Land Rover’s current range and market-specific configurators show that trim, engine output, seating, equipment and load limits can change by country, model year and body configuration.
In the documented 2026 examples, the X-Dynamic HSE V8 is a 425 PS, eight-seat build, while a separate Defender 130 V8 configuration is rated at 500 PS and has seven seats with second-row captain chairs. Use those figures as configuration-specific evidence, not universal specifications. The correct choice depends on your local build, seating requirement and whether you need towing or roof-mounted equipment.

First, clarify what “130 X V8” means
“Defender 130 X V8” is often used as shorthand in searches, but the official names in the material available for this comparison are Defender 130 V8 and Defender 130 X-Dynamic HSE. X-Dynamic HSE is a trim designation; it is not a universal synonym for every V8-powered 130. Land Rover’s model-range page shows that engine availability changes by market and bodystyle.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThat distinction matters because the two 2026 manufacturer configurations used here are from separate market-specific documents. One is labelled a 130 X-Dynamic HSE V8 and produces 425 PS. The other is labelled a 130 V8 and produces 500 PS. Neither document proves that both versions are sold in every country, that the badges can be substituted, or that the same equipment is standard in another model year.

Engine output: the biggest documented difference
130 X-Dynamic HSE V8: 425 PS
The market-specific 2026 X-Dynamic HSE V8 configurator document lists a 5.0-litre supercharged petrol V8 with maximum power of 425 PS and maximum torque of 550 Nm. Those figures belong to the particular market and build represented by that document.
130 V8: 500 PS
A separate 2026 configurator document labelled Defender 130 V8 lists the same 5.0-litre supercharged petrol V8 with 500 PS. The cited document does not establish a torque figure for that configuration, so it would be misleading to fill the gap with the HSE document’s 550 Nm figure.

The 75 PS difference is large enough to affect the buying decision, yet it cannot be generalized across all markets. Land Rover’s current range information explicitly shows engine choices varying by market and bodystyle. A vehicle advertised locally as X-Dynamic HSE V8 may therefore not match the output shown in another country’s configurator.
Ask the retailer to provide the exact engine code or official build sheet for the vehicle being quoted. Check the power figure on that document rather than relying on a used-car advertisement, a generic brochure or the trim name alone.

Seats and cabin layout
The HSE example is an eight-seat build
The cited X-Dynamic HSE V8 configuration has eight seats. Its listed cabin specification includes Windsor leather and an Extended Leather Upgrade. This is the more relevant example for a buyer who needs maximum passenger capacity, but the eight-seat layout still needs to be confirmed on the local order sheet.
The 130 V8 example uses seven seats and captain chairs
The separate Defender 130 V8 configuration shows seven seats and second-row captain chairs. Captain chairs can make the second row feel more individual and can change how passengers move through the cabin, but they also reduce the seat count compared with the eight-seat build.

Why official pages can appear to disagree
Land Rover’s 130 V8 overview says the model seats up to eight. That is a range-level capability statement, not a guarantee that every V8 order has eight seats. The seven-seat captain-chair configuration demonstrates how selected interior layouts change the result.
When comparing two vehicles, record the number of seats, second-row layout and any third-row arrangement as separate fields. Do not infer the layout from the V8 badge or from a photograph that does not show all seating rows.
Equipment, upholstery and wheels
Land Rover’s official X-Dynamic HSE equipment page lists a substantial equipment set, including 20-inch Style 5098 wheels, Matrix LED headlights, Windsor leather seats, 14-way heated and cooled electric memory front seats, an Extended Leather Upgrade, a 13.1-inch touchscreen and a Meridian Sound System. The page also notes that engine availability varies by model and market.

The cited HSE V8 sample is configured with 22-inch Style 5098 wheels rather than the 20-inch wheels listed on that equipment page. This illustrates why an equipment-page item should not automatically be described as standard on the exact V8 build. Wheel diameter, tyre specification and other options can be selected separately.

The 130 V8 sample also shows 22-inch Style 5098 wheels, plus Windsor leather/Kvadrat trim and captain chairs. Sharing a wheel design does not establish that the two vehicles have the same tyres, ride settings, brake specification, interior package or standard equipment.
| Item | What is documented | Buyer check |
|---|---|---|
| Matrix LED headlights | Listed on the X-Dynamic HSE equipment page | Confirm inclusion on the local V8 build sheet. |

| Audio | Meridian Sound System listed for X-Dynamic HSE equipment | Do not assume it transfers to the separate 130 V8 configuration. |
| Leather | Windsor leather appears in both cited builds; the HSE sample also has an Extended Leather Upgrade, while the V8 sample lists Windsor leather/Kvadrat | Match the exact upholstery description on the order. |
| Wheels | 22-inch Style 5098 appears in both sample builds; 20-inch Style 5098 is listed on the HSE equipment page | Confirm diameter, tyre brand and load rating. |
Towing, roof loading and carrying equipment
Towing
The cited X-Dynamic HSE V8 document gives a maximum towing figure of 3,000 kg. Land Rover’s accessories information says towing weight varies by market, so this number must be treated as specific to the documented build and region. The separate 130 V8 configuration does not provide a supported towing figure in the material used here.
For a purchase, ask for the exact maximum trailer mass, nose-weight limit and any regional licensing conditions for the vehicle identification number or build sheet. Do not copy the HSE figure onto a 130 V8 quotation.
Roof racks and rooftop tents
Land Rover states in an official accessories-page footnote: “Defender V8 models have no dynamic roof loading capacity.” Dynamic roof loading refers to the load limit while the vehicle is being driven. Because the statement applies to V8 models, a V8 buyer should not assume that a roof rack, cargo box or rooftop tent is approved simply because a non-V8 Defender accessory exists.

