Corey Day won the Focused Health 302 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on October 3, 2026, strengthening his position in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series Chase. He led 136 of 201 laps and held off Carson Kvapil by 0.287 seconds, despite brushing the Turn 4 wall on the final lap.
How Day won at Las Vegas
Day and Kvapil traded the lead in a late-race contest. Driving the No. 17 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet, Day controlled much of the event, leading 136 laps. Contact with the Turn 4 wall on the final lap added a last-minute threat, but he kept the car ahead to take the win by 0.287 seconds. NASCAR’s race recap called it Day’s third O’Reilly Auto Parts Series victory of the 2026 season and his third career win in the series.
What the victory means for the Chase
NASCAR’s recap says the Las Vegas result gained ground for Day in the postseason pursuit. The series’ 2026 format is a nine-race Chase featuring the top 12 drivers; NASCAR’s standings page identifies Las Vegas as race 28 of 33. The victory therefore mattered in a title fight with a defined postseason field, not just as another regular-season result.
The available official standings snapshot does not reliably establish Day’s precise post-race rank or points deficit. Those figures should not be inferred from the win alone. NASCAR’s standings page is the place to check for a current points position.

Day’s win puts the emphasis on whether he can turn the momentum into further points gains during the remaining Chase races. A fair comparison with other title contenders needs more than a race victory: championship position and points, stage results and laps led, and finish quality—including margins and incidents—all matter. Las Vegas supplied strong race-execution evidence for Day, but the captured standings data is not clear enough to say exactly where he stands against his rivals.
