Not seven verified lawsuits. The available reporting supports a smaller, more careful account: Ferrari pursued a trademark proceeding against two creators of Ferrari-related Facebook pages in Italy; those page operators later sued Ferrari and Facebook in California; Ferrari also brought a trademark dispute involving the Ferrari Club Milano supporters’ association. Deadmau5’s “Purrari” episode is often counted as a lawsuit, but a 2026 account says Ferrari sent him a cease-and-desist letter and filed no suit.
Why the “seven lawsuits” claim needs correction
The headline premise is not established by the available reporting. One roundup published by MotorBiscuit in 2023 is titled “5 Times Ferrari Sued Its Own Fans,” but a listicle is not proof of five separate Ferrari-filed lawsuits, much less seven. Its inclusion of the Deadmau5 episode illustrates the problem: that account is described elsewhere as a warning letter, not a filed case.
To assess a story like this, distinguish who initiated the legal action, what kind of action it was, whether the target was an individual or organization, and whether the reported result is a court finding or only an allegation. On that basis, the clearest cases here do not add up to seven verified suits against individual fans.
What happened in the best-documented disputes
Olivier and Sammy Wasem: Ferrari-related Facebook pages
Ferrari reportedly sued Olivier and Sammy Wasem in Italy for trademark infringement after the father and son had initiated a legal challenge in Switzerland. The Wasems later filed a California complaint against Ferrari and Facebook concerning control of Ferrari-related Facebook pages. Ars Technica described their claims about the pages’ administration; Courthouse News Service recounted the cross-border dispute in 2025.

Ferrari’s side of the dispute also matters, but should be described as allegations rather than established findings. CompleteCar.ie reported Ferrari’s claim that the pages were used to promote non-Ferrari merchandise and personal messages. The reporting available here does not establish that every allegation was upheld by a court, nor does it settle the Wasems’ claims as facts.

Ferrari Club Milano: a supporters’ association, not an individual fan
Ferrari also had a trademark dispute involving Ferrari Club Milano, an historic supporters’ association. The IPKat’s January 2014 legal commentary discusses the Italian Supreme Court’s treatment of trademark use in market-facing activity, including activity by a non-profit organization. That is a different fact pattern from suing an individual for being a fan, and the commentary should not be stretched into a universal rule about fan clubs or private fan activity.

Deadmau5 and the “Purrari”: a warning letter, not a lawsuit
In 2014, musician Joel Zimmerman, known as Deadmau5, received a cease-and-desist letter over a customized Ferrari and “Purrari” branding, according to LegalClarity’s June 2026 account. That account explicitly says Ferrari did not file a lawsuit against him. A demand letter can signal a dispute or threaten further action, but it is not itself a court case.

Jean “Beurlys” Blaton and the F40 Barchetta
MotorBiscuit’s 2023 roundup describes a 2005 Belgian court dispute involving Jean “Beurlys” Blaton’s modified F40 Barchetta. The reporting cited here is secondary, and no primary judgment is identified. Without that record, it is not safe to state the precise holding, treat the dispute as a verified Ferrari-filed lawsuit against a fan, or equate an owner’s car modification with the conduct alleged in the Facebook-page matter.

Did Ferrari sue Deadmau5?
The reviewed 2026 account says no: Ferrari sent Deadmau5 a cease-and-desist letter over the “Purrari” customization and branding, but did not file a lawsuit. Reports that call the episode a lawsuit should therefore be read cautiously unless they identify an actual proceeding.

Do these cases mean Ferrari can sue anyone who modifies or criticizes a car?
No such general rule is established by these reports. The disputes described involve trademark use, administration of fan pages, and an association’s activity; they do not demonstrate a general ban on private criticism or personal vehicle modification. The sources here also do not establish a broad legal rule for individual owners. The outcome of a real dispute would depend on the conduct, applicable law, jurisdiction, and evidence, so these examples are not a substitute for legal advice about a specific situation.

| Episode | Initiator and form reported | Target | What the reporting establishes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wasem Facebook-page dispute | Ferrari reportedly brought an Italian trademark proceeding; the Wasems later sued Ferrari and Facebook in California. | Two page operators, with Facebook also named in the later California case. | Reported procedural history and attributed allegations; the cited coverage does not establish all claims as court findings. |
| Ferrari Club Milano | Ferrari trademark case, discussed in legal commentary on an Italian Supreme Court decision. | A supporters’ association. | A dispute involving a club, not an individual fan; the commentary addresses market-facing trademark use. |
| Deadmau5 “Purrari” | Cease-and-desist letter reported; no lawsuit, according to LegalClarity’s 2026 account. | An individual musician and Ferrari owner. | Do not count it as a filed lawsuit on the cited account. |
| Blaton F40 Barchetta | A 2005 Belgian court dispute described in a secondary roundup. | An individual Ferrari owner. | Exact holding and classification as a Ferrari-filed lawsuit are not established here. |
The table is not a count of seven cases: it separates the reported legal forms and targets so that warning letters, suits brought by fans, association disputes, and incompletely documented court stories are not merged into one category.
