The 2026 Chevrolet Equinox makes the stronger entry-price and standard-comfort-feature case in Chevrolet’s published LT-versus-LE comparison. The 2026 Toyota RAV4 makes the stronger fuel-economy and cargo-capacity case in the available specifications and secondary comparison. Neither is the universal winner: the right choice depends on the exact trim, drivetrain, local transaction price, and the features you actually use.
Chevrolet lists an Equinox LT starting price of $30,795 and a RAV4 LE price of $33,500 on its comparison page. Toyota’s own specifications page lists a different RAV4 grade, the SE FWD, at a $34,700 base MSRP and estimates 47 city/40 highway/43 combined mpg. Those figures are not an apples-to-apples quote, so use them as a starting framework rather than a dealer-ready price.

At a glance: which SUV fits which priority?
| Priority | Evidence-based lean | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Lowest published entry price | Equinox | Chevrolet’s comparison lists the 2026 Equinox LT at $30,795 versus $33,500 for the 2026 RAV4 LE. |
| Fuel economy | RAV4 | Toyota lists 47/40/43 mpg city/highway/combined for the RAV4 SE FWD; Equinox figures are materially lower in the published comparisons. |
| Maximum cargo volume | RAV4 | Autoblog reports 70.4 cubic feet for the RAV4 versus 63.5 for Equinox, although configurations and measurement methods matter. |
| Standard heated comfort equipment in the cited entry-trim matchup | Equinox LT | Chevrolet says heated front seats, heated exterior mirrors, and a heated steering wheel are standard on LT and unavailable on RAV4 LE. |
| Conventional gasoline powertrain | Equinox | Equinox uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine; Autoblog reports that the 2026 RAV4 lineup is hybrid-only. |
| Hybrid powertrain | RAV4 | The 2026 RAV4’s reported lineup uses hybrid powertrains, with output varying by front- or all-wheel drive. |
These are directional answers, not blanket trim rankings. A highly equipped Equinox can cost more than a lightly equipped RAV4, and a RAV4 with all-wheel drive will not share the SE FWD’s fuel-economy rating.

Price: compare the named trim and the price basis
The most visible price comparison comes from Chevrolet’s 2026 Equinox-versus-RAV4 page. It names the Equinox LT at $30,795 and the RAV4 LE at $33,500. Toyota’s separate 2026 specifications page names the RAV4 SE FWD at $34,700 base MSRP. Because the Toyota figure is for an SE rather than an LE, it should not be substituted for the LE price or described as Toyota’s universal starting price.

|---|---|---|
| 2026 Chevrolet Equinox LT | $30,795 | Chevrolet’s comparison page; confirm whether destination, options, taxes, and regional fees are included in the displayed figure. |
| 2026 Toyota RAV4 LE | $33,500 | Chevrolet’s comparison page; it is a manufacturer-authored competitive comparison, not a dealer quote. |
| 2026 Toyota RAV4 SE FWD | $34,700 base MSRP | Toyota’s specifications page; Toyota says information can change and applies to mainland U.S. vehicles. |
What the published numbers do—and do not—tell you
- They establish a visible price difference between the specifically named grades, not a universal difference between every Equinox and every RAV4.
- They do not establish an out-the-door price. Destination charges, documentation fees, taxes, registration, accessories, dealer-installed equipment, incentives, and financing can change the amount you pay.
- Equipment is part of value. A lower sticker price can lose its advantage if the comparable vehicle requires packages for the comfort, connectivity, or winter features you need.
- Inventory varies by region. Ask dealers for a window sticker or build sheet for the exact vehicle rather than relying on a model-level web summary.
A reliable way to get a real purchase comparison
- Choose the exact grade and drivetrain for each SUV—for example, Equinox LT FWD versus RAV4 LE FWD.
- Request a written price that includes destination and every dealer-installed item.
- List standard and optional equipment line by line, especially all-wheel drive, heated features, driver-assistance packages, and wheel or roof options.
- Compare the two out-the-door totals using the same tax, registration, and financing assumptions.
- Check the quote against current local inventory because manufacturer pages and dealer availability change.
Fuel economy and powertrains
The RAV4 has the clearest efficiency advantage in the available data, but the ratings must be attached to their drivetrain and source. Toyota lists the 2026 RAV4 SE FWD at an estimated 47 mpg city, 40 mpg highway, and 43 mpg combined. That is a front-wheel-drive SE specification, not a rating that should automatically be applied to every RAV4.
Chevrolet’s 2026 fuel-economy page lists the Equinox at 22 mpg city and 29 mpg highway. It does not provide a matching combined figure in the cited material. Autoblog’s comparison reports 26 city/29 highway/27 combined mpg for a front-wheel-drive Equinox. Since those published figures are presented through different pages and rating contexts, verify the EPA label for the precise Equinox vehicle you are considering.
| Model and configuration | City | Highway | Combined | How to read it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2026 RAV4 SE FWD | 47 mpg | 40 mpg | 43 mpg | Toyota estimate for the named SE front-wheel-drive grade. |
| 2026 Equinox | 22 mpg | 29 mpg | Not stated by Chevrolet’s cited fuel-economy page | Chevrolet’s published city/highway figures; confirm the exact drivetrain label. |
| 2026 Equinox FWD | 26 mpg | 29 mpg | 27 mpg | Autoblog secondary comparison; use as a comparison reference, not a substitute for the vehicle’s window sticker. |
What the efficiency gap means in practice
A high-mileage driver will usually give the RAV4’s hybrid system more opportunity to offset its higher purchase price through lower fuel use. Your actual result depends on annual miles, traffic, weather, payload, speed, fuel prices, and whether you choose FWD or AWD. To estimate your own operating difference, divide annual miles by each vehicle’s combined-mpg rating, then multiply by the fuel price you normally pay. Use ratings for matching configurations and treat the result as an estimate, not a guarantee.

