The full lineup is commonly dated to 1999, after an earlier plan to begin U.S. sales with the Leganza. Sales rose quickly, peaked in 2000 in a compiled historical series, then fell; Daewoo stopped selling cars in the U.S. in 2002.
Which Daewoo models were sold in the United States?
Daewoo’s U.S. passenger-car lineup consisted of three models. CARFAX describes all three as launched in 1999 and discontinued in 2002, when the brand stopped selling cars in the U.S. CARFAX’s history of Daewoo cars identifies their market segments:

| Model | Market segment | Role in the U.S. lineup |
|---|---|---|
| Lanos | Subcompact | Smallest of the three models |
| Nubira | Compact | Middle-size model |
| Leganza | Midsize | Largest model in the lineup |
Daewoo Motor America’s 1999 model-year launch announcement also names the Lanos, Nubira and Leganza. Its promotional claims about particular trims were company-reported, rather than independent comparisons.
When did Daewoo enter the U.S. market?
The chronology depends on whether “entry” means the announced plan or the three-model retail lineup. A 1997 Los Angeles Times report described a planned U.S. launch led by the midsize Leganza, with the Lanos and Nubira to follow. That report documents the plan; it does not establish that all three cars were on sale in 1997. CARFAX retrospectively dates the three-model U.S. launch to 1999.

What was Daewoo’s U.S. retail network like?
In its December 2001 sales report, Daewoo Motor America said it sold the Lanos, Nubira and Leganza through a nationwide network of more than 500 retail locations. That is a company-reported figure for that period, not evidence of a current dealer, parts or service network.

What should owners know about recalls and support?
A 2004 NHTSA recall notice covered certain Daewoo Lanos and Leganza passenger cars. The notice specifies these model years and production dates:
| Model | Model years covered | Production dates covered |
|---|---|---|
| Lanos | 1998–2003 | March 9, 1997 through December 20, 2002 |
| Leganza | 1998–2002 | June 3, 1997 through December 5, 2001 |
Those ranges do not mean every car of the named models was affected. Consult the NHTSA recall information and use its current VIN lookup to check a specific vehicle’s recall status; the notice itself is the authority for the exact recall scope. The available historical information does not establish current U.S. parts availability or identify an authoritative current Daewoo service network.

What happened after Daewoo stopped U.S. sales?
CARFAX says Daewoo discontinued its U.S. cars when the brand stopped selling cars in the country in 2002. The cited sources do not establish the precise chronology of the company’s corporate failure or the subsequent GM transaction, so those events should not be presented as a proven single cause of the end of U.S. sales.
