The Crighton CR700W is a limited-production, track-focused motorcycle powered by a 690cc twin-rotor Wankel engine. Its headline 220 hp output is the race-exhaust figure; BikeBound reports 206 hp for the Track Day exhaust configuration. New Atlas put the complete motorcycle at 129.5 kg (285.5 lb) dry in 2021.
What is the Crighton CR700W?
The CR700W is a specialist racing and track motorcycle built around a compact rotary engine, rather than a conventional piston engine. The project is associated with Brian Crighton, whose earlier work included Norton rotary racers. New Atlas recounts that he developed a 588cc Norton Commander engine from 85 hp to 140 hp and later raced twin-rotor machines in British championships; BikeBound provides a longer account of the Norton RC-series development and subsequent racing milestones. Those histories are secondary-source summaries.
New Atlas describes a Spondon-derived aluminum-alloy frame, Dymag carbon wheels, and a choice of Öhlins or Bitubo adjustable suspension in its 2021 feature. BikeBound’s September 2026 specification table instead lists Öhlins FGR250 front forks, a bespoke Öhlins TTX GP rear shock, Brembo GP4-RX calipers and twin 320 mm front discs. These are reported specifications from different accounts, not a guarantee that every CR700W has identical equipment.
How much power does the CR700W make?
It depends on the exhaust configuration. BikeBound’s September 2026 feature gives 206 hp at 10,500 rpm with the Track Day exhaust and 220 hp at 10,500 rpm with the optional titanium-and-Inconel race exhaust. It reports 105 lb-ft of torque at 9,500 rpm. The 220 hp headline therefore describes the race-exhaust setup, not every configuration.

Rotron Power’s RT700-XE technical datasheet lists a 690cc twin-rotor Wankel engine, maximum output of 220 hp at 10,500 rpm and maximum torque of 105 ft-lb. It also specifies fuel injection, liquid cooling, a performance/racing application and unleaded fuel rated at 95 octane or higher. The datasheet describes the engine as suitable for aerospace and high-endurance UAV applications as well; it is an engine specification, not by itself certification of CR700W motorcycle fitment or proof of the complete motorcycle’s output.
BikeBound describes the complete power unit as roughly 44–46 kg depending on specification, while its estimate for the core engine alone is about 24 kg. These figures have a different scope from Rotron’s 43 kg system-weight figure, and should not be treated as interchangeable component weights.

How much does it weigh?
New Atlas reported a dry weight of 129.5 kg (285.5 lb) for the complete motorcycle in 2021. That is a motorcycle-level figure from its coverage, not the weight given by Rotron for the engine system. Dry weight also is not the same as a ready-to-ride weight: the cited figure does not establish the bike’s weight with fuel and operating fluids.
Power-to-weight comparisons need the same care. A comparison with a production superbike can change depending on whether the CR700W uses its Track Day or race exhaust, whether weights are dry or ready to ride, and whether the machines are built for the same use. BikeBound frames its figures against contemporary MotoGP power-to-weight numbers, but that is an editorial comparison—not evidence that the CR700W is a MotoGP motorcycle.

Is the CR700W road legal?
The CR700W is principally described as a track and racing machine. BikeBound says a road-registered option is available, but the cited coverage does not establish a current official homologation statement or the legal status of any particular motorcycle. Registration depends on the individual bike and jurisdiction, so a buyer would need to verify the paperwork and applicable local rules rather than infer road legality from the model name.
How rare is it, and what does it cost?
New Atlas reported a planned production run of 25 motorcycles. Visordown reported in December 2025 that example number 15 was offered for sale at £154,495. That was an asking price for a used example at that time, not a current new-bike price, a confirmed resale value or proof that the motorcycle remains available. Current inventory, remaining production slots and present pricing are not established by those reports.

What does the CR700W’s rotary design mean in context?
A twin-rotor Wankel engine is central to the CR700W’s identity: the compact rotary powerplant is paired with a lightweight, specialist chassis for track use. The configuration is unusual in modern motorcycles, but the headline numbers alone do not tell a buyer how the bike behaves or compare directly with a road superbike. Exhaust choice, complete-bike weight, equipment specification and intended use all matter.
New Atlas quoted rider Mason Law, identified in that report as the 2020 British Supersport GP2 Cup Champion, describing the CR700W’s speed and low weight in vivid terms. That is his reported impression, not an independent test result from this article. New Atlas also quoted Crighton calling the rotary engine exceptionally tractable and usable; that is the maker’s promotional claim rather than a measured comparison across motorcycle engines.
