The 2026 Chinese Grand Prix is over. The race took place at Shanghai International Circuit on Sunday, March 15, 2026, after a Sprint-format weekend from March 13–15. If you are looking for a live stream now, you need a replay or official highlights rather than a live broadcast.
For viewers in the United States, the legal live option during the event was Apple TV. Eligible new subscribers could use a seven-day free trial, but that was a temporary trial—not a permanently free full-race stream. All practice sessions and selected races were available free under Apple’s 2026 arrangement, while the Chinese GP event page displayed the trial-and-subscription offer.

Quick answer: how the 2026 Chinese GP was streamed
- United States: Apple TV carried the complete live F1 package, including the Chinese Grand Prix. The event page offered a seven-day free trial followed by a listed price of $12.99 per month for eligible viewers.
- Mainland China: Formula 1 listed Shanghai TV, Guangdong Television Channel, and Tencent. Tencent’s digital agreement covered every Grand Prix, qualifying, practice, and Sprint session through the end of 2027.
- United Kingdom and other countries: Rights depend on territory. Use Formula 1’s official broadcaster directory rather than assuming that a U.S. Apple TV offer works in your country.
- Watching now: Look for official replays and highlights through Apple TV, Formula 1’s digital platforms, or the verified Formula 1 YouTube channel. Availability can change after the live event.
Do not confuse a free trial, free practice session, or free highlights package with a free, full live Grand Prix. The Chinese GP’s event page did not establish a permanent no-sign-up live stream.
When was the 2026 Chinese Grand Prix?
Formula 1 scheduled the Chinese Grand Prix as round two of the 2026 season. The event ran from Friday, March 13 through Sunday, March 15, 2026, at Shanghai International Circuit. The Grand Prix itself started on Sunday, March 15.

United States: Apple TV was the legal live-stream route
Apple TV became Formula 1’s official U.S. broadcast partner for the 2026 season. Its U.S. F1 viewing page said subscribers could watch complete live coverage of every Grand Prix, practice session, qualifying session, and Sprint.
For the Chinese GP specifically, Apple’s event page offered a seven-day free trial, followed by a listed subscription price of $12.99 per month. That means the most accurate description is:

How to use the Apple TV trial during a live race
- Open the Apple TV app or visit tv.apple.com.
- Search for the Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix event listing.
- Check whether the seven-day trial is available for your Apple Account.
- Review the displayed renewal date and subscription price before confirming.
- Watch the live event while the trial is active, then cancel before renewal if you do not want a paid subscription.
Apple TV supported Apple devices, Windows, Android, smart TVs, streaming devices, and game consoles. You did not need an Apple-branded television or iPhone to use the service.
What about F1 TV Premium in the U.S.?
F1 TV Premium was included at no additional charge for qualifying Apple TV subscribers after linking an Apple Account. It provided additional feeds such as onboard cameras, driver tracker, data, and podium feeds.
That was a benefit inside the Apple TV subscription arrangement. It did not mean that F1 TV was a free, standalone U.S. service. Formula 1 explained the arrangement in its F1 TV Premium streaming guide.

Mainland China: Tencent and television broadcasters
For mainland China, Formula 1’s broadcaster information listed:
- Shanghai TV
- Guangdong Television Channel
- Tencent
Formula 1 separately announced that Tencent’s renewed multi-year agreement ran through the end of 2027. Tencent was the exclusive digital-media broadcasting platform for F1 in mainland China, with coverage of every Grand Prix, qualifying, practice, and Sprint session. Distribution included Tencent Video, Tencent Sports, WeChat, Tencent News, QQ.com, and QQ.
Details are in Formula 1’s announcement about its renewed Tencent partnership.
CCTV’s sports site also published a Chinese Grand Prix livestream notice covering Sprint Qualifying, the Sprint, qualifying, and Sunday’s race. CCTV is best described as a documented Chinese-language coverage outlet for the event; access, presentation, and platform conditions can vary, so it should not be presented as an unrestricted stream for every viewer.

United Kingdom and viewers elsewhere
There is no universal global F1 streaming offer. Broadcast rights are sold by territory, and the available service, price, free-to-air status, and trial terms can change.

