Chrysler quotes up to 32 miles of all-electric range and up to 520 miles of total range, but both are manufacturer estimates rather than guarantees. The best match is a household that can charge at home or at another dependable parking location, drives many routine trips near that electric range, and still needs gasoline capability for longer travel.
How does the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid work?
Despite the word “hybrid,” the Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid is not merely a conventional hybrid with a small battery. It is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV): you can connect it to an external power source, store energy in a high-voltage battery, and use that energy to propel the minivan with electric motors. A gasoline V6 remains available for propulsion and for charging the battery when the control system determines that is appropriate.

Chrysler describes an electrically variable transmission containing two electric drive motors, a planetary gear set and a one-way clutch. One motor primarily helps charge the high-voltage battery and start the V6; the other is used for electric driving. Chrysler also says the charging-and-starting motor can contribute to electric drive, allowing dual-motor EV operation. The vehicle’s control software blends these elements according to speed, load, battery condition and other driving circumstances. That description does not mean a driver can demand a guaranteed engine-off or engine-on pattern in every situation.
What each major component does
- High-voltage battery: Stores electricity supplied by a charger and energy recovered during deceleration. The 2025 specification lists 16 kWh of total energy at a nominal 360 volts.
- Electric motors: The 2025 specification lists motors rated at 84 horsepower and 114 horsepower. Their combined operation can provide electric propulsion, while one motor also performs charging and engine-start duties.
- Gasoline V6: Supplies propulsion when the operating strategy calls for it and can generate electricity for the battery. It is integrated into the automatic transition between electric and gasoline operation.
- Electrically variable transmission: The planetary gear set and one-way clutch coordinate motor speeds, engine output and the drive wheels rather than using a simple engine-to-wheel connection at all times.
- Control system: Continuously chooses how to share work among the V6, motors and battery. Your driving mode, road conditions and battery state influence the result, but the system remains automatic.
For the 2025 model year, Stellantis lists 260 horsepower of net system output. That is a model-year specification, not a universal rating for every Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid or every market.

How far can it go on electricity?
Chrysler advertises up to 32 miles of all-electric range and up to 520 miles of total range with a full battery and a full gasoline tank. These are manufacturer estimates published in Chrysler material, including a 2026 FAQ; they are not independent test results. Actual distance can be lower or higher depending on temperature, speed, traffic, terrain, passenger and cargo load, tire condition, climate-control use and vehicle configuration.

Think of 32 miles as a planning reference, not a daily promise. A household whose school, work and shopping loop is comfortably below that distance may complete much of its routine driving electrically. A household whose normal route is substantially longer will reach gasoline operation more often, even when it starts every trip with a full battery.
Do I have to plug it in?
No. The V6 allows the Pacifica to operate when you cannot connect to a charger. However, not plugging in means you regularly give up the main feature that distinguishes this vehicle from a non-plug-in hybrid: externally supplied electricity for electric driving. If charging is unavailable for most nights, the minivan can still be useful, but the practical value of its plug-in system is reduced.

Chrysler says the instrument cluster can display regeneration messaging when Max Regeneration is enabled in L mode. Regeneration recovers energy that would otherwise be lost as heat; it does not replace plugging in and does not guarantee a particular electric range.

How long does it take to charge?
Chrysler describes two basic charging routes:

The times are not guarantees or independent measurements. Before installing equipment, have a qualified electrician verify the panel capacity, circuit, outlet or hardwired equipment, grounding and local-code requirements. A Level 2 home charger is a relevant category for owners with suitable parking who want the faster option. Chrysler names a Free2move Charge home charging station, but the correct equipment and electrical requirements must be confirmed for the specific vehicle year and installation.
A practical charging routine
- Confirm that your parking space has a safe, weather-appropriate outlet or an installed 240-volt station.
- Use the vehicle’s charging connection and indicators to verify that a session has started; consult the model-specific manual for the exact instrument-cluster messages.
- Schedule charging around your departure time if your vehicle and home equipment support scheduling, while observing utility time-of-use rules.
- Check the cable and connector for damage before use, and keep the connection clear of standing water or trip hazards.
- If charging stops unexpectedly, check the outlet or circuit, equipment status and vehicle messages before reconnecting. Persistent faults warrant dealer or qualified charger-service assistance rather than repeated resets.
What does 82 MPGe mean?
The 2025 Stellantis specification lists 82 MPGe for combined electric-and-gas operation and 30 mpg once the vehicle is operating on gasoline. These ratings answer different questions:
- MPGe expresses electric energy and gasoline energy on a common scale. The EPA’s convention treats one gallon of gasoline as equivalent to 33.7 kilowatt-hours.
- MPG measures miles per gallon of gasoline. The 30-mpg figure applies to gasoline operation, not to the electricity used during the plug-in portion of a trip.
MPGe is therefore not a promise that your electric bill will match a particular gasoline bill, and it should not be compared directly with a gasoline vehicle’s MPG as though they measured identical inputs. Your result depends on how often you charge, how far you drive electrically, local electricity and gasoline prices, charging losses and driving conditions. To estimate operating cost, calculate the electricity used from your utility rate and the gasoline consumed at your local price, using your own trip pattern rather than the label rating alone.