Do not order roof equipment until the local retailer confirms the applicable vehicle and accessory rules in writing. A rooftop-tent marketing photograph is not evidence that a particular V8 has an approved dynamic roof load.
Loadspace
Land Rover’s current 130 V8 overview quotes up to 2,516 litres of loadspace, using the manufacturer’s stated volume convention. The figure depends on seating configuration, so it should not be treated as the permanently available cargo volume behind all occupied rows.
Compare the number of seats you intend to use with the loadspace measurement method used in the local specification. A seven-seat captain-chair build and an eight-seat build may not offer the same usable space in the same seating position.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Performance figures published for the 130 V8
The current Defender 130 V8 overview gives a manufacturer-stated top speed of 240 km/h (149 mph). This is a published Land Rover figure, not an independent road-test result. It should be considered alongside the market-specific power output and equipment rather than used to infer the performance of every 130 carrying a V8 badge.
The overview also repeats the 500 PS output and says the 130 V8 seats up to eight. Those statements describe the model overview; the separate seven-seat captain-chair configurator shows why the orderable specification still matters.

Price, warranty and availability
No matched local price pair or warranty comparison is established for these two configurations. A meaningful price comparison requires the same country, tax treatment, model year, seating layout, wheel and tyre package, options, delivery charges and warranty terms.
Use the local configurator and retailer quote to compare:
- the exact trim name and engine output;
- seat count and second-row configuration;
- included versus optional leather, lighting, seat and audio equipment;
- wheel diameter and tyre specification;
- tow equipment and the vehicle’s approved trailer limits;
- destination charges, taxes, registration costs and warranty duration.
A lower advertised price may simply represent a different seat layout, fewer options or a different engine output. Conversely, an apparently expensive HSE build may include selected equipment that is optional on another version.
Which configuration should you choose?
Choose the documented HSE-style build when passenger capacity is the priority
The cited X-Dynamic HSE V8 is the relevant example if you need eight seats, want the listed Windsor leather and Extended Leather Upgrade, and are evaluating a build with the published 425 PS/550 Nm output. Confirm that your market actually offers that powertrain and seating combination before treating it as an orderable specification.
Choose the documented 130 V8 build when output and captain chairs matter more
The separate 130 V8 example is the stronger fit for a buyer who specifically wants the documented 500 PS output and a seven-seat cabin with second-row captain chairs. Its equipment and carrying limits still need to be checked independently; the HSE document cannot fill those gaps.
Do not choose on the badge alone
If your priorities are towing, roof equipment, third-row capacity or a particular tyre size, the badge is an inadequate decision rule. Those requirements must be matched against the local build sheet and the applicable manufacturer limits.
How to compare a local vehicle before ordering
- Set the market and model year. Record the country in which the vehicle will be registered and the model year shown by the configurator.
- Capture the full name. Write down whether the vehicle is labelled Defender 130 V8 or Defender 130 X-Dynamic HSE V8. Do not shorten the name to “X V8” on your comparison sheet.
- Verify the engine line. Check displacement, fuel type and the exact PS figure on the official configurator or retailer build document.
- Record the cabin layout. Note total seats, second-row bench or captain chairs, and whether the third row is included.
- Separate standard equipment from options. Mark each item as included, selected at extra cost or not stated. Pay particular attention to leather upgrades, seats, headlights, touchscreen, audio and wheels.
- Check wheels and tyres together. Diameter alone does not identify the tyre specification or carrying limit. Ask for the complete wheel-and-tyre line.
- Request towing documentation. Confirm the maximum trailer mass and any regional restrictions for the exact vehicle.
- Resolve roof-load questions in writing. For a V8, ask specifically how Land Rover’s “no dynamic roof loading capacity” statement affects the rack or tent equipment you intend to use.
- Compare the final drive-away price. Include taxes, delivery, registration, options and warranty terms before deciding which build costs less.
Common comparison mistakes
- Assuming every 130 V8 has 500 PS. The 500 PS figure belongs to the cited 130 V8 configuration; the cited X-Dynamic HSE V8 document lists 425 PS.
- Assuming every V8 has eight seats. The model overview says up to eight, while the documented V8 build has seven captain-chair seats.
- Calling listed equipment standard. Equipment-page listings and personalized configurator selections are not interchangeable.
- Transferring towing limits. The 3,000 kg number is documented for the cited HSE build and should not be copied to another configuration.
- Planning a rooftop tent from a generic Defender accessory image. Land Rover’s stated V8 roof-loading limitation must be addressed first.
- Comparing prices from different markets. Currency, taxes, options and model-year content can make two advertised prices incomparable.
Final buying guidance
Start by deciding whether your local vehicle must have eight seats or whether seven captain-chair seats are acceptable. Then verify the engine output: the documented examples differ from 425 PS to 500 PS even though both use a 5.0-litre supercharged petrol V8. After that, audit the selected equipment, towing figure and roof-use restrictions on the exact order sheet.
Recommended Free Tools
The safest conclusion is not that one badge is universally better. The better purchase is the configuration whose local documentation matches your required power, seating, equipment and carrying limits. Treat the 2026 figures here as reference points for identifying those differences, not as a substitute for a market-specific specification.