A U.S. Apple TV trial should not be assumed to work in the U.K. or elsewhere. Likewise, a free-to-air option in one territory does not establish that the same race was free in another.
Recommended Free Tools
What was actually free?
| Option | What it provided | Was the full Chinese GP free? |
|---|---|---|
| Apple TV seven-day trial | Temporary access for eligible U.S. users, subject to the displayed terms | Potentially during the trial, but not permanently free |
| Apple TV free practice | Apple said every practice session was available without a subscription | No; free practice did not automatically include the Sprint, qualifying, or Grand Prix |
| Selected free races on Apple TV | Apple said selected races were available free in the app | Not established for the Chinese GP; its event page showed a trial-and-subscription offer |
| Official highlights | Short-form race coverage and major moments | No; highlights are not a full live race |
| Unauthorized stream sites | Unverified links claiming to show the race | Not a recommended legal option |
Formula 1 published Chinese GP race highlights on its verified YouTube channel and through its official digital ecosystem. Highlights are the clearest free option after the event, but they do not recreate the complete live broadcast.
How to watch the race now: replay checklist
Because the 2026 race has already taken place, use this order when looking for a legitimate replay:
- Check Apple TV. Search for the Chinese Grand Prix or “China: Race” in the Apple TV app. Replay availability may differ from the original live listing.
- Check Formula 1’s official race page. The 2026 China Grand Prix page is the appropriate starting point for official video, highlights, results, and event information.
- Check the official Formula 1 YouTube channel. This is suitable for free highlights, not necessarily the complete race.
- Check the broadcaster for your territory. A local rights-holder may offer an on-demand replay or condensed version.
Do not assume that a live-race subscription automatically includes an archived race forever. Replay windows and catalog access are controlled by the broadcaster and can expire.

Why unofficial “free F1 stream” links are a bad bet
Search results may include pages advertising free F1 streams, but a page claiming to show a race is not proof that it has a broadcasting agreement. Unofficial streams can be illegal, unstable, misleading, or unsafe, and they may disappear during the event.

This guide does not recommend stream-index sites, pirate rebroadcasts, or links that cannot establish an official rights relationship. The safest legal choices are the broadcaster identified for your territory, an official free trial where available, and Formula 1’s own highlights and video pages.
Do not rely on a VPN workaround
A VPN can change the apparent location of an internet connection, but that does not prove that a stream is authorized in the new location or that the broadcaster’s terms permit the arrangement. It also cannot guarantee access, payment acceptance, language options, or replay availability. Use the rights-holder listed for your actual country.

The same approach will prevent most streaming mistakes:
- Start with Formula 1’s official broadcaster directory.
- Verify whether the event is live, replay-only, free-to-air, or subscription-only.
- Distinguish a trial from a permanently free stream.
- Check the renewal date and price before activating a trial.
- Confirm whether practice, Sprint, qualifying, race, and replay rights are separate.
- Use official highlights when you only need a free recap.
Frequently Asked Questions
Was the 2026 Chinese Grand Prix free to watch online?
Not as a permanently free full-race stream based on the documented U.S. listing. Eligible U.S. viewers could use Apple TV’s seven-day free trial, while Apple made all practice sessions and selected races free. The Chinese GP event page itself displayed the trial-and-subscription offer.
Can I still watch the 2026 Chinese GP live?
No. The race took place on March 15, 2026. You can look for an official replay or highlights through Apple TV, Formula 1, or the broadcaster serving your country.
Was F1 TV free in the United States in 2026?
No. F1 TV Premium access was included for qualifying Apple TV subscribers after linking an Apple Account. It was not a free standalone U.S. service.
Where could viewers in mainland China watch the Chinese GP?
Formula 1 listed Shanghai TV, Guangdong Television Channel, and Tencent. Tencent’s digital-media agreement covered every F1 Grand Prix weekend session in mainland China through the end of 2027.
Does an Apple TV free trial work outside the United States?
Do not assume it does. F1 rights and Apple TV offers vary by territory. Check Formula 1’s broadcaster directory and the local broadcaster’s own terms.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: the 2026 Chinese Grand Prix was held on March 15, 2026, so there is no upcoming live race to stream. In the U.S., the legal live route was Apple TV, with a seven-day trial for eligible users rather than a permanently free broadcast. For a replay now, check Apple TV, Formula 1’s official video pages, the verified F1 YouTube channel, and the broadcaster directory for your country. Avoid unauthorized streams and do not treat a VPN as a guaranteed rights workaround.
