“Dodge sports car” is a broad label, not the name of one continuous model line. The current Charger is Dodge’s muscle car; the two-seat Viper was the marque’s distinct sports-car chapter, but Dodge ended Viper production in 2017. Today, the Charger carries Dodge’s performance identity in both gasoline SIXPACK and electric Daytona forms.
Is the Dodge Charger a sports car or a muscle car?
Dodge classifies the Charger as a muscle car, not a sports car. The company’s explanation emphasizes the Charger’s wider, more authoritative shape and performance-first design. That distinction matters: “Dodge sports car” may describe Dodge performance cars loosely, but it does not mean the Charger and Viper are the same kind of vehicle.
The Charger is the longer-running nameplate. Dodge dates its debut to 1966 and counts eight generations in its 2026 anniversary announcement. The Viper, by contrast, was a two-seat sports car built from 1991 through 2017. Dodge itself calls the Viper an American performance icon; that is the automaker’s characterization, rather than an independently measured ranking.
What Dodge performance cars are available for 2026?
The 2026 Charger range spans two powertrain approaches: a 3.0-liter twin-turbo SIXPACK gasoline engine and the all-electric Charger Daytona. Dodge’s published figures below are manufacturer specifications or targets, not independent road or track-test results.

Dodge’s 2026 announcement quotes CEO Matt McAlear saying, “For 60 years, Dodge Charger has been known for delivering legendary muscle car performance, and we have every intention of continuing that legacy.” It is a statement of the company’s intent, not a third-party assessment of the cars.
Is the Dodge Viper still made?
No. Dodge says Viper and Viper SRT production ran from 1991 to 2017. A shopper interested in one will need to look for a used example rather than a new Viper; Dodge’s Viper legacy page directs prospective owners toward pre-owned vehicles through local dealers.

Where can Viper owners find parts, service, or a manual?
Dodge’s Viper resource page points owners to Mopar parts and service information and to the owner’s manual. Mopar’s Viper parts catalog is organized by model year, and the 2017 Viper owner’s guide is one official manual route. The 2017 guide lists factory accessories including brake rotors, a carbon-fiber X-brace, dust covers, floor mats, and a battery charger.
- Match the part or manual to the car’s model year and trim.
- Confirm fitment and availability with Mopar or a qualified dealer before ordering.
- For discontinued-car inventory, verify whether a listing is new, used, or aftermarket; a catalog entry alone does not establish current stock or universal compatibility.
For other Dodge performance-car ownership needs, Mopar also offers year-organized Charger and Challenger parts catalogs. Check exact year and fitment rather than assuming a part transfers between models.

Why the Charger and Viper are different chapters
The Charger is Dodge’s enduring, multi-generation muscle-car nameplate, with the 2026 range extending from gasoline models to an electric Daytona. The Viper was a separate two-seat sports car with a defined 1991–2017 production run. That is why a reader searching for a current Dodge sports car may encounter two different answers: Dodge’s current performance centerpiece is called a muscle car, while the car most clearly associated with its sports-car past is discontinued.
