The defect does not involve the vehicle’s primary braking system or necessarily the tow vehicle’s own brake lights.
The vehicle recall covers 456,287 Jeep, Ram, and Chrysler vehicles under NHTSA campaign 26V059000 and FCA US campaign 03D. A separate recall covers 2,871 Mopar trailer tow modules that were sold as replacement or accessory parts.

What is the Chrysler trailer-light recall?
The recalled component is the vehicle’s integrated trailer tow module. This module manages electrical signals sent through the trailer connector, including signals for the trailer’s stop lamps, turn indicators, and—when fitted—the trailer braking system.

That distinction matters: reports describing this as a recall for the vehicles’ “brake lights” are technically incomplete. The documented problem affects the lights and brakes on a connected trailer. It is not a recall for the vehicle’s primary hydraulic or electric braking system, and it is not a blanket recall of every affected vehicle’s own rear stop lamps.
Which vehicles are included?
The vehicle campaign includes the following model-year ranges:
| Brand | Vehicles covered |
|---|---|
| Jeep | 2024–2026 Wagoneer S; 2026 Cherokee |
| Ram | 2025–2026 1500, 2500, and 3500 pickups |
| Ram | 2025–2026 3500, 4500, and 5500 Cab Chassis models |
Model and year alone do not confirm that a particular vehicle is involved. Recall coverage depends on the vehicle identification number, or VIN.

- The trailer turn signals may not flash.
- The trailer stop lamps may not illuminate when the tow vehicle’s service brakes are applied.
- Electric trailer brakes may not operate.
A trailer without working stop lamps or turn signals is harder for following drivers to read, particularly in traffic, at night, or during sudden braking. If the trailer’s brakes also fail, the tow vehicle may need to handle more of the stopping load and the combination can require a longer stopping distance. Because the failure may happen without warning, owners should not assume that a normal dashboard check confirms trailer equipment is working.
How many vehicles and parts are recalled?
Chrysler’s vehicle recall population is 456,287 vehicles. Separately, campaign 26E006000—Chrysler campaign 04D—covers 2,871 Mopar trailer tow modules.
The 2,871 modules are not an additional 2,871 vehicles. They are separate parts that may have been sold for installation or replacement. Adding the two campaign populations produces 459,158 affected vehicles and modules, but that combined figure should not be described as 459,158 vehicles.
What should owners do?
- Check the VIN. Go to NHTSA.gov/Recalls and enter the vehicle’s 17-character VIN. A VIN search identifies unrepaired recalls for that specific vehicle; a general make-and-model search does not.
- Contact a Chrysler, Jeep, or Ram dealer. Ask the dealer to check campaign 03D, or provide NHTSA campaign 26V059000.
- Do not tow until the trailer functions have been checked. If the recall is open and the vehicle is used with a trailer, avoid towing until the repair is completed. If towing is unavoidable, verify the trailer’s turn signals, stop lamps, and brakes before moving, although a brief check may not detect an intermittent or subsequently triggered module failure.
- Schedule the repair. The dealer will replace the affected installed trailer tow module with an updated design at no charge.
Owners can also contact FCA US at 1-800-853-1403. Use campaign 03D or NHTSA number 26V059000 when calling.

What happens to a recalled Mopar module that has not been installed?
The separate equipment campaign uses a different remedy. Chrysler says an uninstalled recalled Mopar trailer tow module will be repurchased, rather than replaced in a vehicle. Owners of a loose module should reference campaign 04D or NHTSA campaign 26E006000 and ask Chrysler or the seller how to arrange the repurchase.
When were owners notified?
Chrysler’s original filings listed March 24, 2026, as the planned owner-notification date. Subsequent NHTSA-derived recall data reported that letters began mailing on March 17, 2026. Owners should not wait for a letter: the VIN lookup and a dealer’s recall system are the more direct ways to determine whether a repair is still open.

In the reported case history available for the recall review, FCA US listed 108 customer-assistance records, 107 warranty claims, 101 field reports, and 285 repair orders potentially related to the condition worldwide as of January 15, 2026. The company reported no known related crashes or injuries at that time.

That history does not make the defect harmless. A trailer with no brake lights or turn signals can give other motorists little or no notice that the vehicle combination is slowing or turning, while loss of trailer braking can increase the risk of a crash.

FAQ
Does this recall mean my Chrysler’s brake lights are defective?
Not necessarily. The recall concerns the trailer tow module and the lights and brakes on an attached trailer. It is not described as a failure of the vehicle’s primary braking system or a recall of every affected vehicle’s own brake lights.
Which recall number should I use?
For an affected vehicle, use NHTSA campaign 26V059000 or FCA US campaign 03D. For a separate uninstalled Mopar trailer tow module, use NHTSA campaign 26E006000 or FCA US campaign 04D.
How do I check whether my vehicle is affected?
Enter the vehicle’s 17-character VIN at NHTSA.gov/Recalls, then contact a Chrysler, Jeep, or Ram dealer if the recall appears. A model-year search provides general information but cannot confirm coverage for a specific vehicle.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Will the recall repair cost anything?
No. For an installed recalled module, an authorized dealer will replace it with an updated design free of charge. Chrysler says an uninstalled recalled Mopar module will be repurchased.
The Bottom Line
This is a trailer-equipment recall, not a recall of the tow vehicle’s main brakes. If you own one of the listed Jeep or Ram models—or have a Mopar trailer tow module—check the VIN or part campaign before towing. An authorized dealer will replace an installed module at no cost, while an uninstalled recalled module is subject to repurchase.
