The 2026 Chevrolet Trax is the better value if your priorities are the lowest advertised price and the most published cargo room. The 2026 Buick Envista costs more, but its three-trim lineup culminates in an Avenir model with more upscale comfort and convenience equipment. Both use a 137-horsepower turbocharged three-cylinder, return the same published 28 mpg city/32 highway/30 combined estimate, and are front-wheel drive only. The right choice depends less on fuel economy than on price, trim content, cargo fit, and whether the available safety-test evidence meets your expectations.
The prices below are manufacturer-advertised starting MSRPs for the U.S. market, not transaction prices. Destination charges, taxes, dealer fees, options, incentives, inventory, and local pricing can change the final comparison.

Chevy Trax vs. Buick Envista at a glance
| Category | 2026 Chevrolet Trax | 2026 Buick Envista | What it means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Advertised starting MSRP | $21,700 | $24,700 | Trax starts $3,000 lower before destination, fees, taxes, options, and incentives. |
| Trim count | Five trims | Three trims | Trax offers more price steps; Envista concentrates its range into Preferred, Sport Touring, and Avenir. |
| Engine | 1.2L turbocharged three-cylinder | 1.2L turbocharged three-cylinder | Both are rated at 137 hp and 162 lb-ft of torque. |
| Published fuel-economy estimate | 28 mpg city, 32 highway, 30 combined | 28 mpg city, 32 highway, 30 combined | The published 2026 estimate is effectively a tie; driving conditions determine actual consumption. |
| Drivetrain | Front-wheel drive only | Front-wheel drive only | Neither offers all-wheel drive. |
| Manufacturer-stated towing | Not rated to tow | No towing capability offered | Choose another vehicle if you need factory trailering capability. |
| Maximum published cargo volume | 54 cu. ft. | 42 cu. ft. with rear seats folded | Trax has the larger stated maximum, although the pages do not establish identical measurement methods. |
| Infotainment and phone integration | 11-inch center HD touchscreen; wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto listed as standard | 11-inch touchscreen; wireless phone projection | Both provide a large central display; verify exact equipment on the vehicle you are buying. |
| Driver-assistance presentation | Chevy Safety Assist, identified as six standard features | Buick Driver Confidence, identified as a six-feature package on the model page | Feature names and availability can vary by trim. |
On the evidence available for these 2026 models, Trax is the stronger starting point for a budget-conscious buyer who needs maximum published cargo capacity. Envista is the more appealing alternative when the buyer is willing to pay for its styling and higher-trim features, especially the Avenir’s heated seating, heated steering wheel, and power liftgate.

Trax: the lower advertised entry point
Chevrolet lists the 2026 Trax from $21,700 and offers five trims. The published starting figure establishes the lowest national advertised entry point in this comparison, but it is not an out-the-door quote. A vehicle at a nearby dealer can cost more or less after destination charges, installed options, regional supply, dealer fees, taxes, and incentives.

Chevrolet’s page does not provide a complete like-for-like price ladder for all five trims in the information used here. That means the $21,700 figure is most useful as a starting benchmark, not as proof that every Trax is cheaper than every Envista. A well-equipped upper-trim Trax can overlap an Envista Sport Touring or even approach an Avenir transaction price.
Envista: three clearly positioned trims
Buick’s current U.S. 2026 model page lists three Envista trims and their advertised starting prices:
| Envista trim | Advertised starting MSRP | Difference from Envista Preferred |
|---|---|---|
| Preferred | $24,700 | — |
| Sport Touring | $26,500 | $1,800 |
| Avenir | $29,500 | $4,800 |
These figures make the entry-level gap straightforward: Envista Preferred starts $3,000 above the advertised Trax starting price. Sport Touring begins $4,800 above Trax’s advertised entry point, and Avenir begins $7,800 higher. Those are MSRP comparisons only; they do not account for different standard equipment, destination, options, or negotiated prices.
Why Buick prices can appear inconsistent online
A separate Buick build-and-price search result showed higher figures of $26,495 for Preferred, $27,995 for Sport Touring, and $31,295 for Avenir. Because the current main model page presents the lower advertised prices used in this article, use that page as the national starting-price reference and obtain a current vehicle-specific quote before deciding. The discrepancy is a warning to check the exact configuration, destination charge, and date shown by the seller rather than assuming every Buick page displays the same total.
How to compare equivalent deals
- Pick the actual trim first. A base Trax and an Avenir are not competing on the same equipment level.
- Record the window-sticker MSRP and destination charge. Do not compare an advertised base price with a configured vehicle total.
- Subtract only documented incentives. Confirm eligibility, expiration date, and whether an incentive requires financing or a trade-in.
- Request an itemized out-the-door quote. Include dealer fees, taxes, registration, accessories, and add-ons.
- Compare equipment, not badges. If the Envista’s heated seats or power liftgate matter to you, price a Trax with equivalent features rather than comparing only entry MSRPs.
Powertrain, acceleration expectations, and fuel economy
Identical published output
Both crossovers use a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder rated at 137 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque. The matching output means neither has a published power advantage in this comparison. Expect the engine choice, transmission calibration, vehicle load, road grade, and tire specification to influence how each feels in everyday driving more than the badge on the hood.

