Not as a flying version of the famous DeLorean road car. The DR-7 is a proposed two-seat electric VTOL aircraft from DeLorean Aerospace. The company has described its intended design, but the available evidence does not establish a completed, certified or commercially available aircraft.
What is the DeLorean DR-7?
The DR-7 is an aircraft concept associated with DeLorean Aerospace, not a road-going DeLorean modified to fly. In 2017, DeLorean Aerospace CEO and chief designer Paul DeLorean presented concept video and illustrations of the two-seat aircraft. The contemporaneous eVTOL.news report described it as a VTOL-capable airplane.
The company’s About page describes a proposed electric vertical takeoff and landing design. Its features are design claims, not proof of a full-size aircraft’s performance or safety.
How is the DR-7 supposed to fly?
Vertical takeoff and hovering
DeLorean Aerospace says the DR-7 is designed around two 360-degree thrust-vectoring electric ducted fans mounted along the aircraft’s centerline. The company also describes a proprietary stabilization system intended to provide three-axis control while hovering.

Forward flight
According to the company’s homepage, the intended flight modes include hovering and conventional-aircraft operation in forward flight. Those descriptions explain the planned system; they do not demonstrate that a full-size DR-7 has completed either mode.
Cabin and airframe
The proposed aircraft has tandem seating for two occupants, a carbon-composite body and a ballistic parachute, according to the company. These are stated design elements; the material reviewed does not independently verify a built aircraft or establish how these features perform in operation.

What is the DR-7’s development status?
The clearest dated status snapshot available is the eVTOL Database’s DR-7 record, last updated February 24, 2025. It classifies the battery-powered, piloted, two-occupant aircraft as being in the scaled-prototype phase. The database leaves its fields for first unmanned flight, first manned flight, range and speed blank.
That record is a third-party snapshot, not a current company progress announcement. The sources do not establish a full-size DR-7 completing flight, nor do they establish certification, a production start, a customer delivery schedule or a current way to buy one. No speed, range or delivery date should be treated as confirmed from this evidence.

Could a flying DeLorean become real?
A DeLorean-named company has proposed an electric VTOL aircraft, so the DR-7 is a real aircraft project in that sense. But the name can invite a misleading comparison: it is not evidence that the iconic DeLorean road car can fly, and a design concept or scaled prototype is not the same as a production aircraft people can purchase and use.
The practical distinction is between what the company says it intends to build and what has been demonstrated or independently established. The available status record supports a scaled-prototype classification; it supplies no first-flight or performance data. Certification and commercial availability are likewise not established by the reviewed sources.
