tesla’s support material uses Tesla Assisted Driving (TAD), while RDW’s approval documents refer to FSD Supervised. Check the name and software version shown for the vehicle and market you actually intend to use.

Can you use Tesla FSD when driving across borders?
The available official material does not establish a single Europe-wide answer for every route. Tesla lists countries where the feature is available, but it does not, in the cited information, confirm that a vehicle activated in one listed country will continue operating under the same conditions after crossing into another country.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Cross-border use can involve several separate questions:
- Is the destination country on Tesla’s current availability list?
- Does your particular vehicle meet the destination market’s hardware, software, model, trim and model-year requirements?
- Does the vehicle retain the relevant regional configuration after crossing the border?
- Do the destination country’s traffic and vehicle rules permit the system’s use on the roads you will drive?
- Has Tesla or the destination authority explicitly confirmed operation for that vehicle and route?
Do not use a neighboring country’s rollout as a substitute for those checks. For a planned trip, verify the car’s current eligibility in the Tesla account or vehicle interface and consult the relevant national rules before departure. If the destination or route is not explicitly confirmed, plan to drive without relying on the assisted-driving feature.
How to check whether your own Tesla is eligible
- Identify the exact car. Record the model, trim, model year and market in which it was delivered. Imported vehicles can have a different regional configuration from locally delivered cars.
- Check the installed software. Use the vehicle’s software screen and Tesla account to note the exact version. Do not assume that a feature shown in a US video or on another owner’s car is present in your build.
- Review Tesla’s current regional availability. Confirm that the country where the car is registered and operated appears on Tesla’s current list. Availability can change as approvals and software releases change.
- Check the vehicle-specific feature display. Look for the assisted-driving package and any eligibility message attached to your vehicle, rather than relying only on the country list.
- Confirm the legal position for travel. For a cross-border journey, check both the departure and destination countries and any countries through which you will transit. A country-level listing is not a route-specific legal opinion.
- Prepare to drive manually. Even when the feature is enabled, remain responsible for the entire trip and be ready to take over immediately.
Common misunderstandings and how to avoid them
“It is approved in the Netherlands, so it is approved everywhere in the EU.”
That is incorrect. RDW initially described its approval as valid only in the Netherlands and outlined additional EU-level steps. Later Tesla listings do not, by themselves, supply the legal details for every other country.
“The country is listed, so every Tesla there gets the feature.”
Not necessarily. Tesla says availability can depend on hardware, software version, model, trim, model year, configuration and region. Two cars in the same country may therefore have different eligibility.

“Full Self-Driving means I can stop watching the road.”
No. RDW classifies the system as driver assistance, requires the driver to remain responsible and describes eye- and hand-availability monitoring. Tesla requires continuous attention and readiness to intervene.
“A US FSD demonstration shows what my European car will do.”
Not reliably. RDW says the admission rules and software versions differ between the US and Europe, so the two versions are not comparable one-to-one.
“A lack of reported incidents proves the system is safe everywhere.”
RDW’s Dutch figure—approximately 40,000 Teslas and about 24 million kilometres without relevant incidents during its observed period—is useful context, but it is not a universal safety guarantee. It describes one country and a defined time period.
What a practical 2026 answer looks like
If you live in one of the eight countries Tesla currently lists, your Tesla may be eligible for the European assisted-driving package, subject to the car-specific requirements and local rules. If you live elsewhere, the support page does not establish current availability. If you plan to cross a border, treat the destination as a separate legal and technical check rather than assuming continuity.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →The safest interpretation is narrow: Tesla’s European rollout is country-limited, vehicle-specific and supervised. The Netherlands has a documented RDW approval, while the cited material does not provide equivalent independent legal detail for every other listed country. Until Tesla and the relevant authorities explicitly confirm a particular vehicle and route, keep full responsibility for driving and be prepared to operate the car without the feature.
