The Dacia Bigster is the better fit when you need more family space, luggage capacity or a camping-friendly layout; the Dacia Duster is the better fit when a lower purchase price and a more compact SUV footprint matter most. In Dacia UK’s price guide dated 1 October 2026, the entry Bigster costs £25,215 on the road and the entry Duster £21,845, a £3,370 difference. Those are UK manufacturer list prices for orders through 31 December 2026, not dealer quotes or prices for other countries.
Both ranges offer electrified engines, including hybrid 155 and hybrid-G 150 4×4 versions in the UK guide. The right choice depends on how regularly you carry rear passengers or bulky luggage, whether you need LPG or four-wheel drive, and whether the Bigster’s extra space justifies its higher price. “Renault Bigster” is a common search description, but the vehicle is marketed as a Dacia Bigster.

Bigster vs Duster at a glance
| Question | Better fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Which has the lower entry price? | Duster | The UK guide lists the Duster Expression mild hybrid 140 at £21,845, versus £25,215 for the equivalent entry Bigster. |
| Which suits a family carrying more luggage? | Bigster | Dacia positions it as the larger family SUV, and its official technical sheet lists up to 702 litres under the luggage cover in one configuration. Actual capacity varies with engine and spare-wheel equipment. |
| Which is easier to place in tight urban spaces? | Duster | The Duster is the more compact model in the range. Check both cars in person because a current, directly comparable Duster dimension table was not available with the Bigster figures. |
| Which offers a seven-seat option? | Neither confirmed | The available Bigster specifications do not establish a seven-seat version, and no seven-seat Duster specification is established here. |
| Which offers hybrid power? | Both | The UK guide lists mild hybrid 140, hybrid 155 and hybrid-G 150 4×4 choices, subject to trim and market availability. |
| Which is the safer choice for towing? | Depends on exact variant | Bigster towing figures vary sharply by powertrain in the technical sheet, so the registration-specific or local-market specification must be checked before ordering. |
This is a fit decision rather than a universal winner. A price-sensitive driver who mostly carries one or two people may gain little from moving up to the Bigster. A household that routinely uses child seats, a full rear bench and holiday luggage is more likely to value the larger model.
What do the two SUVs cost in the UK?
Dacia UK’s price guide, dated 1 October 2026, states that the listed on-the-road prices apply to orders placed through 31 December 2026. They are UK manufacturer list prices. Registration charges, dealer offers, finance terms and equipment availability can change the amount you actually pay.

| Model and trim | Mild hybrid 140 | Hybrid 155 | Hybrid-G 150 4×4 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Duster Expression | £21,845 | £23,345 | Not listed for this trim |
| Duster Journey | £23,545 | £25,045 | Not listed for this trim |
| Duster Extreme | £24,345 | £25,845 | £26,845 |
| Bigster Expression | £25,215 | £26,715 | Not listed for this trim |
| Bigster Journey | £26,765 | £28,265 | £29,265 |
| Bigster Extreme | £27,015 | £28,515 | £29,515 |
At entry level, the Bigster costs £3,370 more than the Duster (£25,215 minus £21,845). The price gap is not identical at every trim because the two ranges do not present exactly the same combination of engines and equipment in every grade. A matched trim and engine comparison is therefore more useful than comparing the cheapest car in one range with a highly equipped car in the other.
The guide also lists a panoramic opening sunroof on Bigster Journey and as standard on Bigster Extreme. A space-saver spare wheel is shown as an option across Bigster trims, while the 4×4 spare wheel is listed only for Bigster Extreme. Do not assume that an accessory shown elsewhere in the guide is included in the vehicle price.
Is the Bigster actually bigger than the Duster?
Yes, the Bigster is positioned as Dacia’s larger family model, but the available specifications do not provide a single, same-market, same-model-year table that allows a precise numerical Bigster-versus-Duster size delta. The Bigster technical sheet lists an overall length of 4,570 mm and a 2,702 mm wheelbase. Those figures explain why it is aimed at buyers who need more room, but they should not be turned into an unsupported claim about exactly how many millimetres longer it is than a particular Duster.
The practical test is more important than the headline dimensions. Bring your own child seats, pushchair, suitcases or camping boxes to a dealer and try them in both vehicles. Check rear-seat knee room with the driver’s seat set for the tallest regular driver, measure the opening rather than only the floor, and test whether the luggage cover can remain fitted with your normal load.
Bigster boot capacity depends on configuration
Dacia’s Bigster technical characteristics document reports several capacities rather than one universal boot number. The figures below are reproduced as configuration-dependent values; the document distinguishes equipment and spare-wheel arrangements.

