Choose the Citroën C3 if you want the smaller car, easier urban parking and the lower current UK listed starting prices. Choose the C3 Aircross if you need a larger, more versatile cabin, substantially more luggage space or occasional seven-seat capacity. Both are part of Citroën’s current UK range, and the new Aircross shares the Smart Car platform with the recent C3. Their petrol, hybrid and electric availability is not identical, so the right decision depends on space, seating, driving pattern and the exact trim you can buy.
This is a UK-market comparison of the current-generation cars. Prices, equipment and powertrain availability can change, so check the live model pages and the exact vehicle quotation before placing an order.

Citroën C3 and C3 Aircross at a glance
The C3 is the compact hatchback for buyers who spend much of their time in town, have modest luggage requirements and prefer the smallest footprint available in this comparison. The C3 Aircross is a compact SUV-shaped alternative with a longer body, a larger load area and petrol or hybrid versions that can be specified with up to seven seats.
| Consideration | Citroën C3 | Citroën C3 Aircross |
|---|---|---|
| Role in the range | Small hatchback/city-focused model | Compact SUV with a more cargo- and family-oriented layout |
| Current UK powertrains listed | Turbo 100 petrol/manual; Hybrid 110/automatic; ë-C3 electric | Turbo 100 petrol/manual; Hybrid 136 ë-DSC6 automatic; electric version listed for the five-seat model |
| Seats | Not stated in the current C3 page evidence used here | Petrol and hybrid versions are available with up to seven seats; electric version is five-seat |
| Boot information | Current page evidence does not state a boot volume | 460 litres in five-seat form with seats up; 40 litres behind row three in the seven-seat layout |
| Current listed entry prices | £19,870 petrol; £21,160 hybrid, as shown on the Citroën UK page accessed on 13 October 2026 | Check the live UK configurator or dealer quote; the dated launch prices are historical, not current offers |
| Best fit | Urban drivers, couples and small households prioritising footprint and entry price | Families and active owners who value flexible luggage space, rear room or occasional extra seats |
The comparison is not a substitute for a like-for-like trim quote. A cheaper car with a different equipment level, transmission or powertrain may not be the equivalent purchase.

Size, parking and everyday manoeuvrability
The C3 is the easier choice for tight streets
Citroën positions the C3 as the smaller model. That matters in multi-storey car parks, narrow residential streets and garages where every centimetre affects door opening and turning. The current C3 page reviewed for this comparison did not expose its exact exterior dimensions or boot volume, so this article does not assign a numeric size advantage to it.
The Aircross has a documented larger footprint
Citroën’s current UK Aircross price and specification guide lists a length of 4,395 mm, a width of 1,850 mm with the mirrors folded and 2,020 mm with them unfolded, a height of 1,660 mm and a 2,672 mm wheelbase. Its listed turning circle is 10.9 m. Those figures describe the Aircross; a matching current C3 specification sheet is needed for a precise dimensional comparison.
The wider, taller Aircross body can make loading and rear access easier, but the folded-mirror width should be checked against your garage or parking bay. If manoeuvrability is a deciding factor, sit in both cars and take each on your regular route rather than relying on the SUV shape alone.
Rear space, seats and boot capacity
Five-seat Aircross: the straightforward family layout
In five-seat form, the Aircross guide gives 460 litres of boot capacity with the seats raised and up to 1,600 litres with the rear seats folded. The two figures describe different conditions: the first is normal passenger use, while the second is maximum carrying volume with the rear bench unavailable for passengers.

Seven-seat Aircross: useful occasional capacity, limited luggage behind row three
The petrol and hybrid Aircross versions are the configurations Citroën identifies as available with up to seven seats. With all seven seats deployed, the guide lists 40 litres behind the third row. That is suitable for small bags rather than a full family holiday load. Folding row three increases the stated volume to 330 litres for petrol and 300 litres for hybrid. With all rear seats folded, the listed maximum is 1,470 litres.
The different petrol and hybrid figures in seven-seat mode show why a brochure number must always be tied to the exact powertrain and seating configuration. A buyer who needs three rows every day should measure the luggage they normally carry, not just quote the maximum volume with seats folded.
What is not established for the C3
The current C3 page evidence used here does not provide a verified litres figure for its boot. It would be misleading to invent a number or claim a precise capacity difference. Ask the retailer for the current C3 specification sheet and test your own pram, cases, sports equipment or shopping crates in the car.
Powertrains and transmissions
C3 petrol
The UK C3 page lists a Turbo 100 petrol engine with a manual transmission. It shows a starting price of £19,870 on the page accessed on 13 October 2026. Citroën quotes 53–46 mpg WLTP combined for this version. The range is a manufacturer test-cycle result, not a promise of the economy an owner will achieve on a particular commute.

C3 hybrid
The C3 Hybrid 110 is listed with an automatic transmission and a starting price of £21,160 on the same page. Its quoted combined economy is 56.5 mpg WLTP. Confirm the trim, equipment and delivery price because a web-page starting figure can change and may not include every option or current offer.
ë-C3 electric
Citroën lists two battery choices for the ë-C3: a 30 kWh battery with up to 130 miles WLTP range and a 44 kWh battery with up to 202 miles WLTP range. The range depends on the selected battery and version. Before buying, check the exact trim’s charging specification, the official range figure for that configuration and whether your home or regular destination provides convenient charging.
Aircross petrol
The Aircross specification guide lists a Turbo 100 S&S engine with a six-speed manual transmission. Its published combined fuel-consumption range is 6.8–5.6 L/100 km, equivalent to 41.8–50.2 mpg WLTP. The guide edition date was not shown in the retrieved document text, so verify that the document still applies to the vehicle you are ordering.
Aircross hybrid
The listed Hybrid 136 uses Citroën’s ë-DSC6 automatic transmission. The guide quotes 6.0–4.9 L/100 km, or 47.3–57.4 mpg WLTP combined. These figures are published test-cycle ranges and can vary with wheel choice, specification, traffic, temperature, load and driving style.

