What happened to the Saleen S1 prototype at auction?
The prototype was listed on eBay in December 2023. Carscoops described it as believed to be the only running example of the mid-engined S1, while reporting that other prototypes were built for static display. That description does not mean it was the only S1 vehicle of any kind: the report distinguished the prototype from 20 S1 Cup race cars. Carscoops reported these details on December 29, 2023.
The auction’s closing result is not settled in the published accounts. RPMweb wrote on January 4, 2024, that bidding exceeded $150,000 but did not meet the reserve. By contrast, La Gazzetta dello Sport reported on January 1, 2024, that the car sold for $150,100. A high bid is not proof of a completed sale, and the reports do not establish which account is correct.
How does the auction figure compare with Saleen’s advertised price?
Carscoops reported that Saleen had advertised a $120,000 starting price for the S1. That was a contemporaneous advertised figure, not the result of this eBay auction. The reported auction figures—more than $150,000 in RPMweb’s account and a $150,100 sale price in La Gazzetta’s—must be kept separate from it.

Was the Saleen S1 in production?
Not according to the snapshot published alongside the listing. Carscoops reported in December 2023 that series production had not begun and Saleen’s website still described the S1 as “coming soon.” That is evidence of the situation reported at the time, not confirmation of the company’s current production status.
The “only running example” description is also a reported characterization, rather than an independently verified count of every S1-related vehicle. Carscoops said the other prototypes were static-display examples and separately noted the 20 S1 Cup race cars.

What is known about the car now?
The cited accounts do not establish the prototype’s current owner or location, or whether a private transaction followed the eBay listing. Without confirmation from the auction archive, seller, or buyer, it is not possible to resolve the conflicting reports or say that the car is currently for sale.
