Christian von Koenigsegg’s own account was the opposite of a founder’s packed private garage. In a 2016 interview, he said he was not a car collector and did not personally own a car at the time. The Tesla Model S he drove and the Koenigseggs at the factory, he explained, belonged to the company. A later account reported that he had bought back and regularly drove an old Mazda MX-5—but it does not establish what he owns today.
What Christian von Koenigsegg said he owned in 2016
Asked by Top Gear Philippines what was in his garage besides his own cars, Christian challenged the premise. “I’m not a big collector of cars. I’m not even a small collector of cars,” he said in the interview published June 13, 2016. He added: “Come to think about it, I actually don’t own a car myself at all!” That is a statement about his situation in 2016, not a verified description of his present-day garage.
The Tesla and Koenigseggs were company property
Christian said he drove a Tesla Model S, but that it belonged to the company. He also clarified that the small number of Koenigseggs at the factory were company-owned: “We have a small number of Koenigseggs here at the factory but they belong to the company, of course.” Their presence at the factory does not make them part of his private collection.
The later report of a first-generation Mazda MX-5
In a 2021 article, journalist Roger Biermann recounted a phone conversation with Christian from 2020. Biermann wrote that Christian had tracked down and bought back his old first-generation Mazda MX-5, and still drove it regularly. This is a journalist’s account of that conversation, rather than a new direct ownership statement quoted from Christian in the article. It provides a later reported example of a car he drove, but not confirmation of his current ownership.

Why Koenigsegg’s company cars are easy to mistake for a personal collection
Christian’s biography on Koenigsegg’s official site describes his early fascination with machinery and says he launched the company in 1994. The company’s official history documents its models and milestones. Those records explain the close association between the founder and the marque, but they document the company’s story—not which cars Christian personally owns.

No complete, up-to-date list of Christian von Koenigsegg’s personally owned cars is established by these accounts. The 2016 interview is a dated snapshot; Biermann’s 2021 article describes a conversation from 2020 and the MX-5 report. Neither confirms a present-day inventory. It would therefore be misleading to count the factory’s Koenigseggs as his, or to state that he currently owns no cars.
