DJI is no longer treating e-bikes as a one-off experiment. After launching the Avinox Drive System with the Amflow PL in 2024, the company’s e-bike operation expanded in 2026 with the Avinox M2 and M2S, a claimed network of more than 60 bicycle manufacturers, connected software, accessories, and a concept motor designed to integrate shifting with assistance. The result is an emerging OEM e-bike platform—not a generic retrofit motor—with DJI-developed technology at its foundation.
From drone technology to e-bike powertrains
DJI’s e-bike strategy has moved beyond a one-off motor launch. The company introduced the Avinox Drive System at Eurobike in July 2024 with the Amflow PL electric mountain bike. By 2026, the platform had expanded to the Avinox M2 and M2S drive units, more than 60 claimed OEM bicycle partners, connected software, dedicated accessories, and concept work aimed at integrating gear shifting with motor control.

That makes Avinox more significant than a powerful mid-drive motor. It is an OEM technology platform combining the drive unit, battery, display, wireless controls, smartphone app, connectivity, diagnostics, and accessories. DJI supplied the original technology and launch momentum, while later Avinox materials present Avinox as an e-bike systems company and state that it established independence in 2025. The safest description is therefore DJI-developed Avinox technology evolving into an independent-facing e-bike systems platform, rather than making a broader unsupported claim about corporate ownership.

What DJI originally launched with Avinox
The original Avinox system was built around a compact mid-drive unit weighing 2.52 kg. DJI specified up to 105 N·m of torque in its regular assist modes and up to 120 N·m in Boost mode. The system was designed for complete bicycles, with the Amflow PL serving as the first major production example.
The original hardware and software package included:
- 600 Wh and 800 Wh battery options;
- a 2-inch OLED touchscreen display;
- wireless handlebar controllers;
- Avinox Ride app connectivity;
- GPS and ride-data functions;
- customizable assistance parameters;
- bike-security functions and abnormal-movement alerts; and
- Smart Assist, which uses multiple sensors to adjust support according to riding resistance.
The first complete bike, the Amflow PL, was described as an all-around electric mountain bike. Its launch specifications cited a 250 W nominal system and up to 850 W of peak power under the stated test conditions. That 850 W figure belongs to the original Amflow launch specification; it should not be treated as a universal continuous rating for every Avinox-equipped bicycle.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →The original battery and charging claims were also notable. DJI said the 800 Wh battery could reach 75% charge in approximately 1.5 hours using the supported gallium-nitride, or GaN, fast charger. That result was measured under controlled conditions. Ambient temperature, battery state, charger configuration, firmware, and real-world charging conditions can change the result, and the claim does not mean that every Avinox bike or battery will charge at that rate.
Avinox M1 vs. M2 vs. M2S
The later Avinox FAQ lists all three drive units at 250 W rated power. It separately lists short-duration peak output and peak torque. This distinction matters: the larger wattage numbers describe performance available under specified conditions, not the continuous legal rating of the bicycle.
| Drive unit | Rated power | Peak power listed by Avinox | Peak torque | Published weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Avinox M1 | 250 W | Up to 1,000 W | 120 N·m | 2.52 kg |
| Avinox M2 | 250 W | Up to 1,100 W | 125 N·m | Approximately 2.65 kg |
| Avinox M2S | 250 W | Up to 1,500 W with specified batteries in Boost | 150 N·m | Approximately 2.59 kg |
The M2S is the performance flagship. In its April 9, 2026 announcement, Avinox said the unit produces 150 N·m of peak torque and 130 N·m of continuous torque. The M2 is rated at 125 N·m of peak torque. Despite the higher output, Avinox says both newer units retain a form factor close to the original M1, with the company emphasizing increased power density rather than a dramatic increase in size.
The M1 figures require a little context because the documentation describes the system in different ways. The original Amflow launch cited up to 850 W of peak power, while the later Avinox FAQ lists the M1 at up to 1,000 W peak. Those numbers may reflect different battery combinations, operating modes, test conditions, or documentation periods. They should not be read as evidence that the Amflow PL continuously produces 1,000 W on public roads.

