Does Cinq Shift:R work with Pinion?
It is designed for Pinion C-Series gearboxes. Cinq’s installation manual says, “The Shift:R for Pinion was developed for use with the Pinion C-Series gearbox.” The Tour product listing describes compatibility with all C-Line gearboxes, but that wording should not be taken to mean every Pinion generation or revision is supported. Check the exact gearbox model and revision with the seller before ordering.
Shift:R replaces the original Pinion shift box and shift lever. It is a mechanical system: the manufacturer’s manual describes cable-operated ratchet mechanisms, not electronic shifting.

Choose first by handlebar shape and brake setup: Tour is the flat-bar configuration, while Road integrates shifting with the specified hydraulic brakes for drop bars. Then verify gearbox fit and installation details, and ask the retailer about current availability and support. Retail listings and stock can change.

Can I use Shift:R on drop bars?
The Road version is the drop-bar option. It combines Shift:R controls with TRP Hylex hydraulic brake levers. The Tour levers, by contrast, are specified for 22.2 mm bars and are the flat-bar-oriented configuration. Check the Road product listing and seller for confirmation that its brake and control setup suits your particular build.
How does the mechanical shifting work?
The Cinq manual describes two counter-rotating ratchet mechanisms. Depending on which direction you shift, a pawl engages a toothed ring and triggers a shift in the Pinion gearbox. The controls actuate the gearbox through cables; Shift:R is not Pinion’s electronic Smart.Shift system.

What cables does the Shift:R for Pinion use?
The manual permits standard shift cables with a maximum stop diameter of 4.5 mm. It calls for indexed shift-cable housing with end caps and specifically warns not to use brake housing. Follow the installation manual for routing and setup rather than substituting housing intended for a different cable system.

No. Shift:R is documented as a mechanical, cable-operated control system. Pinion Smart.Shift is a distinct electronic system, and Pinion’s workshop manual says it requires special gearbox variants marked with an “i” on the series label. Do not assume a gearbox compatible with one system is automatically compatible with the other.
