Tesla’s Cybertruck delivery pause was first reported on March 13, 2025, after buyers and delivery agents described postponed handovers and a “containment hold.” A week later, Tesla announced a recall for a cantrail panel that could come loose while driving. The sequence links the reported hold to the trim issue, but Tesla had not publicly confirmed the hold’s cause when the first report appeared.
What happened to Cybertruck deliveries?
On March 13, 2025, Electrek reported that some Cybertruck buyers had been told their scheduled deliveries were postponed. Delivery agents reportedly described a “containment hold,” with concern focused on the cantrail trim. At that point, Tesla had not issued a public service bulletin confirming why deliveries were being held. The pause was reported from customer and delivery-agent accounts, not announced publicly by Tesla. Electrek’s March 13 report covered those accounts.
On March 20, Tesla announced a recall addressing the cantrail panel. That later notice identified a defect mechanism and remedy, but the available reporting does not establish a universal date when deliveries resumed, how long any individual buyer waited, or how many repairs have been completed since. Electrek’s March 20 report described the recall and its scope.
Why could the cantrail panel come off?
Tesla described the cantrail as an exterior cosmetic applique: a stainless-steel panel joined to the vehicle with structural adhesive and fasteners. Tesla’s recall description, reproduced by Electrek, said: “The Cybertruck is equipped with a cosmetic applique along the exterior of the vehicle, known as the cant rail, which is an assembly comprised of an electrocoated steel stamping joined to a stainless steel panel with structural adhesive.”

On affected vehicles, the panel could delaminate at the adhesive joint and separate from the truck while it was being driven, creating a road hazard. This is the cantrail issue addressed by the March 2025 recall; it should not be conflated with earlier, separate Cybertruck trim recalls.
Which Cybertrucks were included?
Tesla’s recall description covered certain model year 2024 and 2025 Cybertrucks manufactured from November 13, 2023, through February 27, 2025. Electrek reported a U.S. recall population of 46,096 vehicles on March 20, 2025; the Associated Press described it as more than 46,000 Cybertrucks. That figure refers to the U.S. recall population, not worldwide Cybertruck production. The Associated Press report covered the recall.

The production window helps identify potentially affected vehicles, but it does not by itself establish whether a specific truck still needs service. Check the vehicle identification number (VIN) through Tesla or the NHTSA recall lookup for vehicle-specific status.

If you already own a Cybertruck
- Check your VIN using Tesla’s recall information or the NHTSA recall lookup.
- If the lookup shows an open cantrail recall, contact Tesla through its service process to arrange the repair.
- Have Tesla perform the recall remedy. Generic adhesive, fasteners, or trim tools are not substitutes for the specified repair.
Tesla’s stated remedy is replacement of the cantrail assembly with a version meeting durability requirements. Tesla says recall service is free regardless of vehicle age or mileage. Its recall support page lists the Cybertruck cantrail replacement.

If your delivery was postponed
Contact your Tesla delivery representative for the status of your specific handover. The March 2025 reports do not establish a single resumption date for all deliveries or a standard hold duration. Tesla said vehicles still in its possession would be repaired before delivery.
