CISON engines are not full-size car engines. They are small, working gasoline engines built for model cars, RC projects, engine displays, and mechanical demonstrations. The range includes air-cooled V-twins, water-cooled inline-fours, and a 44cc V8 designed at roughly 1/6 scale.

CISON Engine Ltd. is generally identified by retailers as a Chinese manufacturer. Its engines are described as being produced in a CNC-equipped workshop in China. Prices currently range from about $600 for a basic V-twin to roughly $2,000 or more for the V8, before shipping, tax, and accessories.

Who makes CISON engines?

CISON engines are made by CISON Engine Ltd., a Chinese manufacturer associated with miniature internal-combustion and RC engines. Retailer descriptions state that the company was established in 2000 and began producing and selling these engine products in 2019.

The engines are manufactured using CNC equipment in China, according to distributor and retailer information. They are intended to function like real gasoline engines rather than being static scale replicas: depending on the model, they include features such as crankshafts, pistons, valve trains, ignition systems, cooling systems, and carburetors.

Although some CISON designs resemble famous automotive engines, they should not be confused with products made by Ford, Chevrolet, Harley-Davidson, or another full-size engine company. For example, CISON’s small-block V8 is described as being stylistically inspired by Chevrolet-style OHV V8s and Ford-style flathead V8s. That is design inspiration, not evidence of licensing or manufacture by those automakers.

What types of engines does CISON sell?

The current range covers several layouts and displacements. These are miniature engines, so the figures are given in cubic centimeters—not automotive cubic inches.

Model Configuration Cooling Typical listed price
FG-VT9 / FG-9VT 9cc V-twin Air-cooled About $599.99 for the engine; configured sets around $839.99–$879.99
FG-VT157 15.7cc V-twin Air-cooled From about $599.99; regular pricing may be shown near $799.99
L4-175 / FL4-175 17.5cc inline-four Water-cooled From about $999.99
L4-205-OHV 20.5cc inline-four Water-cooled From about $999.99; complete-set listings can exceed $1,290
V8-440 44cc, 1/6-scale V8 Water-cooled Approximately $1,900–$2,200

How much does a CISON engine cost?

A realistic purchase budget depends mainly on the engine layout and what the seller includes in the package:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • V-twin: approximately $600 for a basic engine, with assembled or accessory-equipped sets costing roughly $840–$880.
  • Inline-four: approximately $1,000–$1,300, depending on whether the listing is for the engine alone or a more complete package.
  • 44cc V8: approximately $1,900–$2,200. Current listings vary by retailer, version, promotion, and included equipment.

These are listed retail prices rather than a fixed manufacturer price list. “From” prices often apply to a bare engine or a particular finish, while ignition equipment, starter components, exhaust parts, fuel systems, and other accessories may be optional. Shipping, import charges, and local sales tax can also materially increase the final cost.

CISON V-twin prices

The FG-VT9 is one of the lower-cost ways into the CISON range. The basic 9cc air-cooled V-twin has been listed at $599.99, while sets with additional equipment have appeared in the $839.99–$879.99 range.

The larger 15.7cc FG-VT157 is also commonly listed from $599.99, although some product pages show a regular price of $799.99. That apparent overlap illustrates why buyers should check the selected configuration instead of relying only on the headline price.

These engines are attractive for motorcycle-style model projects and compact demonstrations because they do not need a radiator. They still require the correct fuel, ignition setup, exhaust arrangement, starting equipment, and a secure mounting system.

CISON inline-four prices

The L4-175, also referred to in listings as the FL4-175, is a 17.5cc water-cooled inline-four. It is sold in different visual and mechanical versions, including OHV and flathead configurations. Prices start at about $999.99, but a more complete set can cost considerably more.

The 20.5cc L4-205-OHV is another water-cooled inline-four. One current listing shows it from $999.99, while a complete-set listing is around $1,293.95. The difference may reflect included starter equipment, accessories, or a different configuration rather than a change in the basic engine itself.

What does the CISON V8 cost?

The CISON small-block V8 is a 44cc, 1/6-scale, water-cooled four-stroke gasoline engine. Listings place it at approximately $2,000, with observed prices ranging from about $1,900 on promotion to more than $2,150.

