El control por voz puede evitar tocar una pantalla para algunas acciones, pero no elimina por sí solo la distracción: una orden breve para ajustar el climatizador no exige lo mismo que dictar un mensaje o programar una ruta. Su utilidad depende de la tarea, de cómo responde el sistema y de si todavía obliga a mirar o pulsar controles.
La respuesta depende de qué quieras hacer
“Manos libres” describe cómo interactúas con el coche, no garantiza que tu atención mental quede libre. La voz puede reducir miradas y acciones manuales; aun así, escuchar indicaciones, formular una petición, corregir un reconocimiento erróneo o recorrer opciones puede consumir atención.

Qué muestran los estudios y qué no
Órdenes de voz y tareas distintas
Un estudio encargado por AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety e investigado por la University of Utah en 2014 encontró diferencias según la tarea: órdenes sencillas, como ajustar el climatizador, presentaron baja demanda cognitiva, mientras que actividades de habla y texto podían ser más exigentes. Duración de interacciones con sistemas de infoentretenimiento
En 2017, AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety evaluó tareas como programar la navegación y enviar mensajes en 30 vehículos modelo 2017. La organización describió más de 40 segundos de distracción visual y mental en tareas de ese tipo. CarPlay, Android Auto y sistemas nativos evaluados
En una comparación publicada en 2018, AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety estudió CarPlay, Android Auto y cinco sistemas nativos en vehículos modelo 2017/18. Participaron 76 conductores de 21 a 35 años en los vehículos adicionales descritos por AAA. En promedio, hacer una llamada con CarPlay y Android Auto tomó un 24 % (5 segundos) menos que con los sistemas nativos evaluados; programar navegación tomó un 31 % (15 segundos) menos. En conjunto, las dos plataformas para smartphone fueron menos demandantes que los sistemas nativos examinados. La voz no es lo mismo que una buena interfaz
Una interfaz de voz puede reducir la carga visual y manual, pero todavía puede exigir pasos adicionales, imponer una conversación mental o dejar al conductor mirando una pantalla. El informe técnico de NHTSA sobre interfaces de control por voz trata tanto esos posibles beneficios como esas exigencias. Las pautas de NHTSA sobre distracción visual-manual son voluntarias; no equivalen a una ley que prohíba todo uso de pantalla. - Pasos: ¿la acción se completa con una orden clara o requiere una secuencia de preguntas y confirmaciones?
- Miradas y toques: ¿puedes terminar sin consultar la pantalla ni pulsar botones?
- Tiempo y errores: ¿el sistema reconoce bien lo que dices o tienes que repetir y corregir?
- Demanda mental: ¿la tarea es breve y familiar, o tienes que pensar, escuchar y decidir entre opciones?
- Compatibilidad: si estás valorando una función concreta, comprueba marca, modelo, año, equipamiento y función compatible; los estudios citados no respaldan un accesorio universal.
Para tareas que pueden esperar, como introducir un destino o redactar un mensaje, haz la configuración antes de conducir cuando sea posible. Si la interfaz convierte una orden breve en una interacción larga, no hay que insistir solo porque sea por voz.