| Bigster configuration shown in the technical sheet | Boot volume under luggage cover | Seats folded |
|---|---|---|
| Listed configuration with no spare wheel | 660 litres | 1,960 litres |
| Listed configuration with repair kit / spare wheel | 702 / 681 litres | 2,002 / 1,981 litres |
| Another listed configuration with repair kit / spare wheel | 629 / 556 litres | 1,929 / 1,856 litres |
| Another listed configuration with repair kit / spare wheel | 612 / 566 litres | 1,912 / 1,866 litres |
The maximum published figure, 702 litres, is therefore not a capacity that applies to every Bigster. Engine, drivetrain, wheel and spare-wheel choices can change the usable space. The retrieved specifications do not provide a directly comparable Duster boot table, so no responsible article can promise a precise litre advantage for every Duster-versus-Bigster pairing.
Camping and sleeping equipment
Dacia announced a Bigster Sleep Pack consisting of a boot box and mattress. The 2026 UK guide lists Sleep Pack + and Sleep Pack Ultimate configurations, including blackout blinds and a mattress/box, plus a camping pack with a tailgate tent. These are market-specific paid accessories, not proof that every Bigster includes sleeping equipment as standard. Ask the retailer to itemise each pack and confirm compatibility with the chosen trim and spare-wheel setup.

The UK guide lists three broad powertrain names for both SUVs: mild hybrid 140, hybrid 155 and hybrid-G 150 4×4. Naming and availability can differ by country and production date, so use the local configurator and the vehicle’s final technical sheet before placing an order.
| Powertrain | What the Bigster technical information says | What to check before buying |
|---|---|---|
| Mild hybrid 140 | 1.2-litre petrol engine with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system; listed in two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive forms in the technical sheet. | Whether the desired market and trim offers 4×4, and the final towing rating. |
| Hybrid 155 | 1.8-litre hybrid system, 230-volt electrical architecture and an automatic multimode transmission; the technical sheet lists 4×2 drive. | Exact equipment, battery warranty terms and whether the local car is the same specification as the sheet. |
| Hybrid-G 150 4×4 | The November 2025 announcement describes a bi-fuel LPG/petrol automatic system with a 48-volt, 0.84-kWh battery and an electric motor connected to the rear wheels. | Local availability, LPG filling stations, tank placement, payload and the certified towing figure. |
The technical sheet also labels a hybrid-G 140 fuel description as petrol/LPG/electric, with dual-fuel capacity, a 48-volt battery and four-wheel drive. The UK guide uses the name hybrid-G 150 4×4. Treat those labels as market- and document-specific rather than assuming they describe one globally identical vehicle.
What the hybrid-G 150 4×4 system is intended to do
Dacia’s November 2025 announcement says the hybrid-G 150 4×4 has separate 50-litre petrol and LPG tanks and can run in electric mode for up to 60% of the time in an urban cycle. That is a manufacturer’s operating claim, not an independent road-test result. The same announcement gives a claimed WLTP range of up to 1,500 km for the Duster without refuelling. Range depends on the certified test configuration and fuel availability, so drivers should not treat it as a guaranteed distance in normal use.