The Pacifica’s software decides when to use the V6, the electric motors or both. The engine may provide wheel power, generate electricity for the battery, or work with the motors through the transmission. Cold starts, high power demand, sustained highway speed, steep grades and a low battery state can all change the balance, but Chrysler’s component description does not establish a fixed driver-selectable schedule for those events.

In other words, selecting an electric-oriented setting does not create an absolute guarantee that the engine will never start. Conversely, seeing the engine run does not mean the battery system has stopped contributing. The vehicle is designed to manage the transition automatically.
Who should buy a Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid?
Suitability is mainly a question of charging access and trip pattern, not simply the size of the minivan. The following framework uses the vehicle’s plug-in design and published range rather than a survey or independent road test.

Questions to answer before purchasing
- Can the vehicle be parked near a suitable outlet every night or at another regular destination?
- How many miles are in your normal daily loop, and how often do weather, highway speeds or heavy loads make that distance harder to achieve electrically?
- After electric charge is used, is the published gasoline efficiency appropriate for your long-trip expectations?
- Do you need the Pacifica’s passenger, cargo and towing configuration, and does the exact trim provide it?
- Is the vehicle offered in your market and model year, and can a local dealer support its high-voltage and gasoline systems?
- Have you checked current local pricing, incentives and energy rates? Those figures are market-specific and can change.
Availability depends on market and model year
Do not assume that a page showing a current model in one territory proves availability everywhere. Chrysler’s U.S. Pacifica page labels the Plug-In Hybrid as discontinued and directs customers to a local Chrysler dealer for service and authentic Mopar parts. Chrysler Puerto Rico presents a 2026 Pacifica Plug-in Hybrid. Those pages describe different markets; the Puerto Rico listing does not establish that a new 2026 vehicle is available in the United States.

Service, manuals and high-voltage safety
The 2025 owner-manual index includes dedicated material on the high-voltage battery and charging, hybrid starting and transmission operation, the instrument cluster, storage and warranty information. Chrysler cautions that information can vary by version, trim and equipment. Use the manual for your vehicle identification and model year rather than relying on a generic online description.
- Follow the manual’s charging, warning-light and shutdown instructions.
- Do not attempt to open, modify or repair high-voltage components yourself.
- When a warning message concerns the hybrid or high-voltage system, record the exact message and contact an appropriately equipped dealer or technician.
- For a used vehicle, ask for service records and have the charging function and hybrid system checked before purchase; do not infer battery condition from the advertised range alone.
Common expectations that lead to disappointment
“Thirty-two miles means exactly 32 miles every day.”
It is an “up to” estimate. Cold weather, high speeds, hills, climate control, payload and traffic can change the result.
“Regeneration will recharge the battery without plugging in.”
Regeneration recovers only part of the energy used to slow down. It helps efficiency but cannot substitute for an external charging session.

The control system can start the V6 or combine it with the motors when operating conditions call for it; no fixed engine-on/engine-off pattern is promised.
Bottom line for a family buyer
The Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid makes the most sense when you can charge consistently, most everyday driving is local enough to benefit from its estimated electric range, and you need a minivan that can continue on gasoline for road trips. Its 16-kWh, 360-volt battery, dual-motor transmission and V6 provide flexibility, while the published 32-mile electric and 520-mile total-range figures remain estimates. If charging is unreliable or your priority is a guaranteed ownership-cost saving, calculate your local energy costs and verify market availability before choosing it.