Engine and hybrid-system distinction
Chevrolet describes the Equinox with a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine producing 175 horsepower. All-wheel drive is available, and Chevrolet lists towing capacity of up to 1,500 pounds. The Equinox therefore fits shoppers who prefer a conventional gasoline powertrain or who want a clearly stated light-towing rating from the manufacturer.
Autoblog reports that the 2026 RAV4 is hybrid-only, with 226 horsepower in front-wheel-drive form and 236 horsepower with all-wheel drive. Those output figures are secondary-source data; confirm the exact grade’s specification and towing rating in Toyota’s current materials before buying or towing. Horsepower alone does not predict acceleration, refinement, or fuel cost, so drive both vehicles with the passenger and cargo load you expect to carry.
Cargo and passenger space
The available direct cargo comparison favors the RAV4. Autoblog reports 29.8 cubic feet behind the second row and 63.5 cubic feet with the rear seats folded for Equinox, versus 37.8 and 70.4 cubic feet for RAV4. Chevrolet’s own Equinox product material confirms the 63.5-cubic-foot maximum figure. The paired behind-the-seat and maximum figures come from secondary reporting, so treat them as a useful shopping guide and check the exact vehicle in person.

|---|---|---|---|
| Behind second row | 29.8 cu. ft. | 37.8 cu. ft. | Autoblog comparison; measurement can vary with configuration and method. |
| Maximum with rear seats folded | 63.5 cu. ft. | 70.4 cu. ft. | Autoblog comparison; Chevrolet independently confirms the Equinox maximum figure. |
Turn the cargo numbers into a useful test
- Bring the largest item you regularly carry, such as a stroller, instrument case, cooler, pet crate, or work equipment.
- Measure its length, width, and height, including handles and wheels.
- Open the liftgate and test it behind the second row, not only with the seats folded.
- Check the lift-over height, floor shape, seat-fold operation, and visibility to the rear.
- If you carry passengers and cargo together, leave the second row upright and test that arrangement.
Published headroom and legroom figures can change with roof equipment, seat design, and seating configuration. Do not treat an isolated dimension from a comparison table as a universal interior measurement. Sit in both rows, adjust the driver’s seat for the tallest regular occupant, and check child-seat access if that is part of your routine.

For the specific LT-versus-LE matchup, Chevrolet says the Equinox LT includes heated front seats, heated exterior mirrors, and a heated steering wheel as standard equipment. Chevrolet’s page says those features are not available on the RAV4 LE in that comparison. This is a claim about the named entry trims and the equipment Chevrolet selected; availability can change by RAV4 grade, package, model year, or region.
The same Chevrolet comparison lists an 11.3-inch standard Equinox infotainment screen and a 10.5-inch RAV4 screen. Screen size does not by itself establish usability, brightness, response time, phone integration, or audio quality. Operate the system in person and verify whether wireless smartphone connectivity, wireless charging, navigation, and camera views are standard or packaged on the exact stock number.

| Heated front seats | Standard | Listed as unavailable | Chevrolet-authored LT-versus-LE comparison. |

In a cold climate, the Equinox’s cited standard heated equipment can matter more than a larger screen. In a hot climate or for a buyer focused on fuel cost and cargo, those features may not justify changing the preferred powertrain or vehicle size. Decide which equipment is a daily requirement before comparing packages.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.All-wheel drive, towing, and configuration choices
Equinox offers available all-wheel drive and a manufacturer-stated maximum tow rating of 1,500 pounds. The rating applies to the properly equipped vehicle and does not mean every Equinox can tow that amount. Confirm the vehicle’s hitch, cooling equipment, payload, tongue-weight limit, and trailer-brake requirements before towing.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe published RAV4 fuel figure in this comparison is for FWD. Choosing AWD changes the powertrain specification and can change fuel economy, price, output, and availability. Toyota’s exact grade-level towing information should be checked separately for the model you plan to purchase; the available material does not establish one universal 2026 RAV4 tow rating for every trim.