V8 engine is KIT parts version, DIY assembly is required. 95% of the parts are pre-painted, the remaining 5% of the parts need to be finished. It's not a gasoline engine!

One important correction: 44cc does not mean 44 cubic inches. Forty-four cubic inches would be approximately 721cc, which is radically larger than the miniature engine described by CISON listings. The V8’s displacement is 44 cubic centimeters.

Some listings describe OHV and flathead-inspired versions. Buyers should verify whether a listing is for the standard engine, a Pro version, a kit, or a complete running package. A headline price may not include every part needed to install and operate it.

Accessories that can raise the total

The engine price is only part of the project budget. Examples of separately listed CISON equipment include:

Accessory Listed price found Why it matters
Four-speed dual-clutch transmission $439.99 Useful for a more complete drivetrain or demonstration build
Miniature alternator/generator $79.99 Adds charging or accessory-generation functionality
FL4-175 starter kit $149.99 Listed as containing the equipment needed to start the engine, excluding batteries and fuel
CDI ignition module $63.99 Replacement or ignition-system component
Clutch kit $49.99 Replacement or drivetrain installation part
Fuel tank and bracket $69.99 Fuel storage and mounting hardware

That means a $600 engine can quickly become an $800-plus project once starting equipment, fuel hardware, mounting, exhaust, and delivery costs are included. Before ordering, check whether the package includes a carburetor, CDI, spark plug, starter, fuel tank, cooling hardware, and engine mount.

Are CISON engines suitable for a real car?

No. These engines are designed for miniature vehicles, model engineering, display stands, and RC applications. Their displacement and output are nowhere near what is required to propel a full-size road car.

A CISON engine can be used in a scale vehicle or as part of a mechanical exhibit, but installing one in a normal passenger car would not be a practical engine swap. The cooling, fuel delivery, transmission, mounting, electrical system, and power output would all be unsuitable for a full-size chassis.

What to check before buying

  1. Confirm the exact model. L4-175, FL4-175, and L4-205-OHV are not interchangeable names for one identical engine.
  2. Read the selected variant. “Engine only,” “kit,” “complete set,” and “Pro” versions can have very different contents.
  3. Check stock status. Some collection pages show prices for products or parts that are sold out.
  4. Ask what starts the engine. A starter kit may still require batteries and fuel.
  5. Budget for the installation. Include a rigid base, fuel tank, exhaust, cooling loop where applicable, ignition power, and safety shielding.
  6. Verify delivery costs and import charges. International shipping and taxes are not necessarily included in the displayed price.

Retail pages are the best place to verify the final number because prices, promotions, colors, configurations, and availability change. A third-party page showing an implausible $22,224.43 price for the 44cc V8, while also marking all variants sold out, should not be treated as a normal market price; comparable listings cluster around $2,000.

FAQ

Are CISON engines made by Chevrolet or Ford?

No. CISON is identified by retailers as a Chinese manufacturer of miniature engines. Some models borrow styling cues from Chevrolet- or Ford-inspired engine designs, but that does not make them Chevrolet or Ford products.

How much is the cheapest CISON engine?

The basic 9cc FG-VT9 V-twin is commonly listed at about $599.99. Configured sets and accessories can raise the price to roughly $840 or more.

Is the CISON V8 really a 44-cubic-inch engine?

No. It is a 44cc engine, meaning 44 cubic centimeters. That is far smaller than 44 cubic inches, which would be approximately 721cc.

Do CISON engines include everything needed to run?

Not always. Package contents vary. Some starter kits include the equipment needed to start the engine but still exclude batteries and fuel, while engine-only listings may require additional ignition, fuel, cooling, exhaust, and mounting parts.

The Bottom Line

CISON makes Chinese-built miniature gasoline engines for model and RC applications, not full-size automotive replacements. Plan on roughly $600 for a basic V-twin, $1,000–$1,300 for an inline-four, and $1,900–$2,200 for the 44cc V8. Add accessories, shipping, taxes, and installation hardware before treating any advertised price as the complete project cost.