Why peak power is not the legal rating
Calling the M2S a “1,500 W e-bike motor” without qualification would be misleading. Avinox’s own documentation lists 250 W rated power for the drive units and identifies the 1,500 W figure as peak output available with specified batteries and in Boost mode. Peak power is useful when discussing acceleration, steep climbs, and short bursts, but it does not by itself determine how a bicycle is classified under local law.
Maximum assisted speed, throttle rules, vehicle configuration, rated power definitions, and e-bike classifications vary by jurisdiction. Avinox says its system automatically adjusts maximum speed for the relevant country or region. Its FAQ lists 32 kph, or 20 mph, for the United States and 25 kph for the European Union, United Kingdom, China, and Australia. Buyers still need to confirm the rules that apply where they ride, because a regional software setting does not override local registration, equipment, trail, or road requirements.
The major expansion is through bicycle manufacturers
DJI does not need to manufacture every complete bicycle to become a serious e-bike player. By supplying the powertrain and digital architecture to established bicycle brands, Avinox can reach multiple categories while each manufacturer handles frame design, suspension, geometry, battery integration, drivetrain selection, and market distribution.
Avinox’s 2026 announcement said that more than 60 OEM bicycle brands had integrated the M2 or M2S systems. The announcement named brands including Amflow, Atherton, BH, Canyon, Commencal, Crestline, Forbidden, Megamo, Mondraker, Pivot, Propain, Rotwild, Steppenwolf, Thömus, Unno, and Whyte, among others.
At its Eurobike 2026 booth, Avinox listed 19 partner brands on display: Amflow, Atherton, Canyon, Commencal, Crussis, Forbidden, Megamo, Mondraker, Orbea, Pivot, Propain, RAYMON, Rotwild, Steppenwolf, Teewing, THÖMUS, Unno, Whyte, and YT Industries.
The difference between those two lists is important. “More than 60” is the broader claimed partner count; the 19-brand booth roster is a public exhibition subset. It is not a complete directory, and a partnership announcement does not guarantee that every brand’s Avinox model is available in every country or still on sale.
Readers comparing Avinox-powered bikes should therefore check the exact model, motor generation, battery size, software region, dealer network, warranty terms, and replacement-parts route rather than assuming that every partner bicycle uses identical hardware or has identical capabilities.

Avinox is not presented as a universal retrofit kit
The available official material supports an OEM-integrated mid-drive platform, not a plug-and-play conversion system for arbitrary bicycle frames. A complete-bike manufacturer must account for motor mounts, frame clearance, battery placement, wiring, display and controller integration, chainline, suspension kinematics, thermal management, software configuration, and certification or regional compliance.
That integration has advantages. A manufacturer can tune the frame and suspension around the motor, place the battery in a structurally appropriate location, and configure the control software for the bicycle’s intended use. It also creates limitations for owners: a failed display, battery, controller, charger, or drive unit may require model-specific parts and dealer support rather than a generic replacement from any e-bike supplier.
For that reason, a standalone listing described simply as a “DJI Avinox motor” should be treated cautiously. Confirm that the part is intended for the specific bicycle and system generation before considering a purchase.
The connected ecosystem is part of the product
Avinox’s product architecture is organized around more than the motor. The platform includes drive units, batteries, control displays, wireless controllers, the Avinox Ride app, chargers, lighting, and other accessories. This software-and-hardware integration is central to how Avinox is trying to differentiate itself from a conventional motor supplier.
The display and app can expose more control than a basic assistance selector. Launch materials described customizable assist behavior, ride-data recording, GPS-related functions, bike-security features, abnormal-movement alerts, and remote status information. Those features can make the system more useful, but they also mean that the buying decision includes app support, firmware policy, connectivity, and privacy preferences—not just torque.

Avinox’s 2025 firmware announcement illustrates how quickly these details can change. It documented firmware version V00.11.03.04 and Avinox Ride App version 1.3.3, along with an adjustable Boost-duration range of 10 to 60 seconds. Firmware and app numbers are version-sensitive, so anyone buying or servicing an Avinox bicycle should check the current release notes and compatibility information rather than relying on those historical version numbers.
Accessories: from lighting to service parts
Avinox introduced the Avinox Front Light in October 2025. The 105-gram light was designed to integrate with the Avinox ecosystem, with Amflow identified as a launch collaborator. That is a small product, but strategically it shows that Avinox is building a recognizable family of components instead of treating the drive unit as an isolated OEM part.

