Before its planned 460-mile Arctic journey began, a three-person Tesla enthusiast team was already reporting waits and charging hiccups on the way to its Yukon starting point. In an Aug. 29, 2024 report, Futurism relayed participants’ accounts of a charger repeatedly shutting off, an hour-long wait for a single post, and an adapter that took several attempts to work. Those reports describe this team’s trip—not a measured test of Cybertruck range or a survey of northern Canada’s charging network.
What the team reported before the expedition
Futurism’s Aug. 29, 2024 story described a planned six-day, 460-mile drive from a Klondike gold-rush town in Yukon, across the Arctic Circle, to the Arctic Ocean. The route was due to start later that week. The article documented charging trouble en route to the starting point, rather than results from the expedition itself.
A charger that kept shutting off
According to Futurism, expedition participant Bearded Tesla said an earlier charging unit shut off every five minutes. The report does not identify the station or independently establish why the interruptions occurred.
A long wait at a single Yukon post
Bearded Tesla said the team waited about an hour to use the only charging post at a Yukon stop, then expected to charge for about two and a half hours to reach the next charger. He described that post as free because it was the only one at the stop. That was his explanation of that particular location, not evidence that charging is generally free in Yukon.

An adapter that took repeated attempts
Futurism also reported that Teslatino contacted BC Hydro about when the province would add NACS-compatible connectors at new charging stations. At a BC Hydro station with CCS equipment, Teslatino said an adapter worked only after five attempts across two stalls. The report does not identify the adapter model, so this incident does not establish that any particular adapter would have worked better.
What the account does—and does not—show
The figures describe one team’s planned trip and participant-reported experiences. They are not a general Cybertruck range test, a measurement of charging-network performance, or proof that every station in northern Canada is unreliable. The article said the expedition was expected to begin later that week; it does not establish whether the team completed the route or what happened afterward.

Practical charging checks for a Cybertruck
Tesla’s Cybertruck charging manual and cold-weather guidance offer useful checks for drivers, though neither explains the specific failures described in the 2024 report.
Check connector compatibility and station activation
- Tesla says drivers using a public station without a NACS connector need an appropriate adapter, and warns against third-party charging adapters. The 2024 report does not name the adapter used, so it cannot support a recommendation for a specific model.
- Depending on the station equipment, charging may also require activation at the station.
Confirm that charging has actually started
Tesla’s manual says a green blinking charge-port light indicates charging. Blue means a charger is connected but charging is not active; amber can indicate a connector-fit or reduced-current issue; red indicates a fault that stopped charging. Tesla advises confirming the green blinking light before leaving the vehicle.

Prepare the battery for cold-weather charging
Tesla says using Trip Planner navigation to a Tesla charging location preheats the high-voltage battery. Its guidance recommends navigating for 30–45 minutes before arrival for optimal battery temperature and charging conditions. Cold can limit charging rates, and scheduled preconditioning can help prevent the charge-port latch from freezing. Battery preheating cannot make an unavailable, occupied, or faulty charger usable.

The report gives no live station-status data, current route map, or independently verified charger-spacing statistics. A 2024 participant account also cannot establish present-day availability along the route. Drivers planning a trip need to verify connector compatibility, activation or payment requirements, the number of working stalls, route spacing, and backup stops using current station information.
