Mercedes-Benz USA’s current two-door sports-car lineup ranges from the AMG SL 43 Roadster, with a manufacturer-estimated 0–60 mph time of 4.6 seconds, to the AMG GT 63 S E PERFORMANCE Coupe, estimated at 2.7 seconds. The top two positions belong to Mercedes-AMG’s 805-hp E PERFORMANCE V8 hybrids.

This ranking covers only the current U.S.-market AMG GT Coupe and AMG SL Roadster families. It uses Mercedes-Benz USA’s published 0–60 mph estimates—not independent road-test results—and ranks lower times as quicker.

Current Mercedes-AMG sports cars ranked by 0–60 mph

The list below runs from slowest to quickest according to Mercedes-Benz USA’s manufacturer-estimated acceleration figures. Equal published times remain ties; horsepower, body style, or track-focused equipment is not used to break them.

Rank Model Mercedes-Benz USA 0–60 mph estimate Key specification
9 AMG SL 43 Roadster 4.6 seconds 416 hp, turbo-hybrid inline-four, rear-wheel drive
8 AMG GT 43 Coupe 4.5 seconds 416 hp
6= AMG SL 55 Roadster 3.8 seconds 469-hp biturbo V8
6= AMG GT 55 Coupe 3.8 seconds 469-hp biturbo V8
5 AMG SL 63 Roadster 3.5 seconds 577-hp biturbo V8
3= AMG GT 63 Coupe 3.1 seconds 577 hp, 590 lb-ft
3= AMG GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+ Coupe 3.1 seconds 603 hp, 627 lb-ft
2 AMG SL 63 S E PERFORMANCE Roadster 2.8 seconds 805 hp, 1,047 lb-ft
1 AMG GT 63 S E PERFORMANCE Coupe 2.7 seconds 805 hp, V8 hybrid, AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive

Note: The ranking numbers reflect tied positions. Mercedes’ published figures do not establish a difference between the two models listed at 3.8 seconds or the two listed at 3.1 seconds.

1. Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E PERFORMANCE Coupe — 2.7 seconds

The AMG GT 63 S E PERFORMANCE is the quickest current Mercedes two-door sports car in this U.S.-market comparison. Mercedes-Benz rates it at 805 horsepower and quotes a 2.7-second 0–60 mph time.

Its acceleration advantage comes from combining a high-output AMG V8 with a rear electric motor and AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive. That combination places it one tenth of a second ahead of the open-top SL 63 S E PERFORMANCE on Mercedes’ own estimates.

The 2.7-second figure is a manufacturer estimate, not a guarantee that every example will achieve that result. Launch surface, tires, temperature, payload, and launch procedure can all affect an actual run.

2. Mercedes-AMG SL 63 S E PERFORMANCE Roadster — 2.8 seconds

The SL 63 S E PERFORMANCE is the quickest convertible in this defined Mercedes lineup, with an estimated 0–60 mph time of 2.8 seconds. Mercedes lists 805 hp and 1,047 lb-ft for the V8-hybrid roadster.

Mercedes describes this as the most powerful SL it has produced. That is a Mercedes-AMG characterization, and it should not be confused with an independent comparison against every historical or non-U.S. SL configuration.

Compared with the GT 63 S E PERFORMANCE, the SL gives up one tenth of a second in the published sprint. Both cars use the same broad E PERFORMANCE formula—an AMG V8 paired with substantial electric assistance—but their body styles and product positioning differ.

3= Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Coupe and GT 63 PRO — 3.1 seconds

AMG GT 63 Coupe

The standard AMG GT 63 Coupe is estimated to reach 60 mph in 3.1 seconds. Mercedes lists 577 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque for this biturbo-V8 model.

AMG GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+

The AMG GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+ carries higher published output—603 horsepower and 627 lb-ft—but Mercedes also quotes a 3.1-second 0–60 mph time. That makes it an honest tie with the regular GT 63 for this particular ranking.

The PRO’s extra power and specialized hardware may matter in other forms of performance evaluation, particularly when considering sustained or track-oriented use. However, the available evidence here does not provide a separate 0–60 result, so horsepower cannot be used to invent a quicker ranking position.

5. Mercedes-AMG SL 63 Roadster — 3.5 seconds

The non-hybrid AMG SL 63 Roadster occupies fifth place at a manufacturer-estimated 3.5 seconds to 60 mph. It uses a 577-hp biturbo V8.

That makes the SL 63 substantially quicker on paper than the SL 55 below it, while the E PERFORMANCE SL 63 sits another 0.7 second ahead in Mercedes’ published estimates. The names are similar, but the “S E PERFORMANCE” designation identifies a very different V8-hybrid powertrain.

6= Mercedes-AMG SL 55 Roadster and GT 55 Coupe — 3.8 seconds

AMG SL 55 Roadster

The AMG SL 55 Roadster is estimated at 3.8 seconds from 0 to 60 mph and uses a 469-hp biturbo V8.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

AMG GT 55 Coupe

The AMG GT 55 Coupe receives the same 3.8-second estimate and the same 469-hp biturbo-V8 output cited for this comparison.

