For model year 2023, CLAAS announced higher rated output for the LEXION 8700 and 8800, a new 8600 hybrid model for its European range, and model-specific grain-tank options—including an optional 18,000-litre tank for the 8800. The 10 August 2022 announcement also covered cab, crop-flow, unloading, and automation changes. These are specifications and claimed benefits from CLAAS, not results of independent comparative testing.
What changed in the 2023 LEXION range?
CLAAS’s announcement applied to model year 2023 and described the European product offering. It was a dated manufacturer announcement, not confirmation of current dealer stock or availability in every market. The main changes were:
- The LEXION 8600 and 8600 TERRA TRAC joined the European hybrid-combine range.
- The 8700 and 8800 received higher stated engine outputs.
- Grain-tank capacities expanded through options that varied by model.
- CLAAS described updates to the cab, crop feeding, reversing, unloading and CEMOS automation.
Which engines and outputs did CLAAS announce?
The ratings and specifications below are those stated by CLAAS in its 2022 announcement for the 2023 model year. They are not independent measurements.
| Model | Configuration and engine details stated | Rated output stated | Tank capacity stated |
|---|---|---|---|
| 8600 | Hybrid; 1,700 mm feed channel; MAN D26 six-cylinder, 12.4 L | 549 PS | 12,500 L |
| 8600 TERRA TRAC | Hybrid; 1,700 mm feed channel; MAN D26 six-cylinder, 12.4 L | 549 PS | 13,500 L |
| 8700 | Hybrid; engine details not stated in the cited announcement summary | 626 PS, an increase of 41 PS | 15,000 L option |
| 8800 | Hybrid; MAN D42 six-cylinder, 16.2 L | 700 PS, an increase of 47 PS | Optional 18,000 L tank |
CLAAS said the 8800’s D42 engine had previously been used in the 8900. The company said the added output and optimized torque curves provided extra reserves and helped maintain engine speed in difficult harvest conditions; the announcement did not establish those benefits through third-party tests. For the 8600, CLAAS also described DYNAMIC POWER as adapting output to operating conditions and claimed fuel savings of up to 10 percent in partial-load work such as swath placement. That figure is a manufacturer claim, not an independently verified saving.

How did grain-tank options vary by model?
The announced capacities were not a single range-wide increase. CLAAS listed these model-specific options and capacities for the 2023 offering:
| Model | Capacity described by CLAAS |
|---|---|
| 6600 | 11,000 L option |
| 6700 | 12,500 L |
| 7600 | Up to 13,500 L |
| 7700 and smaller models | 12,500 L and 13,500 L options described as available from the 7700 downward |
| 8700 | 15,000 L option |
| 8800 | Optional 18,000 L tank, previously exclusive to the 8900 |
These figures describe the manufacturer’s announcement; it does not establish that every capacity could be ordered in every country or machine configuration. Check localized specifications for a particular machine.

What else changed in operation and crop handling?
Cab and operator controls
CLAAS said all LEXION combines would receive the cab generation introduced on TRION in 2021. Announced features included more room around the head and feet, larger front and side windows, slimmer A-pillars, and a 12-inch CEBIS HD display. An optional leather seat could swivel 30 degrees in either direction. The company also cited integrated CEMOS DIALOG and CEMOS AUTOMATIC, with optional 360-degree LED lighting and multimedia equipment.
Feed drum and reversing
For LEXION 7000 and 8000 hybrid machines, CLAAS described a segmented feed drum with additional feed elements intended to distribute crop more evenly to the two rotors, especially in tough straw or extreme conditions. The company said all LEXION models would receive “slow feed” reversing from model year 2023: after a reversal, crop returns gradually to the threshing system. CLAAS said this could avoid load peaks after reversing.

- Foldable Wing Mirrors; Swingable Grain Tank Unloader
- Steerable and Swingable Rear Axle; Openable Side Flaps
- Movable Straw Chopper; Openable Engine and Maintenance Flaps
Grain-tank unloading
CLAAS described a swivelling spout for 330 mm and 420 mm grain-tank outlets. The spout could adjust the grain stream within a range of up to 60 cm and included a closure flap intended to prevent grain dribbling. The release summary cited unloading rates of up to 180 litres per second; this is a specification in the company announcement, not a comparative test result.
What CEMOS updates were announced?
- CEMOS DIALOG: Dialog-based calibration of the loss sensors.
- CEMOS CONNECT: Transfers combine settings between machines or through the TELEMATICS app. CLAAS said it would be available from model year 2023 on LEXION and TRION combines equipped with CEMOS.
- CEMOS AUTO HEADER: Uses FIELD SCANNER measurements to adjust header-table length and the reel’s height and horizontal position.
Which MONTANA variants were included?
The announcement also covered LEXION 5500 MONTANA and 7700 MONTANA variants for the 2023 campaign. CLAAS described hydraulic chassis compensation for side slopes up to 18 degrees and longitudinal slopes up to 6 degrees, alongside POWER TRAC all-wheel drive, a front differential lock and AUTO SLOPE cleaning. Those slope figures are manufacturer-stated capabilities; they do not by themselves establish performance under every field condition.

What the announcement does—and does not—show
The release gives model-specific specifications and describes intended operational benefits, but it does not provide an independent, like-for-like comparison of throughput, fuel use or grain loss. It therefore supports explaining what CLAAS announced, not ranking the machines on harvest performance. Nor does the 2022 release establish present-day prices, dealer inventory or availability for a particular market; buyers should verify those details with CLAAS or a local dealer.
