Great Wall Motor’s SOUO S2000 is an unusually serious attempt to move China’s motorcycle industry into the heavyweight touring market. Its headline feature is a naturally aspirated 1,999-cc horizontally opposed eight-cylinder engine, but the more important story is the complete package around it: an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, shaft drive, electronically adjustable suspension, extensive rider aids and enough mass to rival some small cars.
The S2000 is already on sale in China, while SOUO is pursuing European approval and planning expansion into Australia, South America and North America. That makes it an important new motorcycle, although “global conquest” remains a description of the company’s ambition rather than a measurement of worldwide sales.
Not a V8: the S2000 uses a flat-eight
The most common shorthand for the S2000 is “China’s V8 motorcycle.” That is technically wrong. The engine is a horizontally opposed eight-cylinder, or boxer-eight, with two overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder.
Displacement is 1,999 cc. The naturally aspirated engine produces an official 113 kW, equivalent to 153.68 PS, at 6,500 rpm, while peak torque is 190 Nm at 4,500 rpm. The frequently quoted 154-hp figure is a rounded conversion of the official PS rating, not a separate factory horsepower claim.

That layout gives the motorcycle a different mechanical identity from Honda’s Gold Wing six-cylinder tourer or a conventional V-twin cruiser. It also creates an obvious packaging challenge: eight cylinders, cooling hardware, intake plumbing and transmission components have to fit into a motorcycle that already carries substantial touring equipment.
Eight-speed DCT and shaft drive
SOUO pairs the flat-eight with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and shaft final drive. This is a significant choice for a motorcycle designed to cover long distances. A DCT removes the need for a conventional clutch lever and manual gear changes, while the shaft drive reduces the routine maintenance associated with a chain.
The transmission also helps explain why the S2000 is not a lightweight sport-tourer. The engine, gearbox, frame, suspension and touring equipment add up to a claimed curb weight of 450 kg for the S2000ST and 461 kg for the S2000GL.
For context, those figures are well beyond the weight of most large touring motorcycles. The S2000 is closer to a two-wheeled luxury vehicle in its engineering priorities: effortless highway travel, passenger comfort, weather protection and electronic convenience take precedence over easy maneuverability at walking pace.

The China-market S2000 range consists of two touring configurations. The distinction is primarily luggage capacity and equipment rather than engine output.
| Model | Luggage | China-market price | Claimed curb weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| S2000ST | Two-box setup | ¥218,800 | 450 kg |
| S2000GL | Three-box setup | ¥238,800 | 461 kg |
Both versions measure 2,660 mm long, 950 mm wide and 1,540 mm high, with a 1,810-mm wheelbase and a 740-mm seat height. The fuel tank holds 26.2 liters. SOUO lists a Chinese-market top speed of 210 km/h, electronically limited, and a WMTC average fuel-consumption figure of 5.9 L/100 km.

That consumption figure would give the S2000 a theoretical range of roughly 440 km before allowing for reserve fuel or real-world riding conditions. Actual range will depend heavily on speed, passenger load, luggage and how often the engine is using its available torque.
A complex chassis for a very heavy motorcycle
The S2000 uses an integrated variable-section aluminum frame. At the front is a three-layer parallel-link suspension system rather than a conventional telescopic fork. The rear suspension uses a centrally mounted shock, and both ends have electronic adjustment.

Parallel-link front suspension can help separate braking forces from suspension movement and provide a stable platform under hard braking. It is also mechanically more elaborate than a normal fork, which matters when considering long-term servicing outside China. Buyers will want to know how easily specialist technicians can diagnose and repair the system once the motorcycle reaches new markets.
The bike’s equipment list is extensive. Depending on configuration and market specification, it includes:
- Cornering and straight-line ABS
- Traction control
- Electronic parking brake
- Cruise control
- Blind-spot monitoring
- Rear parking sensors
- Heated seats and heated grips
- Electrically adjustable windscreen
- Electronically adjustable suspension
A parking brake and rear sensors are particularly relevant on a machine weighing more than 450 kg. They do not make the S2000 small or nimble, but they address the low-speed and parking challenges created by its size.
Car-style electronics
The cockpit is built around a 12.3-inch instrument display, backed by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155-based vehicle electronics. The system supports over-the-air updates, voice interaction, remote-control functions and an e-call function.

