No. A report about a plaque at the Mustang Owner’s Museum said a Shelby GT500 comeback was expected in 2025 for the 2026 model year, but that was a reported prediction—not a Ford announcement. Ford’s later 2026 lineup identifies its high-performance Mustang as the Dark Horse SC, not a Shelby GT500.
What did the museum plaque reportedly say?
A CarBuzz report said a plaque at the Mustang Owner’s Museum described the GT500 as “expected to make a comeback in 2025 for 2026.” The wording was presented as a prediction, and the report itself noted that Ford had not confirmed an S650-generation GT500. The plaque’s author and the basis for its wording have not been established.
The distinction matters: a museum display reported by a secondary outlet is not the same as a product announcement from Ford. The available account does not show that Ford authored or approved the plaque text. CarBuzz’s report.
What did Ford list for the 2025 Mustang?
Ford’s official 2025 Mustang lineup listed EcoBoost, GT and Dark Horse models, with no GT500. Ford described the Dark Horse as having a naturally aspirated, modified 5.0-liter Coyote V8 rated at 500 horsepower. That figure is Ford’s specification, not an independent test result. What is Ford’s high-performance Mustang for 2026?
Ford’s official 2026 pages name the high-performance model the Mustang Dark Horse SC. Ford lists a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 rated at 795 horsepower. Those specifications establish what Ford calls and claims for the Dark Horse SC; they do not establish that it is a Shelby GT500 or that the two names refer to the same model.