Aircross electric
The current UK Aircross page lists an electric option and specifies that it is available on the five-seat model. The page evidence does not establish a single universal battery, range or price for every electric Aircross version, so obtain the current configuration-specific data rather than transferring ë-C3 figures to the larger vehicle.
Current UK prices and how to compare them fairly
The C3 page currently displays £19,870 for the Turbo 100 petrol and £21,160 for the Hybrid 110. Those are page listings accessed on 13 October 2026, not guaranteed prices at publication, from a particular retailer or at delivery.
Citroën’s 3 February 2025 pricing announcement gave launch starting prices of £20,240 for the new C3 Aircross petrol and £22,990 for the ë-C3 Aircross. Both numbers are historical launch prices and should not be presented as today’s Aircross offers. Use the live UK configurator or a dated dealer quotation for the Aircross, then compare equivalent trim, transmission, paint, options, finance interest and any deposit contribution.

Which car suits your driving pattern?
Choose the C3 when footprint and simplicity lead
- Your regular journeys are urban or suburban and parking space is tight.
- You normally carry one to four people and do not need three rows.
- You want the lower current listed entry price and are comfortable with a smaller hatchback format.
- You can use the ë-C3’s charging arrangement if electric driving suits your mileage and access to power.
Choose the Aircross when carrying ability leads
- You regularly carry bulky luggage, pushchairs, sports kit or shopping.
- Rear passenger room and easier loading are more important than the smallest exterior footprint.
- You need occasional seven-seat capacity and accept that row-three luggage space is only 40 litres with all seats in use.
- You prefer the Aircross petrol or hybrid versions because the electric model is listed as five-seat.
Consider the five-seat Aircross as the middle ground
The five-seat Aircross avoids the severe luggage compromise of a deployed third row while retaining its stated 460-litre boot and 1,600-litre folded-seat maximum. It makes most sense when you need more cargo flexibility than the C3 but rarely need seven occupants.

Fuel, electricity and ownership-cost decisions
The published WLTP figures help compare official test results within each model range, but they do not establish a matched real-world fuel or energy-cost winner. Actual spending depends on annual mileage, traffic, route elevation, weather, payload, driving style, local petrol and electricity prices, charging losses, insurance and finance terms.
For a useful personal estimate, record your weekly mileage, split it into motorway, town and rural driving, and identify where charging would take place. Compare the exact C3 and Aircross versions on the same assumptions. A hybrid may be attractive for frequent stop-start work, while an electric model can be compelling where home charging is available; neither conclusion follows from WLTP alone.
Trim, equipment and specification checks before ordering
- Open the current Citroën UK model page for the exact body style and select the intended engine, battery and trim.
- Confirm the number of seats shown for that configuration. Do not assume the electric Aircross has the same seating choices as petrol or hybrid versions.
- Check transmission type: the listed C3 petrol is manual, the C3 hybrid is automatic, the Aircross petrol is six-speed manual and the Aircross Hybrid 136 uses ë-DSC6 automatic.
- Read the current price and specification guide for dimensions, wheel options, standard equipment and luggage layout.
- Ask for a written, dated quote that separates vehicle price, options, delivery charges, finance interest, deposit, monthly payment and final payment.
- Verify the warranty, roadside assistance and battery coverage that apply to the exact UK vehicle and purchase date; the supplied official material does not establish one universal warranty figure for this comparison.
- Arrange a test drive in both cars, carrying the people and equipment that normally determine your choice.
What to test on the road
No independent comparative road test is established here, so comfort, ride quality, seat support, visibility, manoeuvrability and cabin noise should be judged in person. Drive over the broken surfaces you encounter locally, perform a supermarket-style parking manoeuvre and try the rear seats with the front seats set for the usual driver and passenger.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →On the Aircross, practise moving or folding the second- and third-row seats and check whether the resulting load floor suits your equipment. On the C3, check rear access, tailgate opening and whether the available luggage area meets your routine needs. If you are considering an ë-C3 or electric Aircross, ask the salesperson to demonstrate the charge-port location, cable storage, charge-status controls and the exact battery and range for the car offered.
Important limits in the published comparison
- The current C3 page evidence does not give verified C3 exterior dimensions or boot volume, so no numerical C3-versus-Aircross luggage claim is made.
- The Aircross measurements and capacities come from Citroën’s official UK specification guide and vary by seats and powertrain.
- Manufacturer comfort descriptions are not independent testing.
- WLTP economy and range figures are laboratory test results and do not guarantee owner experience.
- Citroën’s model pages, trim lists and offers can change; recheck them close to purchase.
Verdict: which one should you choose?
For most buyers who want a small, relatively easy-to-place car and are satisfied with ordinary hatchback carrying needs, the C3 is the more natural shortlist choice. Its current UK page shows the lower starting prices, and its petrol, hybrid and electric choices cover three distinct ways to power a small car.
The C3 Aircross earns its extra size when the decision is really about space: 460 litres in five-seat form, up to 1,600 litres with those seats folded, or the ability to carry up to seven people in petrol and hybrid versions. Remember that seven seats leave only 40 litres behind the third row, and that the electric Aircross is listed as five-seat.
Make the final decision from a dated quote for the exact trim, a practical loading test and a drive on your normal roads. That approach prevents an attractive headline price or brochure capacity from deciding a car that does not fit your everyday use.