Neither should be called quicker than the other on the basis of Mercedes’ stated acceleration numbers. The SL offers open-air roadster design, while the GT is the fixed-roof coupe; that distinction may be important to a buyer, but it does not change this acceleration tie.

8. Mercedes-AMG GT 43 Coupe — 4.5 seconds

The entry AMG GT 43 Coupe is estimated at 4.5 seconds to 60 mph. Mercedes lists 416 horsepower for the model.

It is only one tenth quicker than the SL 43 on the published figures, despite the two models sharing the same quoted horsepower. That small difference is worth reporting, but it is not enough evidence to conclude that one platform is inherently better or more capable overall.

9. Mercedes-AMG SL 43 Roadster — 4.6 seconds

The AMG SL 43 Roadster is the slowest car in this narrowly defined ranking, with a Mercedes-estimated 4.6-second 0–60 mph time. It uses a 416-hp turbo-hybrid inline-four and rear-wheel drive.

“Slowest” is relative here: a 4.6-second manufacturer estimate still places the SL 43 firmly in modern performance-car territory. It simply trails the other current AMG GT and SL variants when the only sorting criterion is the quoted 0–60 sprint.

What this ranking reveals about the lineup

E PERFORMANCE electrification dominates the top

The two quickest cars are the GT 63 S E PERFORMANCE and SL 63 S E PERFORMANCE. Both are rated at 805 horsepower and 1,047 lb-ft, and both use a V8-hybrid powertrain. The GT’s 2.7-second estimate gives it the overall win, while the SL’s 2.8-second estimate makes it the quickest open-top model in this comparison.

The result illustrates the role of electrification in the current range: the hybrid models sit ahead of the conventional V8 cars in the manufacturer’s acceleration figures.

The GT 63 PRO is not a quicker 0–60 car than the GT 63

The GT 63 PRO has more rated power and torque than the regular GT 63, but both are quoted at 3.1 seconds to 60 mph. The PRO may be aimed at a different kind of performance priority, yet this article ranks published acceleration only. It therefore shares third place rather than receiving a made-up advantage.

The SL 43 and GT 43 show why horsepower alone is not a ranking system

Mercedes lists 416 horsepower for both the SL 43 and GT 43, but the GT 43’s estimated 4.5-second time is one tenth quicker than the SL 43’s 4.6 seconds. That difference could reflect factors beyond headline output, but the published data does not justify a broader mechanical explanation.

How to interpret Mercedes’ 0–60 estimates

These numbers are useful for comparing Mercedes’ own models because they use the same unit and the same general performance metric. They are not independent instrumented tests, and they should not be presented as results every driver will reproduce.

  • Surface: traction and pavement condition can change launch performance.
  • Tires: tire type, condition, temperature, and pressure affect grip.
  • Weather: ambient temperature and other conditions can influence engine and tire performance.
  • Payload: occupants, luggage, and fuel load alter the vehicle’s mass.
  • Launch procedure: the selected drive mode and launch technique can affect the result.

For those reasons, a tenth-of-a-second gap should not be treated as a universal real-world advantage. It is especially important for the SL 43 versus GT 43 comparison, where the difference is only 0.1 second, and for the top two E PERFORMANCE cars, where the difference is also only 0.1 second.

What is excluded from this Mercedes ranking?

This is not a list of every Mercedes model that could be described as sporty or fast. It deliberately excludes the AMG GT 4-Door and the CLE Coupe. Those vehicles may offer serious performance, but they belong to different product categories from the dedicated two-door AMG GT Coupe and AMG SL Roadster families.

The exclusion is a scope decision, not a statement that either excluded model is slow. Including sedans, four-door coupes, or other Mercedes performance vehicles would make the comparison less consistent with the title’s focus on the current dedicated two-door sports-car families.

For enthusiasts: a fitting display piece

If you want a physical reminder of the car at the top of this ranking, a Mercedes-AMG GT 1:18 diecast model car is a natural enthusiast collectible. It is a display item, not an automotive part or a substitute for checking the specifications and equipment of a full-size GT.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the quickest current Mercedes sports car?

Within the current U.S.-market AMG GT Coupe and AMG SL Roadster families, the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E PERFORMANCE Coupe is quickest by Mercedes-Benz USA’s estimate, with a 2.7-second 0–60 mph time.

What is the quickest current Mercedes roadster?

The Mercedes-AMG SL 63 S E PERFORMANCE Roadster is the quickest open-top model in this scope, with a manufacturer-estimated 0–60 mph time of 2.8 seconds.

Is the AMG GT 63 PRO quicker than the regular GT 63?

Not according to Mercedes-Benz USA’s published 0–60 estimates. Both the AMG GT 63 and GT 63 PRO are quoted at 3.1 seconds, so they are tied for this ranking even though the PRO has higher listed power and torque.

Are these independent test results?

No. The figures are Mercedes-Benz USA manufacturer estimates. Independent tests can produce different results because of tires, weather, surface, payload, launch procedure, and test equipment.

Why are the AMG GT 4-Door and CLE Coupe missing?

This ranking is limited to Mercedes-AMG’s two dedicated current U.S. two-door sports-car families: the AMG GT Coupe and AMG SL Roadster. The AMG GT 4-Door and CLE Coupe are separate categories.