This is familiar technology in modern cars but still relatively unusual in motorcycles. The advantage is a more connected ownership experience, with software updates potentially improving functions without a workshop visit. The risk is equally familiar: as the electronic architecture grows more sophisticated, troubleshooting may require manufacturer-specific diagnostic tools rather than conventional motorcycle expertise.
For a new brand entering markets outside China, software support, parts availability and dealer training could prove just as important as the engine’s cylinder count.
Testing claims and production reality
Great Wall says the S2000 completed 50,000 km of road testing, high-altitude testing up to 5,300 meters, cold-weather testing down to −25°C and 720 hours of salt-spray corrosion testing. These are manufacturer-reported test figures, not independent test results, but they indicate the conditions SOUO says it considered during development.
The motorcycle entered the Chinese market in October 2024. Early reports described an initial allocation of only 200 motorcycles, leading to the widely repeated claim that just 200 would ever be built. That is no longer an accurate description of the model’s production status. Great Wall’s 2025 annual disclosure reported that more than 500 SOUO touring motorcycles had been delivered during that year.
Great Wall also said those deliveries represented more than 25% of China’s premium heavyweight-motorcycle segment, although that market-share statement is the company’s own filing and should be treated accordingly.
Is the S2000 coming to Europe, Australia or America?
SOUO displayed its motorcycles at CES 2026 in Las Vegas, including the S2000CL cruiser. On March 10, 2026, the company announced that it had obtained EU whole-vehicle type approval.

EU approval is a meaningful regulatory milestone. It allows an approved vehicle type to be marketed across the European Union without every member state repeating the entire vehicle-approval process. It does not, by itself, confirm that the S2000 is already available through dealers in every EU country. Local distribution, pricing, registration, parts supply and customer deliveries still have to be established.
Great Wall representatives have described a rollout plan covering Europe and Australia in 2026, South America afterward and North America in 2027. Great Wall’s own CES report said South American market and channel research was planned to begin in August 2026.

1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsAs of August 9, 2026, the verified position is therefore more limited than some headlines suggest:
- The S2000 is in Chinese production and has recorded more than 500 touring-bike deliveries during 2025.
- SOUO has announced EU whole-vehicle type approval.
- The company has public plans for expansion beyond China.
- There is no verified evidence of a completed U.S. retail launch, American dealer network or final North American price.
The S2000CL cruiser
SOUO has already expanded the platform beyond the touring S2000. The S2000CL cruiser launched in China on October 26, 2025, at listed prices of ¥189,800 for the Knight Edition and ¥218,800 for the Collector’s Edition.
It retains the 1,999-cc flat-eight and eight-speed DCT but lowers the seat height to 690 mm. Official curb weights range from 404 to 427 kg, depending on specification. That lower seat should make the cruiser more accessible to shorter riders, although its weight remains substantial when maneuvering without engine assistance.
Cycle World has described the S2000CL as the world’s first eight-cylinder production cruiser. That is best treated as an attributed description rather than an independently audited industry record. The more defensible claim is that SOUO offers a production cruiser powered by a flat-eight motorcycle engine.

What could determine its success
The S2000’s engine gives SOUO instant attention, but novelty alone will not establish a global motorcycle brand. The decisive questions will be practical:
- Can SOUO build a reliable international dealer and service network?
- Will replacement parts and electronic diagnostic support be available outside China?
- How will the 450-kg-plus touring models be priced against established luxury tourers?
- Can the company certify the motorcycle for each target market’s noise, emissions and safety requirements?
- Will riders accept a new brand for a complicated, high-value motorcycle?
The S2000 is not merely a publicity exercise. It has entered production, accumulated meaningful Chinese-market deliveries and progressed toward international approval. But its global importance will be determined by ownership support and market execution, not simply by the number of cylinders.
FAQ
Is the SOUO S2000 a V8 motorcycle?
No. The S2000 uses a naturally aspirated 1,999-cc horizontally opposed eight-cylinder, or flat-eight, engine. Calling it a V8 is inaccurate.
How powerful is the SOUO S2000?
The official touring specification lists 113 kW, or 153.68 PS, at 6,500 rpm and 190 Nm at 4,500 rpm. The often-used 154-hp figure is a rounded conversion.
How much does the SOUO S2000 weigh?
The claimed curb weight is 450 kg for the two-box S2000ST and 461 kg for the three-box S2000GL.
Can Americans buy the SOUO S2000 now?
There is no verified U.S. retail launch or final American price as of August 9, 2026. Great Wall representatives have said North American expansion is planned for 2027, but that remains a rollout target rather than confirmed availability.
The Bottom Line
The SOUO S2000 is a genuine production heavyweight tourer with a rare 1,999-cc flat-eight, not a V8, and it is more than an engineering curiosity. Its eight-speed DCT, shaft drive, advanced suspension and car-like electronics give it a credible luxury-touring brief. China-market production and EU approval show that SOUO is moving beyond a one-off concept, but a worldwide dealer network and North American sales have not yet been established.