- Reliable Performance for E-Bike Repair & UpgradeThis 36 teeth nylon planetary gear clutch kit offers stable structure, high mechanical strength and long service life; must-have e-bike replacement parts Compatible With Bafang gear, hub motor and electric bike gear maintenance.
The Avinox Front Light should be purchased only after confirming the exact bicycle, mounting arrangement, electrical connection, and regional seller information. The same caution applies to chargers, batteries, displays, wireless controllers, locks, tracking equipment, and e-bike maintenance tools. Compatibility is model-specific, and a physically similar accessory may not work with the bicycle’s software or power system.
The next step: integrated shifting
At Eurobike 2026, Avinox presented the MG Concept Motor, developed with Canyon, Commencal, Forbidden, and Mondraker. The concept combines motor assistance with integrated shifting rather than treating the motor and gear system as entirely separate components.
Avinox claims uninterrupted power delivery and shift times below 0.1 second. It describes a maintenance-light internal derailleur unit that can work with a single-speed chain or belt and adapt to several categories, including eMTB, eTrekking, eSUV, and eGravel bicycles.
The MG Concept is best understood as a statement of direction, not as a confirmed mass-market product with a universal release date. If the idea reaches production, it could simplify drivetrain packaging and allow the control system to coordinate torque reduction, gear selection, and assistance more precisely. It could also make service, replacement parts, and long-term repair more dependent on the original manufacturer. Those are potential consequences, not confirmed production specifications.
Heart-rate control shows where the software is heading
Avinox also announced a Smart Heart Rate Control System in 2026. When connected to a heart-rate monitor, the system can adjust pedal assistance to keep the rider within a selected heart-rate zone.
This feature points to a broader strategy: Avinox wants the bicycle to respond not only to speed, cadence, torque, and terrain resistance, but also to the rider’s physical effort. That could be useful for training, endurance rides, rehabilitation, or simply maintaining a consistent exertion level. It will depend on the monitor’s compatibility, the accuracy of the selected zone, and how riders prefer to balance exercise against battery consumption.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteWhat Avinox’s expansion means for e-bike buyers
The headline torque figures are attention-grabbing, but the more consequential part of Avinox may be the combination of compact hardware and software-defined control. The motor can help a bicycle climb, but the OEM network and connected platform determine how many types of bicycle receive that technology and how owners interact with it.

When evaluating an Avinox-equipped bicycle, use this checklist:
- Identify the exact drive unit. Confirm whether the bicycle uses the M1, M2, or M2S. Do not assume that an “Avinox” label identifies the performance level.
- Check the battery and charger package. Battery capacity, supported charging equipment, and charging times can differ by model. Treat fast-charge claims as test-condition claims, not guarantees of everyday results.
- Separate rated power from peak output. A 1,100 W or 1,500 W peak figure does not mean the bicycle has that continuous legal rating.
- Verify the regional speed setting and local rules. The system’s software setting is only one part of legal compliance.
- Inspect dealer and parts support. Ask who supplies replacement batteries, displays, controllers, chargers, and drive units in your country.
- Confirm app and firmware support. Connected features can improve control and security, but they also depend on software updates and compatible phones or sensors.
- Check the bicycle, not just the motor. Frame geometry, suspension, brakes, wheels, tires, weight, and battery placement have a major effect on real-world performance.
- Verify accessory compatibility. This includes the Avinox Front Light, charger, display, controller, security equipment, and any maintenance component.
Availability is also time- and region-sensitive. Avinox’s partner announcements establish a growing supply pipeline, but they do not establish a complete United States inventory or guarantee that a particular model is sold through Amazon or another retailer. Buyers should verify live stock, model-year specifications, warranty coverage, and service arrangements before paying a premium for the newest drive unit.
Bottom line: DJI is building a platform, not just a motor
DJI’s e-bike move began with the Avinox M1 and Amflow PL, but the strategy now reaches much further. The M2 and M2S raise the performance ceiling, the OEM network brings Avinox to a growing range of bicycle brands, the app and controls turn the motor into a connected system, accessories extend the product family, and the MG concept points toward integrated shifting across more e-bike categories.
The most accurate way to view Avinox is as a developing premium e-bike powertrain platform. Its long-term success will depend not only on torque and peak wattage, but also on bicycle availability, regional compliance, software support, dealer service, replacement parts, and whether the promised ecosystem remains useful after the initial purchase.
