The Ferrari F40 is a plausible inspiration for a future limited-series car, but Ferrari has not announced or confirmed an F40 revival. The company’s Icona program shows that it does reinterpret historic designs; it does not establish that the F40 is next. And “cash cow” is a commercial hypothesis, not a disclosed Ferrari forecast.
Why the F40 is the likely Ferrari in the headline
Ferrari’s 2025 annual report places the F40 in its line of limited-edition supercars: the 288 GTO (1984), F40 (1987), F50 (1995), Enzo (2002), LaFerrari (2013) and LaFerrari Aperta (2016). The report says Ferrari continues to produce limited-edition supercars and identifies the F80, unveiled in October 2024, as the latest at the report date. That history makes the F40 a natural reference point for speculation about a modern successor, but it is not a promise that one is coming.

Is Ferrari making a modern F40?
Ferrari’s reviewed official disclosures do not confirm that it has approved, announced or scheduled an F40 revival. That means claims that a modern F40 is in development should be treated as unverified unless they are supported by attributable reporting or a company announcement.
The distinction matters: Ferrari has a real strategy for revisiting its past, but the existence of that strategy is not evidence that a specific historic model has been selected.

What Ferrari’s Icona program actually does
Ferrari introduced Icona in 2018 as a limited-series concept that takes inspiration from historic cars and reinterprets them for contemporary clients and collectors. The first Icona models, the Monza SP1 and SP2, drew on 1950s barchettas.
Ferrari described the approach in its 2025 annual report: “In September 2018, we introduced a new pillar of our product portfolio: the Icona, a unique concept that takes inspiration from the iconic concepts of our history and reinterprets them in a modern way, pairing timeless design with state-of-the-art materials and technology.”
An F40-inspired Icona would fit the broad idea of drawing on Ferrari history, but Ferrari has not said that it is the next model. Nor does the Icona label alone establish a car’s design, powertrain, technical basis or production details.

How limited would an Icona or supercar be?
Ferrari’s 2022–2026 strategic plan projected that Icona and supercar models together would account for less than 5% of total volumes on average over that plan period. This is a portfolio-wide target, not a production promise for any one car.
The figure supports describing these models as a small part of Ferrari’s overall volume. It does not establish a hypothetical F40-inspired car’s production run, price, profit margin or financial return.

Does Ferrari’s current demand make a new F40 a cash cow?
Ferrari reported €1,938 million in second-quarter 2026 net revenues and said on July 30, 2026, that its order book entirely covered 2027. Those figures describe Ferrari’s business and range as a whole; they do not establish demand for an unannounced F40-inspired model.

- OFFICIALLY LICENSED BY FERRARI - This 1/24 scale Ferrari F40 model measures 18.7 x 8.7 x 4.8 cm, making it an ideal size for indoor use.
- FULLY FUNCTIONAL RASTAR RC CAR - Features a sleek and smooth profile with a remote control for forward, reverse, left, and right turns. Easy to control, the Ferrari RC car responds well and simulates the powerful engine sound expected from a famous car. The dual-grip remote control and a max speed of 4 mph make it fun to play with.
- STRONG MATERIAL AND SCRATCH RESISTANCE - Made from non-toxic ABS plastic with a glossy exterior, it withstands crashes well. The smooth, flexible wheels with clear patterns and independent suspension reduce friction and provide active suspension, allowing it to run freely around the house.
- EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE - Equipped with a dual-grip remote controller operating on a 2.4GHz frequency, allowing multiple users to race several cars simultaneously without interference. Note that the frequency cannot be converted.
- IDEAL REMOTE CONTROL FERRARI FOR BOYS/ADULTS - Designed with round edges to protect children from injury, the model Ferrari LaFerrari works well on smooth surfaces, suitable for indoor and outdoor play. It can be used with the remote control or displayed as an exhibit. Perfect for Christmas gifts, stocking stuffers, or rewards.
Calling a future car a “cash cow” therefore goes beyond what Ferrari has disclosed. The company’s low-volume positioning and broad order-book strength may make the idea commercially plausible, but no model-specific price, allocation, production run or financial forecast has been confirmed.

A meaningful confirmation would need to identify the car and distinguish it from speculation. Look for an official Ferrari announcement or attributable reporting that establishes:
- whether the car is a one-off, an Icona limited series or a regular-production model;
- how its design relates to the F40 and which historic cues it actually uses;
- its disclosed powertrain and technical basis, if available; and
- confirmed production, pricing and allocation information.
Until those details emerge, the accurate answer is that Ferrari could reinterpret the F40, but has not confirmed that it will.