The available information does not establish an independent back-to-back acceleration test, braking test, or real-world performance result for the two 2026 models. Do not treat the shared horsepower figure as proof that they will feel identical from the driver’s seat; schedule separate test drives if throttle response, noise, or passing confidence is important to you.
Matched EPA fuel-economy estimate
The 2026 Fuel Economy Guide listing surfaced for both vehicles shows 28 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 30 mpg combined. Chevrolet also calls out 30 mpg combined on its model page, while Buick’s model page gives the 28/32 city/highway figures. These are estimates, not a promise of what every owner will achieve. Cold weather, short trips, traffic, speed, hills, passengers, cargo, tire pressure, and driving style can move actual fuel use substantially.
Because the published estimates match, fuel economy should not be the deciding factor between Trax and Envista unless your own test drives or driving pattern reveal a meaningful difference. For a fair ownership calculation, use the same annual mileage and local fuel price for both vehicles and treat the official figure as a planning baseline.
Drivetrain and towing: a clear limitation
Both vehicles are front-wheel drive only. Neither manufacturer offers an all-wheel-drive version in the information reviewed. Front-wheel drive is adequate for many paved-road commuters and can reduce complexity and weight, but it does not provide the same traction strategy as an AWD system on loose surfaces, steep unplowed roads, or muddy access roads.
Chevrolet says the Trax is not rated to tow. Buick says the Envista does not offer towing capability. Do not install a hitch and assume a trailer rating exists; a hitch may be useful for certain accessory carriers only when the vehicle maker and the hitch manufacturer permit that use. If you regularly tow a small boat, utility trailer, or camper, start with a model that publishes an appropriate tow rating and required equipment.

Cargo space and everyday practicality
Trax has the larger published maximum
Chevrolet lists up to 54 cubic feet of maximum cargo space for Trax with its rear seat folded. The rear bench uses a 60/40 split-folding design, so you can carry a longer item on one side while retaining a rear seating position on the other.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Envista’s published figure is smaller
Buick’s Envista FAQ lists up to 42 cubic feet with the rear seats folded flat. On the published maximums, Trax has a 12-cubic-foot advantage. That is a meaningful difference for bulky strollers, flat-pack furniture, camping equipment, or a large dog crate.
Do not interpret the numbers as a standardized packing test. The source pages do not establish that Chevrolet and Buick measured cargo to the same roofline, seat position, or loading boundary. A vehicle with a larger headline capacity can still be less convenient for a particular object if its opening, floor length, wheel-well shape, or lift-over height is unfavorable.
Test the cargo you actually carry
- Bring the stroller, folding bike, pet carrier, suitcase, wheelchair, or work equipment you use most.
- Measure the item’s length, width, and height before visiting the dealer.
- Fold the rear seats and check whether the floor is flat enough for your load.
- Open and close the liftgate with the item inside, leaving room for the driver’s seat and visibility.
- Try the 60/40 split on Trax if you often carry passengers and long objects together.
If your cargo is soft and stackable, the Trax’s larger stated maximum is a strong advantage. If you mainly carry a few grocery bags or compact luggage, the difference may matter less than seat comfort and the price of the specific vehicle.
Cabin technology, comfort, and trim character
What Trax includes
Chevrolet lists an 11-inch center HD touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay, and wireless Android Auto as standard equipment. It also lists Chevy Safety Assist as standard and identifies six driver-assistance features in that suite. Wireless phone integration can reduce cable clutter, but confirm that the exact phone, operating-system version, and vehicle software support the functions you use.

