A 21-year-old man died after a car struck a tree on Liberton Road near Stone Street in Chidlow at about 4:20am on Saturday, 21 December 2024. Two other young men were taken to Royal Perth Hospital. Major crash detectives were investigating, but the available reports do not establish what caused the crash or the investigation’s eventual outcome.
What happened in the Chidlow crash
PerthNow reported that a black 2005 Ford Falcon sedan collided with a tree on Liberton Road near Stone Street at about 4:20am on 21 December 2024. The 21-year-old passenger died.
The 18-year-old driver and a 19-year-old passenger were taken to Royal Perth Hospital. PerthNow reported that evening that the driver was stable and the 19-year-old passenger was in serious but stable condition. The Echo Newspaper’s 10 January 2025 account, which reproduced initial police details, said fire crew extracted the 19-year-old passenger before he was taken to hospital.
What was known about the investigation
PerthNow reported on 21 December 2024 that major crash detectives were investigating the circumstances. The reports available do not identify a cause, assign fault or state whether any charges or other legal outcomes followed.

What the December 2024 appeal asked for
The PerthNow report asked anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online. It said dash-cam or mobile-phone footage could be uploaded directly to investigators. That was the appeal information published with the December 2024 report; the sources available do not confirm whether the appeal remains active.
What the road-toll comparison means
PerthNow described Western Australia as recording its “worst annual road toll since 2016” when it published its report on 21 December 2024. The report material available here gives no annual toll count, so the comparison should be understood as a description made at that time, not a current statistic.
