An electric trike can make neighborhood rides and errands more approachable for riders who prefer a low-step frame and support from three wheels. That layout does not guarantee comfort or make turning effortless: a trike handles differently from a two-wheel bike, so fit and practice matter. RadTrike is one documented example, not a tested recommendation; specifications and availability can change.
What can make an electric trike feel comfortable and accessible?
A three-wheel platform provides support when stopped, while a step-through or low-step frame can make getting on and off easier for some riders. Those features may appeal to people who feel uncomfortable balancing a two-wheel bike. Rad Power Bikes describes seniors, differently-abled riders, people recovering from surgery and people with mobility challenges among potential users. That is the manufacturer’s description, not medical advice or a guarantee of suitability or fall prevention.
Comfort still depends on the rider and the particular trike. Before choosing one, consider whether you can mount and dismount without strain, sit comfortably, reach the controls, steer and operate the brakes. If possible, arrange a test ride and check the model’s instructions and fit adjustments.
What kinds of rides can an electric trike support?
Electric assistance can be useful for short local outings, grocery trips and visits to nearby destinations. Rad Power Bikes names neighborhood cruising, grocery runs and local trips as intended RadTrike use cases. For errands, confirm that the model’s payload limit and basket or platform accessories suit what you plan to carry; accessory compatibility can vary by model year.

Why does turning need practice?
A trike’s cornering can feel unfamiliar if you are used to a two-wheel bicycle. In its 2022 engineering overview, Rad says the RadTrike’s wider rear axle and 14 mph top speed were design choices intended to help riders ease into corners. Those choices are specific to this model and do not mean that every trike handles the same way.
Rad directs RadTrike owners to model-specific turning guidance in the quick-reference card and owner guide. Before using a trike on busy streets, practice starts, stops, reverse and wide and tighter turns in an open, low-traffic area, following the instructions for that model. Trek’s general e-bike guidance—not trike-specific advice—is to start slowly, brake sooner and lightly and evenly, ride with extra care, and follow road rules.

How should you compare electric trikes?
There is no like-for-like model comparison here, so use these checks to assess the options you are considering rather than treating one example as a winner.
- Access and fit: Check step-through height, saddle size and adjustment, back support, handlebar adjustment and whether you can reach every control.
- Handling: Ask about turning instructions, steering layout, overall width and wheel configuration. A test ride can help reveal whether the trike’s turning behavior suits you.
- Braking and parking: Identify the brake type and whether a parking brake is included; learn how to secure the trike when stopped.
- Motor operation: Check pedal-assist levels, throttle behavior, reverse or walk assistance, and how the controls work before riding.
- Carrying and range: Compare battery, payload limit, intended assist setting, likely terrain and compatible baskets or platforms against your typical trips.
- Storage and transport: Measure doors, storage space and loading access. A foldable component may help, but it does not establish that the whole trike will fit your space or vehicle.
How far can an electric trike go on a charge?
Range varies with battery capacity, motor efficiency, assist level, carried weight, wind, weather, temperature and terrain. Trek gives a broad estimate of 20–100 miles for e-bikes generally, but that is not a trike-specific prediction. Rad Power Bikes lists 20+ miles per charge for RadTrike; treat that as the manufacturer’s claim, not a guaranteed distance. Plan around your likely conditions and leave room for variation.

What do e-bike classes mean, and which rules apply?
Trek’s FAQ describes U.S. e-bike classes by how assistance works and the speed at which it stops: Class 1 is pedal assist up to 20 mph, Class 2 can use a throttle up to 20 mph, and Class 3 is pedal assist up to 28 mph. These definitions do not settle how every jurisdiction treats electric trikes. Check local rules and ask the relevant local authority about the specific vehicle, including where it may be ridden and any equipment or access requirements.
