The C8 Corvette has surpassed the C7 in cumulative model-year production and ranks fifth among the eight generations in the latest available tally. Corvette Blogger’s six-model-year comparison put the C8 at 194,969 units and the C7 at 189,507—a C8 lead of 5,462. A newer, unofficial tally lists 220,153 C8s through model year 2026.
Did the C8 outsell the C7?
In the reported cumulative production totals, yes: the C8 passed the C7. Corvette Blogger reported 194,969 C8 units after six model years, compared with 189,507 C7 units, a difference of 5,462. Those figures describe generation totals on a model-year basis; they should not be read as a comparison of calendar-year retail sales.
Production totals are not the same as calendar-year sales
The distinction matters because the headline shorthand “sales” can refer to a different measurement. The EPA describes its model-year volumes as production delivered for sale in the United States. Those figures may differ from publicized calendar-year sales totals, which use a different time basis. The generation ranking below follows the model-year production totals compiled by VetteFacts, not a combined series of calendar-year sales.
Where the C8 ranks among Corvette generations
VetteFacts’ generation table lists the C8 fifth among eight generations, with 220,153 units through model year 2026. The site labels that C8 total unofficial. The comparison makes clear that the C8 has moved ahead of the C6, while the C5 and C3 remain higher in the listed totals.

Why generation totals need context
Generations ran for different lengths of time
A generation that remains in production for more model years has more time to accumulate units. The C7 covered model years 2014–2019, while the C8 began with model year 2020 and continues through the years listed in the current compiled table. A cumulative ranking is useful, but it does not by itself compare annual production rates or demand.

The C8’s early production faced disruptions
Corvette Blogger points to the Bowling Green plant retooling, COVID-related production issues, and parts shortages as context for the C8’s ramp-up. It also notes that the C8 Z06 arrived later in the generation’s lifecycle than the Z06 had for the C6 and C7. These are reported explanations, not quantified estimates of how many units any factor added or removed.

The National Corvette Museum reported 25,835 C8 units for model year 2025. That is a single model-year figure, not the generation’s cumulative total. Corvette Blogger reported 53,785 C8s produced in 2023 and compared that with 53,807 Corvettes in 1979. The displayed counts differ by 22 units.
