The car, called the Charger PPV (Police Pursuit Vehicle), is not yet a finished, orderable production model. A report published August 11, 2026 says Dodge CEO Matt McAlear described the police vehicle as “absolutely part of the plan” and said Dodge is working with the General Services Administration, its fleet team, the California Highway Patrol and Michigan State Police. MoparInsiders’ report describes a prototype shown at the 2026 Police Fleet Expo in Daytona.
What Dodge has confirmed—and what remains a report
McAlear’s comments indicate that Dodge intends to return the Charger to police-fleet development. He told MoparInsiders: “It’s absolutely part of the plan. I met with the GSA (General Services Administration) and our fleet team a couple of weeks ago. So, they’re actively working with the California Highway Patrol and the Michigan State Police, two of the main bodies that help set the standards for what a pursuit model must be. So, we’re absolutely focused on it. It’s always taken a Charger to catch a Charger, and it’s not something we’re walking away from”.
Dodge Law displayed an early Charger PPV at the 2026 Police Fleet Expo at Daytona International Speedway, according to the same report. Car and Driver also described the vehicle as a 2027 Charger PPV with AWD and a turbocharged inline-six in its August 18, 2026 coverage: Car and Driver’s report. Electrek reproduced McAlear’s statement on August 15 and noted that Stellantis had not then issued an official announcement: Electrek’s coverage.
Those reports establish an active development effort and a prototype, not a production launch announcement. The reviewed coverage does not include a final PPV specification sheet or a confirmed public order date.

What the Charger PPV prototype is reported to use
MoparInsiders reports that the prototype is based on the civilian Charger R/T SIXPACK and uses the standard-output 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged Hurricane inline-six. AWD is expected to be standard, but that detail and the engine description are reported prototype information, not final certified production specifications.
Dodge’s official 2026 announcement gives civilian engine figures that help distinguish the versions, but they should not be mistaken for confirmed PPV output:

- Officially licensed by the city of New York
- Die cast metal
- 1:43 scale Dodge Charger
| Vehicle or version | Reported powertrain detail | Published output |
|---|---|---|
| Charger PPV prototype | Reported standard-output 3.0-liter twin-turbo Hurricane inline-six; AWD expected | Final PPV output not stated in the prototype report |
| 2026 civilian Charger R/T SIXPACK | Standard-output SIXPACK | 420 hp and 468 lb-ft, per Dodge’s 2026 civilian announcement |
| 2026 civilian Charger Scat Pack SIXPACK H.O. | High-output SIXPACK | 550 hp and 531 lb-ft, per Dodge’s 2026 civilian announcement |
Dodge’s Charger announcement supplies civilian specifications only. The PPV report does not publish a police-car output rating, acceleration time, top speed or independently tested performance figure, so civilian Scat Pack numbers should not be assigned to the police vehicle.
How the prototype is laid out for police work
The reported cabin and cargo changes prioritize fleet equipment and separation rather than civilian convenience. MoparInsiders describes these prototype features:
Rank #3
- Openable Doors
- Detailed Interior
- Measure 7.75 x 3 x 2.75 inches
- A simplified center section intended to make room for radios, siren controls, computers and switches.
- A partition behind the front seats.
- A divider and equipment tray behind the rear seat, separating rear cargo storage.
These are details of the early vehicle shown at the expo. They do not establish a final equipment package or confirm which police-fleet options will be offered at launch.
When could police departments order one?
MoparInsiders attributes a summer 2027 target for opening PPV orders to Jason Meyer, who supplied photographs from the event. That is a reported target, not a confirmed order-opening date from Dodge or Stellantis. Departments should treat timing as provisional until the manufacturer publishes ordering information.

Which production details are still unknown?
The prototype coverage says Dodge had not announced final police-specific suspension tuning, brakes, cooling upgrades, electrical systems, equipment packages, pricing or performance certification. As development continues, prototype features and specifications may change. The available reports therefore do not support a purchasing decision based on a final price, certified pursuit capability or complete fleet configuration.