Choose the drivetrain before comparing prices
- Mostly paved commuting and maximum efficiency: Start with FWD versions, then compare the same trim level and equipment.
- Snow, mud, steep driveways, or unpaved access: Compare AWD versions directly and account for their price and economy changes.
- Small trailer or recreational equipment: Verify the complete tow rating and payload for the exact vehicle, not just the model name.
- Frequent long-distance driving: Give the RAV4’s hybrid efficiency significant weight, while still checking seating comfort and cargo fit.
Safety and driver-assistance equipment
The cited Chevrolet page highlights selected available driver-assistance and camera features, but the available material does not provide an independent, trim-matched crash-test or safety-system comparison. It would be misleading to declare one vehicle safer from the screen, heated-seat, or feature lists alone.
Before signing, ask the dealer to identify the exact safety equipment on the vehicle identification number you are buying. Confirm adaptive cruise control, lane-centering or lane-keeping functions, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, parking sensors, camera views, and automatic emergency braking by trim and package. Read the owner’s manual or feature guide for operating limits, especially in snow, heavy rain, poor lane markings, or when towing.
Who should choose the Equinox?
Choose Equinox when entry equipment and a gasoline engine matter most
- You are comparing the Chevrolet LT with the RAV4 LE and the lower published LT price is important to your budget.
- Heated front seats, heated mirrors, and a heated steering wheel are requirements, and you want them included in the cited LT configuration.
- You prefer a conventional 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine instead of a hybrid-only lineup.
- You need the manufacturer-stated option of up to 1,500 pounds of towing and will verify the rating for the exact equipment.
- Your annual mileage is modest enough that the RAV4’s fuel advantage would take a long time to offset its purchase-price difference.
Who should choose the RAV4?
Choose RAV4 when efficiency, cargo, and hybrid power are priorities
- You drive enough miles for the published 47/40/43 mpg rating of the SE FWD to have a meaningful operating-cost effect.
- You regularly use the rear cargo area and the reported 37.8-cubic-foot behind-row or 70.4-cubic-foot maximum capacity better fits your gear.
- You want a hybrid-only 2026 lineup and are comfortable verifying the output, AWD choice, and equipment for your selected grade.
- You are willing to compare the RAV4’s exact price and standard features rather than assuming the LE or SE web figure applies to every vehicle.
A buyer’s checklist before placing a deposit
- Match the trims: Compare LT with LE, or move both vehicles to similarly equipped grades. Do not mix an Equinox LT with a RAV4 SE price and call it a starting-price comparison.
- Match the drivetrain: Compare FWD with FWD or AWD with AWD. Record the exact fuel-economy rating shown on each window sticker.
- Get destination-included numbers: Request itemized out-the-door quotes from local dealers and ask which fees or accessories are mandatory.
- Verify daily-use features: Test heated equipment, screen visibility, phone pairing, camera views, seat adjustment, and second-row access.
- Measure your cargo: Bring your own bulky item and test it behind the second row.
- Check towing and payload: Use the exact vehicle’s label and owner information if a trailer, roof box, or heavy passenger load is involved.
- Review safety equipment: Have the salesperson identify each driver-assistance feature by trim and package instead of relying on a generic model page.
- Recheck availability: Manufacturer information and dealer inventory can change, so confirm the build date, included equipment, and final price immediately before purchase.
Bottom line for the 2026 Equinox-versus-RAV4 decision
The Equinox is the more convincing choice when you value the lower published LT price, the standard heated comfort equipment Chevrolet lists for LT, and a conventional gasoline powertrain with available AWD and up to 1,500 pounds of stated towing. The RAV4 is the more convincing choice when fuel economy and cargo capacity dominate the decision: Toyota’s SE FWD estimate is 47/40/43 mpg, and the available cargo comparison gives the RAV4 more room both behind the second row and with the seats folded.
Make the final decision with two matched, locally priced vehicles. Confirm destination-inclusive cost, exact drivetrain, standard equipment, safety systems, cargo fit, and the current rating for the stock number you would actually buy.