Fuel economy, emissions and what the figures mean
All consumption figures below are WLTP results quoted by Dacia for specific market variants. WLTP is a laboratory test cycle; traffic, temperature, tyres, terrain, payload, roof equipment and driving style change real consumption.

| Bigster hybrid-G 150 4×4 | 7.2 l/100 km LPG; 5.9 l/100 km petrol | Starting WLTP consumption figures from the same manufacturer announcement. |
The announcement gives starting CO₂ figures of 117 g/km on LPG and 135 g/km on petrol for the Duster hybrid-G 150 4×4, and 117 g/km on LPG and 134 g/km on petrol for the Bigster. These are certified starting values for the announced variants, not a promise that every trim will produce the same result.
On the UK guide’s figures, the Duster hybrid 155 has a higher official mpg range than the Bigster hybrid 155, while the Duster mild hybrid 140 also has a small stated advantage. That does not establish a real-world fuel-cost winner: the cars may have different tyres, equipment, loads and routes, and no independent consumption test is available here.
Four-wheel drive, LPG and towing
When 4×4 is worth paying for
Four-wheel drive is relevant if you regularly use muddy tracks, steep unpaved roads, snow-prone routes or a towing setup that benefits from extra traction. It adds complexity, weight and, depending on the version, different boot and spare-wheel arrangements. If your driving is almost entirely paved urban and motorway work, compare the cost and payload penalty with the occasions on which you would actually use it.
LPG ownership practicalities
The hybrid-G system can reduce dependence on petrol where LPG is readily available, but it only makes financial and practical sense if you have convenient LPG stations on your normal routes. Confirm tank capacity, the location of both filler points, boot-space implications and whether your preferred retailer can service the system. Fuel prices and tax treatment vary by country, so a euro price or a UK running-cost assumption cannot be transferred between markets.

Towing and payload need a VIN-level check
The Bigster technical document lists maximum braked towing weights of 1,500 kg for three listed mild-hybrid variants and 1 kg for the hybrid 155 column. The 1 kg entry is likely a specification limitation rather than a meaningful towing recommendation, but the document’s configuration table must be checked against the exact vehicle. Maximum unbraked figures shown are 740, 710, 750 and 745 kg by powertrain column. Listed payloads range from 451 to 542 kg.
Those numbers are not a blanket approval to tow a particular caravan. Ask for the local certificate of conformity or registration-specific technical sheet, then compare the permitted trailer mass, nose weight, gross vehicle weight and the loaded vehicle’s actual payload. Include passengers, luggage, roof boxes and accessories in the payload calculation.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Trim and equipment differences that can change the decision
Trim names alone do not guarantee identical equipment between the two ranges. The UK guide separates Expression, Journey and Extreme, but local specifications and option packs can differ.
Expression
Expression is the entry point in the UK price guide. It is the logical place to start if keeping the purchase price low matters more than convenience features, but compare the standard safety, infotainment, wheel and parking equipment line by line before assuming the cheaper car has everything you need.
Journey
Journey adds access to equipment such as the Bigster panoramic opening sunroof according to the UK guide. The guide also lists the Bigster Sleep Pack configurations in this broader accessory context. Ask whether the exact vehicle includes the sunroof or whether it is tied to a package, and obtain the price after options rather than comparing headline trim prices.