Trax’s five-trim structure gives shoppers more steps between the entry model and the top of the range. That can help a buyer add selected comfort or appearance equipment without immediately moving to the price of a luxury-oriented trim, although the exact contents of each trim must be checked on the vehicle’s window label.
What Envista emphasizes
Buick highlights an 11-inch touchscreen, an 8-inch driver information center, wireless phone projection, and Buick Driver Confidence, described on the model page as a six-feature package on the Preferred. The three-trim lineup gives the Envista a simpler progression: Preferred, Sport Touring, and Avenir.
The Avenir is the Envista’s feature-led choice. Buick lists perforated leather-appointed heated front seats, a heated flat-bottom steering wheel, 19-inch wheels, and a power liftgate for that trim. Those features can explain part of the higher MSRP for a buyer who values cold-weather comfort, easier loading, or a more distinctive cabin and exterior presentation. They do not make the Avenir automatically better for every driver: larger wheels can affect ride feel and tire replacement cost, and a power liftgate is useful only if it fits your loading habits.
How to compare equipment fairly
| Feature question | Trax information | Envista information | Buyer check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Large central screen | 11-inch center HD touchscreen | 11-inch touchscreen | Operate both screens and check glare, menu speed, and camera visibility. |
| Wireless phone connection | Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto listed as standard | Wireless phone projection highlighted | Pair your own phone during the test drive. |
| Driver information display | Not specified in the supplied model details | 8-inch driver information center highlighted | Verify the Trax display on the exact trim being considered. |
| Heated front seats and steering wheel | Not established for the compared Trax trims | Listed on Avenir | Check whether a Trax package or trim offers equivalent equipment. |
| Power liftgate | Not established in the compared Trax information | Listed on Avenir | Confirm standard versus optional status on the window sticker. |
Safety evidence: useful results, but not a complete tie
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s 2026 Trax page reports the following results for the tests and equipment it evaluates:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
| IIHS evaluation | Reported 2026 Trax result |
|---|---|
| Small-overlap front crashworthiness | Good |
| Updated moderate-overlap front crashworthiness | Poor |
| Updated side crashworthiness | Good |
| Headlights | Marginal |
| Vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention | Poor |
| Pedestrian front crash prevention | Marginal |
IIHS says the updated side-test result comes from a 2026 Trax test and also applies to the Envista. The same page explicitly says the updated moderate-overlap result does not apply to the Envista. Therefore, it is inaccurate to copy every Trax rating into an Envista comparison or to claim that the two vehicles have identical crashworthiness evidence.

These ratings assess defined laboratory tests and specific driver-assistance evaluations; they are not a guarantee of injury outcome in every crash and do not replace attentive driving. Chevrolet’s safety information tells drivers to remain attentive to traffic, surroundings, and road conditions at all times. Check the current model-specific IIHS pages and the vehicle’s exact safety equipment before purchase, especially if a particular crash-prevention feature is important to you.
Which one is better for the money?
Choose Trax when these priorities dominate
- You want the lowest advertised starting MSRP in this comparison.
- You are likely to use the vehicle for bulky cargo and value the 54-cu.-ft. published maximum.
- You want wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto listed as standard without moving to a high trim.
- You prefer a five-trim lineup that may provide more intermediate pricing choices.
- You do not need AWD or a factory tow rating.
Choose Envista when these priorities dominate
- You prefer Buick’s styling and a more premium-oriented trim presentation.
- You are willing to spend more for the Avenir’s listed heated front seats, heated steering wheel, 19-inch wheels, and power liftgate.
- Your cargo needs fit comfortably within the 42-cu.-ft. published maximum.
- You value the 8-inch driver information center highlighted on the Buick page.
- You are comfortable verifying current prices because Buick’s online pages can show different configured amounts.
Choose neither when you need AWD or towing
The shared front-drive-only layout and lack of a manufacturer-stated tow capability are decisive exclusions for some buyers. Shopping another small SUV with the required drivetrain or trailering rating will be more productive than trying to equip either Trax or Envista beyond its published capability.
A practical test-drive and purchase checklist
- Confirm the model year and trim. Make sure the vehicle is a 2026 model and that the advertised equipment matches the trim name on the window label.
- Get the full price in writing. Ask for MSRP, destination, dealer fees, accessories, taxes, registration, incentives, and financing conditions in separate lines.
- Pair your phone. Test wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, or wireless projection with your own device rather than relying on a salesperson’s demonstration phone.
- Evaluate the driver display and controls. Check readability in sunlight, steering-wheel reach, seat adjustment, mirror visibility, and ease of changing climate or audio settings.
- Load your normal cargo. Use the stroller, luggage, pet carrier, or equipment you carry most often; published cubic-foot numbers cannot answer every fit question.
- Drive the same route in both. Include city streets, a highway merge, a hill, tight parking, and rough pavement so you can compare engine response, visibility, ride, and noise under similar conditions.
- Review safety applicability. Read the current IIHS entry for the exact vehicle and understand which tests apply to Trax, Envista, or both.
- Recheck availability before signing. Prices, incentives, dealer-installed options, and inventory can change, so confirm the final vehicle identification number and equipment list.
Bottom line
The 2026 Chevrolet Trax wins the straightforward value comparison: it starts at $21,700 versus $24,700 for the Envista, offers five trims, and lists 54 cubic feet of maximum cargo space versus the Envista’s 42. The two are otherwise closely matched on the published fundamentals that matter most to commuters—137 hp, 162 lb-ft, front-wheel drive, and a 28/32/30 mpg estimate.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
The 2026 Buick Envista earns consideration for a different reason. Its Avenir trim packages heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, 19-inch wheels, and a power liftgate into a more upscale presentation. If those features, the design, and the way the cabin feels to you justify the additional price, Envista can be the better personal choice. Compare the exact trims, physically test your cargo, verify the current dealer quote, and do not assume the Trax and Envista share every safety rating simply because their powertrains are closely related.