Extreme
Extreme is the only Bigster trim in the UK guide that lists the hybrid-G 150 4×4 and its 4×4 spare wheel. It also lists the panoramic opening sunroof as standard. The corresponding Duster Extreme provides the widest Duster powertrain choice in the table, including hybrid-G 150 4×4, but equipment and drivetrain should still be confirmed on the local order form.
Accessories and protection
The guide lists accessories including floor mats, dash cameras, tow bars and Sleep Pack variants. Bigster rubber floor mats are a sensible cabin-protection option, but check the model year, trim, drivetrain and mounting points before ordering any aftermarket item. An accessory price is not part of the vehicle’s list price unless the order explicitly includes it.
Which is better for a family?
Choose the Bigster when space is used every week
- You regularly carry adults in the rear seats as well as child seats.
- Your normal luggage includes a pushchair, sports equipment, several suitcases or camping gear.
- You want the option of a factory-listed mattress, boot box or tailgate-tent pack.
- You can absorb the higher purchase price and have verified the exact boot configuration.
The Bigster’s published dimensions and configuration-dependent luggage volumes support its role as the roomier family model. The final decision should still be made with your own seats and bags loaded into both cars, because spare wheels and powertrains alter the usable compartment.
Choose the Duster when compactness and budget dominate
- The £3,370 entry-price difference in the 1 October 2026 UK guide would be better spent on finance reduction, fuel or essential accessories.
- You mostly carry one or two occupants and do not need the Bigster’s maximum luggage flexibility.
- You prefer a smaller SUV footprint for parking, narrow streets or regular urban use.
- You want the Duster hybrid 155’s higher published UK WLTP mpg range, while accepting that laboratory figures are not real-world guarantees.
The Duster is not automatically the economical choice after options, finance interest, insurance and fuel are included. Price the two cars with the same engine, comparable equipment and the accessories you would actually buy.
Which is better for long trips and mixed driving?
For motorway journeys with a full load, the Bigster’s extra carrying flexibility may be worth more than a small difference in official mpg. For predominantly urban driving, the hybrid systems and the hybrid-G’s claimed electric urban operation are relevant, but route conditions and charging or LPG access determine the result. Neither model should be selected solely from a single WLTP number.
If you travel to remote areas, compare ground clearance, tyre specification, underbody protection and the availability of the 4×4 version in your country. If you tow, make that requirement decisive: the unusual 1 kg hybrid-155 entry in the Bigster technical table means the exact powertrain must be confirmed before you assume it can pull a trailer.
A practical buying process
- Fix your market and deadline. Use the price guide or configurator for the country where the vehicle will be registered. The UK figures in this article apply to orders through 31 December 2026 under the guide dated 1 October 2026.
- Choose the required drive system first. Decide whether you need 4×4, LPG, an automatic transmission or a specific towing limit before comparing trims.
- Build a like-for-like quote. Match engine, trim, paint, wheels, spare wheel, sunroof, tow bar and any Sleep Pack. Keep accessories separate so the vehicle price remains clear.
- Test your real load. Bring child seats, the largest suitcase, pushchair, sports kit or camping box. Test the rear-seat position and the luggage cover, not just the boot opening.
- Check the technical certificate. Verify boot configuration, payload, braked and unbraked towing limits, gross vehicle weight and tyre loads for the exact vehicle identification number or local order specification.
- Calculate running costs with local data. Use local petrol and LPG prices, annual mileage, insurance and servicing. Treat every quoted WLTP result as a comparison test, not a promise.
- Compare the final delivered price. Include registration, dealer charges, finance interest and required accessories. A cheaper list price can disappear if it needs options that are standard on the other car.
Strengths and compromises
| Bigster | Duster | |
|---|---|---|
| Strengths | Larger family orientation; published boot figures up to 702 litres in one configuration; longer 4,570 mm body and 2,702 mm wheelbase; Sleep Pack and camping-pack options; hybrid-G 150 4×4 listed in Journey and Extreme. | Lower entry price; more compact footprint; UK guide lists a higher hybrid-155 WLTP mpg range; broad choice of mild hybrid, hybrid and 4×4 versions. |
| Compromises | £3,370 more at entry in the cited UK guide; boot capacity changes by configuration; towing data is highly variant-dependent; higher trims and accessories can raise the price quickly. | Less suited to households needing maximum luggage flexibility; a directly comparable current boot-volume and dimension table was not available here; some equipment and 4×4 combinations are trim-limited. |
Verdict: which SUV fits your needs?
Buy the Bigster if your priority is a larger, more flexible family vehicle and you will use that extra capacity often enough to justify the UK guide’s £3,370 entry premium. Select the Duster if the lower price, easier compact-SUV footprint and sufficient everyday space are more valuable than maximum luggage room.
